Enter the Luon Highway at some point in your game (after the "monster coral" event). In order to begin the event to get Trent, head to see Gaeus(you can chose to take the Boink again at the entrance of the highway).

Once on the Gaeus screen, approach him and choose "Yes". After your converstion with him, he will tell you to return home. Once there, take the lower left path and you will begin a fight with four Lullabuds. After defeating them, Trent will appear and you can now grow produce for your pets. You can give trent a variety of seed combinations to produce many different kinds of produce, just play around with it to see what you get.
