Darkstalkers

Darkstalkers, known in Japan and Asia as Vampire, is an arcade game developed by Capcom in 1994 on the CPS-2 hardware. It is the first in a series of games that are notable for its cast of characters based on well-known fictional monsters (hence its Japanese title, Vampire) and introduced many of the concepts used in later Capcom fighting games, including the use of sixteen color animation sprites later employed in the Street Fighter Alpha and the Marvel vs. Capcom series. There have been five arcade games in the series with a few console ports produced as well.

After having developed Super Street Fighter II Turbo, Capcom had felt that the Street Fighter II series had run its course and it was time to invest in new ideas and designs. The Darkstalkers concept was a bold move for Capcom, as all of the characters were entirely new and, other than the legends that they were based on, completely unknown personalities. The other direction that Capcom was moving in at this time was the X-Men: Children of the Atom game which, by contrast, featured a completely well known cast.

The first in the series, fully titled Darkstalkers: The Night Warriors features ten playable characters, and two non-playable boss characters. The game features the same gameplay system Capcom developed for the Street Fighter II series, but with several new gameplay features such as Air Blocking, Crouch Walking and Chain Combos. The game featured a Special meter similar to the Super Combo in Super Street Fighter II Turbo, which the player could fill up to perform a super powered special attack. Unlike the Super Combo meter in Super Turbo, the Special meter in Darkstalkers gradually drains until the player performs their super move, preventing players from preserving their super moves for later use. This game was ported to the PlayStation in 1996.

ORIGIN/TYPE: Egypt/Mummy

“You misbegotten spawn of a jackal! Crawl back to your hole!”

Anakaris is the 12th pharaoh of a great Egyptian empire. He became the pharaoh at the age of 12. Foreseeing his death and revival, Anakaris created a pyramid and a place for his revival. 5000 years later, he was revived when Pyron came along. In order to rule his kingdom once more, he gathered immense power from battling others and then traveled back 5000 years in time. When his kingdom came to be threatened again, he assumed the form of a mummy again to engage in the battles there. He eventually decided to protect his kingdom by moving it entirely into another dimension.

After battling with other Darkstalkers for a brief time, he travels 5000 years back in time to defend his kingdom once more. After fighting off the invaders of his kingdom, he then retaliates and conquers them. But once his kingdom is saved, he hears a voice from the far future. He travels to the present time and enters the Majigen. During the battles within Majigen, he learns that the destruction of his kingdom and people is unavoidable. In response to this revelation, he returns to the past and transports his kingdom beneath the Earth into a new dimension so that it may be free of the wars of Earth.

When hit by his own Pharaoh's Curse, he becomes a hieroglyphic tablet. When attacked by Demitri's Midnight Bliss, he transforms into a female representation of the rebirth god Bennu who is presented as a heron. However, when Demitri goes to grab the upper body, the lower body runs away. Unbeknownst to many, Anakaris has a partner. The Egyptians believed that one's shadow was a representation of their soul, or unconscious. They called this the Khaibit. Anakaris' Khaibit can be seen in several other animations, most notably when Anakaris splits his upper body from his torso.

Anakaris is revived and saves his kingdom.

He instead invades the neighboring kingdom and takes them over. He then says that he hears a voice calling him from the future and disappeared.

The nine commandments

Inaugural speech

These are the words Anakaris spoke when he became the pharaoh. It can be seen that he had already possessed overwhelming charisma and leadership:

"Ultimate and immortal. The only and absolute. I am the true king of this golden kingdom which shines brilliantly. Anakaris the first. Those of you who kneel to me are granted the right to be protected equally under the name of god. But, if you refuse my protection and oppose me, you will be judged under god's name and will be burned with the flames of hell. Those who respect heaven will be given eternal happiness. Those who look down on heaven must pay the price of one's foolishness with one's own life I promise my eternal rule and I allow only souls worthy to gather to my knee's."

Bishamon

ORIGIN/TYPE: Japan/Samurai

“How could you hope to defeat me…The immortal spirit of Bushido!”

When Bishamon was looking around in an old antique shop, as if drawn by fate, he found a piece of armor and a sword. At this moment, he lost his own thought. When he realized where he was, he was at his house, the armor and sword sitting beside him. When he went back to the store to ask what happened, he found out that he had aggressively forced the owner of the shop to give the armor and sword to him. Bishamon himself had no memory of this. It made no sense to him, but as he stared at the armor, it felt meaningless to him.

At the time, his wife, Orin, worried about Bishamon as he sat in front of the armor for days. She asked him to let go of the armor and sword, but Bishamon heard nothing of it. Two weeks later, he decided to ignore his wife and wear the armor.

