'''Castlevania: Symphony of the Night''', also called '''Castlevania: Nocturne in the Moonlight''' in some regions and often abbreviated ''SotN'', was the first Castlevania game released by [[Konami]] for the [[PlayStation]] and started the new style of Castlevania games known as "Metroidvanias", which were more action-adventure with RPG elements, rather than traditional action/platformers.  

 

The main protagonist is Alucard, son of Dracula, and ally of Trevor Belmont 347 years earlier (in [[Castlevania 3:Dracula's Curse]]). ''SotN'' is a direct sequel to ''[[Demon Castle Dracula X: Reincarnation of Blood]]'' (aka ''Rondo of Blood''), taking place five years later. Dracula's castle has mysteriously returned ahead of schedule and the Belmont on Vampire Killer duty has vanished. The imbalance in the forces of evil awakens Alucard from his eternal slumber, who sets off to investigate.
