Games are classified both by system and game genre. A single game may be in one or more system or game genre categories.
Genre categories

- Action - GTA, third person shooters, etc.
- Adventure - Zelda, etc.
- Fighting - Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Tekken, etc.
- FPS - first person shooter: Halo, Unreal, Quake, etc.
- MMOG - massively multiplayer online game: Everquest, World of Warcraft, etc.
- Music - Dance Dance Revolution, Guitar Hero, Rez, etc.
- Puzzle - Tetris, etc.
- Racing - Mario Kart, Gran Turismo, etc.
- RPG - Final Fantasy, etc.
- RTS - real time strategy games: Starcraft, etc.
- Simulation - Animal Crossing, The Sims, etc.
- Sports - Madden, etc.
- Strategy - turn-based strategy games: Final Fantasy Tactics, etc.