The moment he wore the armor, he realized his mistake and with the last of his strength, shouted, "Run... Run, Orin!!"

Bishamon's mind was full of hate and accursed power. He had donned Hannya, the armor of hate and Kien, the blood-sucking sword. He went on countless days of killing as Hannya demanded more sacrifices.

When Bishamon had fought against Pyron, Pyron's energies caused Bishamon to be separated from Hannya's curse. To make up for his sins, he and his wife became priests/monks. The practice he had started was called "Roppoudou". This practice gave its followers a strong mind and would cleanse the mind and spirit of its followers. Traveling throughout Japan brought peace to his heart again.

Several years later, he had stopped by an old temple. There, he found writings about a separate dimension called "Makai". Contained within these writings were drawings depicting the armor, "Hannya", and the sword, "Kien" and other creatures similar to those two in what seemed like hell. Bishamon thought to himself, a careless person like himself may appear again. He thought that he may not be able to make up for his sins, but he may be able to prevent a similar tragedy from happening again. He had already walked the path of darkness; he had nothing to fear.

To make contact with this "Makai", he secluded himself within a deep snowy mountain. He sat down and held the Shakujou and started to meditate. When his spiritual strength had reached its peak, he could see that of a different world with the eyes of his heart. He was determined to seal Hannya away at any cost.

At the same time, Hannya had started to thirst for blood once again. Even without having a master this time, the armor and sword started to move again. They gathered all the spirits around them to create a body and moved out to hunt Darkstalkers and their blood. When Hannya and Kien moved out, they were sucked into the Majigen. But before Hannya could kill, Bishamon had caught up to him and sealed him away. After these events, Bishamon had disappeared and is thought to have led a peaceful life.

When hit by Anakaris' Pharaoh's Curse, he becomes a small caricature of the possessed armor. When attacked by Demitri's Midnight Bliss, he transforms into a version of Yukikohime, a character from an old children's anime series named Dororon Enma-kun.

Background Information

Oboro Bishamon

Oboro Bishamon is a secret character who first appeared in Vampire Savior. This version of Bishamon is a depiction of what Bishamon would be like if he truly conquered and mastered the evil in the armor that intended to possess him. As a result, Bishamon is in complete control of both himself and the armor, instead of the armor taking control over him. As a result, he loses the ability to send the soul fires out to possess an opponent, but he gains some new abilities. He has slightly different colors and is shown to don and remove the armor at will before and after a fight.

Hannya, The Cursed Armor

Hannya was formerly a Makai beast like Zabel's companion, Le Malta. It is thought that it came into the human world roughly 600 years ago. Oda Nobunaga had also worn the armor, though its appearance was apparently different. The armor would grant its master superhuman abilities, but in return would turn them into a blood thirsty killer. The armor would shine the more blood it bathed in, while the person wearing it would slowly lose their life.

After the age of war had ended, it would travel using antique shops to find new people for it to wear.

Kien, The Blood Thirsty Sword

In the 1580s, a sword was forged by the name of "Onikiri." As a sword is used to cut a human, its edges would dull because of the fat and blood within a human body. But the Onikiri became sharper as it cut more people due to the way its edges were designed. People feared the sword to due the illusion that it would suck blood from a human body. It was said that if the user did not kill one man a day, the sword would drive it's user insane and force them to kill themselves.

After the time of peace had come, the Onikiri had disappeared for roughly ten years only to come back in a set with Hannya. By this time, it had already been affected by the evil aura of the cursed armor and had changed its own name to "Kien." The choice of name is unknown.

Demitri Maximoff

ORIGIN/TYPE: Romania/Vampire

“Is your blood as thin and weak as you? Let’s find out, shall we?”

Deep within the mountains of Romania lies a castle that appears only on a full moon. The castle, named after the owner of the land, was called Zeltzereich. This castle belonged to a Makai noble, Demitri Maximoff. Roughly 100 years ago, he had challenged Belial Aensland. He lost the battle and was exiled from Makai to the human world with his castle. Sunlight was something that was troublesome for people of Makai, especially for Demitri, who was wounded severely from his battle with Belial. If he were to be directly exposed, his body would be destroyed from the inside and he would disappear.

To avoid the sunlight and humans, he used what he had left of his powers and created a field to cover his castle. He used this field to recover his strength and heal his wounds. For 50 years, he stayed within his casket. As he slowly regained his strength, he would step out only on a full moon with a field around his body.

