Lamps aren't necessary, but they add some lighting to your Sims' shelters, and they make your Sims' shelters look more homely, adding to the Room score. You need the Logic Skill in order to craft lamps. You also need to craft glass at the temple forge for the higher-quality lamps.
Shack Floor Lamp[edit]
Moonlight might be nice for romantic strolls on the beach, but it won't brighten your hut's interior. Better build a lamp.