By this time, there were already people that would wander into the castle. They would somehow hear rumors of treasures within. They would bring crosses, stakes, garlic, holy water, and silver bullets thinking they were safe and recklessly attack Demitri. Demitri couldn't help but smile as such weapons had no effect on him. To Demitri, humans were a low class vulgar race, yet he enjoyed their blood. He savored the blood of innocent girls the most, as it reminded him of the finest Makaian wine. Those who had their blood sucked by Demitri had their body and soul consumed by evil. They would become loyal servants to Demitri. Currently, 40 people settle in Demitri's castle and care for him.

When Demitri recovered 80% of his powers, he was able to temporarily create an aura around him that would protect him from sunlight. Demitri had conquered both night and day and had no weaknesses. There were no means for humans to defeat him. After 100 years of humiliation for his loss, he had gained much. He acquired various new abilities and knowledge. The Prince of Darkness steadily readied himself to take over Makai once again. The presence of an alien life form on Earth was an unexpected event for Demitri. Demitri seized this opportunity to further gain strength and fought against Pyron and consumed the alien life form. He was confident that he was strong enough to challenge and defeat the ruler of Makai, Belial. When he returned to Makai, he found out that Belial had died and his daughter, Morrigan, had taken heir to the Aensland family and the ruler of Makai. As Demitri prepared himself to challenge Morrigan, he and his castle were sucked into the Majigen by Jedah. Believing that defeating Jedah was an important step, he went off to fight him.

Demitri is well-known for his Midnight Bliss attack, which transforms male characters into a female form, and female characters into a more innocent form, while Demitri drains the opponent's energy. When hit by Anakaris' Pharaoh's Curse, he becomes a vampire bat. When attacked by his own Midnight Bliss, he transforms into an otherwise ordinary female maiden in a night gown. This maiden may very well be one of the maidens that willingly provides her own blood to Demitri, in service of her master. As a Vampire, Demitri's dash is somewhat unique. It grants him temporary invulnerability while he is phased out. Additionally, it affects the way he will perform his Demon Cradle move. If performed during a dash, the Demon Cradle will be executed at a forward angle.

ORIGIN/TYPE: U.S.A./Catwoman

“I hope I’ve shown you how to treat a lady. Next time, I’ll have to get rough.”

Felicia was a Catwoman who was taken in and raised by a Sister named Rose who gave her the name Felicia from the word Felicity. When Rose passed away, Felicia left her town hoping to be a musical star. During her travels, she met many other Catwomen of her kind. With her newfound friends, she set out for her dream of being on stage. Eventually, she and her friends successfully started a musical with Felicia being the main star. In the events of Vampire Savior, she wondered about how she could make others happy. In her ending, she constructed an orphanage and became a nun herself.

The existence of a semi-human race called Catwomen was something of a shock to humans, although a huge panic did not occur right away. The loving look that they had soothed people's rejection to them. The look that people gave them was a look of interest in a rare animal instead of a monster.

In America, the public voiced their opinion about how the Catwomen should be recognized and respected. Soon, they were given fundamental human rights. But people's prejudice didn't completely disappear. The musical that Felicia starred in was looked at like an exhibition. But once they had seen Felicia's dance and her lovely voice, the fact that she was a cat-woman made no difference. Felicia's loving personality was able to cleanse the dark parts of human hearts.

When hit by Anakaris' Pharaoh's Curse, she becomes a small white cat that walks on it's hind legs. When attacked by Demitri's Midnight Bliss, she remains very much like herself, but in her own image of success. Felica is a very good natured fighter and only inflicts as much damage as she needs to in order to win a fight. Most of her attacks are acrobatic and gymnastic in nature. She can summon many of her friends to aid her in battle. She also possesses the unique ability to charge up her own special meter at will.

Catwomen

Biology

The Catwomen race are born as normal human babies, but around the age of 4-6, they start to grow body hair, cat ears, paws and tails. They also gain the ability to transform into regular cats. Their sense of smell is several thousand times that of a human. They use this sense of smell to find other Catwomen. They also dislike sunlight and usually act at night.

As the name suggests, there are no men in the Catwomen race. They reproduce by mating with males of other species, and the offspring is always female.

Felicia's Friends

When playing as Felicia, players are able to perform a special move that summons several other Cat-women to Felicia's aid. Although they are not named in the game at all, they each have unique origins and names. They are as follows:

• Pico: A child with braided hair. Comes out when LK and MK is used for "Please Help Me". She is 7 years old. Born in Minnesota, America. She used to live in an orphanage but, after she saw Felicia's stage performance, she left her orphanage to seek out Felicia. She found out she was a Cat-woman after she met Felicia. She is full of curiosity and fears nothing.
• Alto: A child with a ribbon, she appears during "Dark Force". She is 10 years old. It's unknown where she was born. She was kept as a rare pet by a rich man but escaped soon after. She briefly lived in a mountainous area, but was saved by Grace (See Below). She is very shy and afraid of strangers. She was named 'Alto' by Grace.
• Nana and Mimi: These two Catgirls can be discerned by the ribbons they wear. Comes out when MK and HK is used for "Please Help Me". 11 years old. Born in Hong Kong and raised in Saitama, Japan. They were taken to Japan when they snuck into a trade ship. They were raised by an understanding old couple. Both are very easy-going.
• Nonno: Alias Tama. Appears during "Please Help Me" and Felicia's new victory pose. Friends with Nana, they became friends in the mountains located behind their house. Her age and background isn't clear. She likes to hide in balls and play.
• Grace: Tall with a pony-tail. 24 years old. Born in Utah, she is the guardian of Alto. She is incredibly skilled at donning a human appearance and can stay in that form the longest. She is like a mother to Alto and likes to take care of others.
• Lucy: Tall one with a bandana. 18 years old. Born in Virginia, she used to work under a circus. When one of her few understanding human friends died of a sickness, she left the circus. While she was wandering, she met Felicia. She's very cynical and likes to make cynical remarks. She is the strongest out of the group.

Jon Talbain

“My power is the fury of the beast. None can overcome it!”

Background

The Kreutz family is one of the seven noble families of Makai. Though its title is a noble, it would be more suitable to call it an army of warriors and fighters. The current master Xell stands at a height of 5 meters and is a war dragon. He has the most unusual appearance out of all the noble classes. And those who are of his family also have appearances that are far from a human form. But there is no vulgarity and roughness within the family. Unlike the savage forms, they are all first class fighters who are highly trained. They are an organized group who follow orders under strict discipline. They are very loyal to their master. Failing to complete an order or betrayal is paid off with death. Though their numbers are few, they possess powerful one hit attacks and are feared as the "bullet of Makai."

Baraba Kreutz, titled as the "Wolf Lord", is the leader of the royal guardsmen of the Kreutz family. His eyes were the eyes of those who survived countless life-or-death situations. 20 years ago, he had wandered into the human world. But he had forgotten most his memories of his time in the human world. Though he vaguely remembers about the woman who cared for him when he was injured in the human world. When he came back to Makai, he played an active role as a fighter of the Kreutz family. Demitri had even said, "He is my best rival in my life." Demitri felt a certain kind of beauty in Baraba's fighting. A kind not found in the lower darkstalkers. But roughly ten years after he returned to Makai, he suddenly disappeared. Master Xell had searched for him for many years, but he could not be found. Some say that he had returned to the human world to reunite with the woman again. But no one knows the truth of the events.

Jon Talbain's human form

Jon's mother died shortly after giving birth to him, and there was no way to look for his father (assumedly Baraba Kreutz). When he found out he was a darkstalker, he felt no anger towards his parents. To him, his parents were just conceptual parents. He was alone since he could remember. He maintained his human self by cursing his fate. His heart was not strong enough to accept everything and to move as his heart desires. Following his inner voice, he devoted himself to fighting to take himself past his limits. This was part of his pride as a human to fight against his other half.

After the events with Pyron, he had lifted his curse and regained his human form. But this was a temporary illusion that he caused. It was impossible to cleanse his own blood. His will couldn't change the future. During the battles in Majigen, he came face to face with his dark self within. The fate that was pulled by his battles. To flee from his curse, he keeps taking himself past his own limits. Though there may be irreversible consequences, he had no choice but to keep going forward. His fate afterwards is unknown. He now lives as a hermit, hoping to find a meaning to his curse. In Darkstalkers 3, his ending shows that he takes care of two children.

When hit by Anakaris' Pharaoh's Curse, he becomes a Dachshund. When attacked by Demitri's Midnight Bliss, he becomes a woman in a plain robe with pointed wolf ears on her head and a wolf's tail sticking out from behind. He has never been married, but it is shown in Darkstalkers 3 that he has taken care of some children. His name is a reference to John Talbot, the father of Lon Chaney Jr.'s character (who becomes a werewolf) in the classic movie The Wolf Man. Talbain has never killed a human being. Unlike his father, he is a hermit who likes to be alone, but will always help someone who is in trouble and crosses his path. B.B. Hood seems to bear a grudge against Talbain and wolves in general as indicated in Pocket Fighter, where she is seen in the background harassing him and her ending in Darkstalkers 3. This is possibly a nod to B.B. Hood's conceptual origins. Baby Bonnie Hood's grandmother was killed by a werewolf, but it was not Talbain.

Lord Raptor

ORIGIN/TYPE: Australia/Ghoul

“You should thank me. That broken face is very becoming on you.”

Raptor (known as Zabel Zarock in Japan) was a charismatic young rock star who was an expert guitarist and was known as the "God of Metal". He was unknown before the release of his first album, Oral Dead. Though not a success initially, enough interest was cultivated until his second album was released. It sold 200,000 copies in a month, and reached one million in three months, becoming the next sensation in the metal scene. He instantly became famous throughout Australia.

Raptor killed himself and over a hundred fans in what would be his final live performance.

Because of his notoriety as a power-hungry criminal, he was noticed by the Emperor Ozomu, who baptised Raptor's soul in darkness and thus resurrected him as a zombie and renamed him Lord Raptor. Ozomu then used Raptor's bloodlust to his advantage, enlisting him into his services with the promise of more power. Although Raptor agreed, his true plans were to kill Ozomu himself and rule as Emperor. Ozomu knows this and has sent a small one eyed frog-like creature named Le Malta to surveillance Raptor though he also doubles as Raptor's ally. But when the Emperor and his castle disappeared, Raptor was puzzled. When he arrived at the location where Ozomu's castle used to stand, he found the entrance to the Majigen. This time, he intended to kill the creator of the Majigen and take his role.

A few days after Raptor's death, a strange leather-covered book was found in his house. The book was called "A Chapter of Tolagido" and was written in what seemed to be ancient Hebrew. The book explained the existence of another world called "Makai". The words in the book resembled the lyrics to his hit songs, and in a topic titled "A curse to give sacrifices to the king of Makai", the lyrics to Raptor's song "Sacrifice" were found. This song was the last played during the concert where Raptor and his crowd died.

With further research, it was discovered that the preparation for the curse took a long time. Since the first album was released, Raptor had already started to brainwash his potential victims. His apparent aim was to start the curse with his music and obtain sacrifices.

When hit by Anakaris' Pharaoh's Curse, he becomes an electric guitar, decorated with the Union Jack. When attacked by Demitri's Midnight Bliss, he becomes a gothic punk rocker chick with blue skin. An unusual characteristic of Raptor is that as a girl, she takes out a gun and points it at Demitri's head, but doesn't seem to get the chance to fire it off in time. Raptor is one of the only characters in any of Capcom's games to be able to move while crouching. A running gag in the game is Raptor's love for Hsien-Ko. This often causes his attacks against her to yield humorous scenes. Raptor can also be seen with literal Hearts in his eye in Hsien-Ko's level in Super Puzzle fighters.

LeMarta

Only a few species of the Makai animal world possess the ability to cross the boundary between the human and demon world, and LeMarta is one of them. Ozomu provides Lord Raptor with LeMarta as a partner, but LeMarta's true secret purpose is to spy on Lord Raptor and report his every move to Ozomu. But even after Ozomu disappears, LeMarta stays by Raptor's side. He even becomes the guitar which Raptor plays during one of his victory animations, as well as assisting in a few of Raptor's attacks. In the EX Move "Hell Dunk", Raptor pushes the opponent into LeMarta's mouth, who transforms the opponent into a ball. Then LeMarta becomes a basketball hoop for Raptor to dunk the opponent through before he or she transforms back into their original shape. While Raptor has fallen in love with Hsien-Ko, but it is B.B. Hood that LeMarta takes a fancy too. He is particularly attracted to her dark side. Hearts fly out of his eyes whenever he sees her before a fight begins.

Noise of Heaven

The third album, which was more religious and ceremonial. It contained the song "Soul Beats". It's theme is the rebirth of souls. It also contains the song "Black Justice".

Tripper

His first memorial live album which took place in the Southern Cross Hall and gathered 60,000 people. 400 people went unconscious, and 18 people had heart attacks (two of which died). After this had occurred, entering the live shows became harder and the police began to monitor his life.

Fangorra

His compilation album which contains un-released songs. There was a rumour that the album contained a track zero, so the record companies called back the CD. Before the first track, there were 16 seconds of silence. Many people claimed that a devil's curse would play during that time, although there was no music actually recorded during this silence. After the CDs were called back, the first press became premium items.

Devil

His final album which was released after his death. Contains the song "Sacrifice", which was played when Raptor committed murder-suicide.

“My beauty can overcome brains and brawn!”

Morrigan (full name: Morrigan Aensland) is the adopted daughter of Belial Aensland. When she was born, Morrigan was extremely powerful with an S-class rating, so much so that Belial sealed away part of her power, one-third in himself to be returned upon his death, and one-third in a pocket dimension, which eventually became a being of its own, a succubus named Lilith. Without knowing this, Morrigan grew up. She found her life in the Aensland castle dull, and so she visited the human world many times to look for some kind of entertainment. One night, she was drawn to a strange power (later identified as Pyron) and ventured into the human world once again.

After she returned from the human world, she was told that Belial had died and that she is the next successor to the throne of the Aensland family. Although she is rightfully the ruler of Makai, she keeps avoiding her responsibilities and continues her life as before. But when Jedah created the Majigen, she and her castle were pulled into Jedah's dimension. Sensing Lilith, Morrigan sets off hoping to find some sort of enjoyment. After she meets Lilith, the two become one again.

Morrigan is very vain, and lives for little more than the excitement of battle, although her endings in the games as well as various media show that Morrigan slowly takes up more of her responsibility seriously. She is a beautiful succubus woman with long, light green hair, and bat-like wings on her back and the sides of her head. Morrigan can reshape these wings into spikes and blades when attacking her enemies, as well as using them to shield herself from enemy attacks. Her wings can also separate from her, and form into a cloud of bats. She uses a variety of magical attacks as well.

Although Demitri would seem to fill the spot, it is often suggested and implied that Morrigan is the main character of the Darkstalkers series, due to her importance in the overall story as well as her many appearances outside of her game series. She may even be considered the protagonist or something of an anti-hero, since despite her demonic appearance and nature, she is not evil.

When hit by Anakaris' Pharaoh's Curse, she becomes a bat, ironically very much like Demitri. When attacked by Demitri's Midnight Bliss, she becomes what's known as a "cupie doll" (short for cutie pie) that are popular prizes at amusement parks. Morrigan's Darkness Illusion was the first super move to use the button press sequence (LP, LP, F, LK, HP) that is now commonly associated with the Shun Goku Satsu and also was able to throw projectiles from the air before Akuma. Morrigan was the original Darkstalker to break out of her original fighting game series and be transplanted in to the Marvel vs. Capcom series. In the first Marvel vs. Capcom game, not only was Morrigan present, but an alternate "Lilith-style" Morrigan was a secret character. In Marvel vs. Capcom 2, she is joined by fellow Darkstalkers Anakaris, B.B. Hood, and Felicia.

Background Information

The Succubus Race

It is generally said that the succubus race absorbs the spirit of the opposite sex and uses it as their own energy source. But the succubi that live in the Aensland family are slightly different. They create a special secretion liquid in their body when they are either physically or mentally stimulated. They use this liquid to maintain their life. If one were to be trapped inside a small secluded area, she would die within two days due to the lack of stimulus. This is because the liquid needed to maintain her life can't be secreted. But to make up for this, they have become able to look into the dreams of others. When no stimulus was given, they evolved to look for other ways to look for excitement. When a creature dreams, a special secretion liquid is formed in the brain. A succubus can take this liquid from the outside. Those who have been robbed have strange feelings, as if their dream was completely taken away. This is quite different from not having any memory of a dream. This liquid, which the succubus robbed, is dissolved into the body of the succubus and is composed.

Their blood and saliva has a powerful lustful effect. Their body odor causes a man's blood vessels to dilate and causes a large amount of perspiration. If a man is confronted by a succubus, unless they have a very strong mind, they would instantly be under her spell.

The succubus race lives about 400 years. Roughly ten years after they are born, they gain their adult appearance and keep this beautiful form until they die. Their beautiful appearance is kept intact even when they are old. Over the past several hundred years, their ability to reproduce has been in danger. The amount of spirit that can be taken from an individual is limited. There search for new dreams have caused them to reach into the human world but it is becoming more and more difficult to reach a good amount of nutrition. When Morrigan became the successor of the Aensland family, there were roughly only 200 succubi left. At this rate, the succubus race would disappear after one or two generations. But the succubi themselves do not care about the crisis and are enjoying their everyday lives.

The Incubus Race

The Incubus race is said to be the opposite race to the Succubus race. The Incubus is not simply a distinction like a male and female in a race but a completely different race. Although they are treated as a lecherous race like the succubus, they are quite different. First off, their physical looks are not all handsome looking guys, unlike the succubus where they are all beautiful looking women. Many of the incubuses are inhuman and may have four feet or may be dragon types. 60% of the incubus race are made up from these types. They have a powerful aphrodisiac digestive fluid in their body and they pour this into their victim. This fluid causes the victim's elements inside to change and becomes a very efficient food type for them. This method is similar to an insect or an animal. they prefer women because they are better food type than men. They only eat men when they have to.

Rikuo

ORIGIN/TYPE: Brazil/Merman

“You land-beings are so weak! I’m disappointed.”

Deep beneath the Amazon, lay a kingdom of the 30,000 mermen. One fateful day, this peaceful aquatic empire was shattered and destroyed by a tremendous earthquake and volcanic activity. The merman emperor and hero Rikuo (known as Aulbath in Japan), was alone. His empire destroyed, he was filled with rage and when he found out that Pyron was the one who caused the fall of his empire, he vowed to destroy him. But when he met another survivor, Aqueria, he settled down with her to rebuild his empire. He and his wife moved out of the Amazon into the great ocean to raise their family. Currently, family consists of his wife Aqueria, his three sons and 12 soon to hatch eggs.

Rikuo and his family live in a crack, 150m deep. The current of the ocean doesn't make its way into the area and is a perfect location to protect their eggs from danger. His current self-imposed duty is to search for any other survivors of his kingdom. He searches in a radius of 200km for any other surviving mermen. Though close to his home is a deep oceanic trench, with a fast ocean current running through it. If Rikuo fell into the trench, even he couldn't swim against the strong current. And the deepest he could search was 1000m deep. It was an endless search, but Rikuo believed that other mermen had survived.

Ever since he and his family had moved to this sea, although very faint, he had sensed the life of something similar to his own race. As each day passed, his search for his fellow merman increases in area and the time he spends with his family decreases. During one of his searches, one of his sons, Ricky (Alba in Japan), disappears. He ponders to himself about how one could defend a kingdom if he cannot protect his own family. Soundly believing that his son was sucked into the Majigen, Rikuo heads his way into Jedah's realm. But when the powers of Makai start to fade, the lost, dark sea of Sargasso was released from its century-long isolation and Rikuo found his son along with a new race of merman. The two families now help one another in order to rebuild the civilization of the sea...

When hit by Anakaris' Pharaoh's Curse, he becomes a simple frog. When attacked by Demitri's Midnight Bliss, he becomes a traditional mermaid, with a human top and a fish bottom. Rikuo's name is a play on Ricou Browning, the actor who played the titular character of Creature from the Black Lagoon in underwater scenes. In his Vampire Savior ending, Jedah is surprised that Rikuo's intelligence has allowed him to discover the dark messiah's true purpose. This makes Rikuo one of the few characters not to be deceived by Jedah's illusions in the Majigen.

Background Information

Aqueria

Aqueria was an ordinary female of the merman race. At the time of the destruction of her kingdom, she had been swimming on the outskirts of the kingdom. She was swallowed by the current caused by the eruption. When she awoke, she was thrown into an unknown world, onto land. She had been thrown into the dense forest of the Amazon. Not knowing how to get home, she searched for any place with water. After searching for half a day, she found a lake which she considered little more than a puddle of water (this was a lake Rikuo visited often).

She waited for a few days but there was no signs of her friends coming to save her. After making up her mind, she follows a faint smell to an entrance to an underground river. She then makes her way back to her kingdom. When she came back, she saw her kingdom swallowed by a dark crack in the sea. She intuitively realizes that she had lost all her friends and crumbles to the ground without any words. But she still had not lost hope. She believed that king Aulbath would have somehow survived the disaster and would still be alive somewhere. And that he will come save her soon. After believing and waiting for half a year, the young girl and Rikuo Aulbath are reunited. A new love is born and the beginning of a new kingdom had started.

The structure of Aulbath's former kingdom

Rikuo Aulbath's kingdom is different from a Monarchic government/Imperical Rule. There are no royal families. Each king is chosen by the previous king after obtaining the people's consent, and the next king is chosen. Every merman is given a rank and they are strongly united and they keep a mutual trust with this. The ranks do not mean a social position but it is more used to give each one a job that suits them. Those who gather food, those who protect their own from danger, those who create habitats, those who care's for the young etc.

Out of these many jobs, raising the young is usually done by the males (The females are raised by their own mothers). In the case of males, their mimicking abilities (all Mermen have the ability to shift parts of their body at will, as seen when Rikuo fights) is usually used to scale their strength level. It is important for those caring for the young to pass on this ability. This mimicking ability is not just changing the appearance, but to also use the ability of which they are mimicking. One who excels in this wins everyone's respect. Rikuo Aulbath had mastered this ability beyond anyone else. It can be said that for his son Ricky (Alba in Japan), he is the greatest teacher.

Reproduction

The Merman race have reproductive periods. The average time for Mermen to lay eggs is around the human age of 16 to 22. They bear eggs two times within one year averaging about 10 to 20 eggs. On average, a couple lays 60 to 120 eggs. But only 10% of these hatch and out of those, only 2 to 5% of these survive. A few hundred years ago, the lake they used to live in was fresh water. But within decades, sea water had flowed in and caused the salt level to rise. This may have been the reason why Rikuo and his family could live in the sea without much trouble against the salt level. But this may also be the reason for the decreasing birth rate.

Sasquatch

ORIGIN/TYPE: Canada/Bigfoot (Yeti)

“If I have to fight weaklings like yourself, then you could at least make an effort!”

Sasquatch is the most noble of his tribe of Bigfoot that live deep in the Rocky Mountains of Canada. When he sensed the powers of the monster known as Pyron, he set out to find out what it was. After returning to his village, he finds members of his village have mysteriously disappeared. In the center of the village was a large hole. Determined that his fellow villagers have been pulled into trouble, Sasquatch jumped into the hole to find and rescue them. In the end, he found out that his fellow Bigfoot went willingly because Jedah gave them lots of bananas.

The village where the Bigfoot people dwell lies in a basin within the Rocky mountains of Canada. It is surrounded by steep mountains. Below their village is a huge frozen lake which is covered with thick ice. This is where they catch their primary source of food; fish. About 100 Bigfoots live in this village. To them, it is more like a big family than a tribe. The temperature of this area is constantly at -30 degrees Fahrenheit. Near the entrance to their primary settlement is a village called Crevasse. A snowstorm rages in this area all but constantly and as such it is very hard for a human to gain access. Even if they somehow manage, their rude intrusion may anger the native Bigfoots, slimming their chances of escape considerably.

The Bigfoots are not a violent people. In fact, they are friendly towards other races. But this is only if manners are shown. As long they are not treated as simply beasts and visitors show signs of sincerity, Bigfoots will show signs of friendship. To them, human sincerity means bananas or other delicious foods. To keep a good relation, food is an essential item.

When hit by Anakaris' Pharaoh's Curse, he becomes a snowman with a pail for a hat, and a single stick for an arm with a glove hanging limply off the end. When attacked by Demitri's Midnight Bliss, he becomes a girl with pig-tails wearing a drastically oversized sasquatch costume, complete with a giant banana. Despite his tribe's initial intentions to battle with other makai tribes and humanity in order to take over, it seems that the Bigfoot tribe is one of the more harmless races in the Darkstalkers series. They were easily subjugated before this invasion by a human merely giving them a banana. This fruit would become the Bigfoot tribes most prized food, as well as become a slight obsession, possibly opening trade relations with the human race just to get the wonderful fruit.

Background Information

The communication network

They have their own distinct network using Makai Seals called "Makai Postal". This is the Bigfoot's information source and it proves a cultural and modern standard of living. Even when Sasquatch left his village, they used Stone Mail to contact each other. It's delivery service spans all over the world. It can send mails to the South Pole or North Pole within 4 days. This is due to the Makai beast, the Mach-Crab race.

The Interchange between other Makai creatures

The tribe of the Bigfoots has many ties with other races outside of humanity, these allies are evidenced in some of Sasquatch's attacks.

The penguins that appear during Dark Force are known as Snowslide Penguins. They live together in the same village as the Bigfoot's. They are helping Sasquatch when they hear about the disappearance of their village members. Their desperate attacks tend to draw tears. The Snowman belong to a Makai race called the Snowman race. They have the ability to make it snow or to cause the temperature to fall. To aid Sasquatch, they follow him into Majigen.

The Snow Beast race(the sled dogs that appear during Big Sledge) are a very shy race. They are very friendly towards the Bigfoot race but rarely show themselves. But when it is urgent, they quickly appear and pull Sasquatch very powerfully. The Small Makai Whale is a long time friend of Sasquatch. It's huge blow from it's tail is always powerful. There have been interchange since the tribe leader Tundra was young.

Victor von Gerdenheim

ORIGIN/TYPE: Germany/Frankenstein-creature

"You are no match for my great strength!"

Victor Von Gerdenheim was the creation of a mad scientist by the same name. However, Professor Von Gerdenheim passed away shortly after bringing Victor to life. Victor believed that, if he proved himself the strongest in the world, the Professor would accept him. Accordingly, Victor left the castle to fight numerous Darkstalkers. When he finally came back to the castle, Victor found the Professor dead. He was welcomed home by his "sister" Emily, a fellow creation of the Professor's.

The two lived happily for many years until, one night, Emily malfunctioned. Victor believed that, by collecting enough souls, he could revive Emily; accordingly, Victor entered the Majigen. In the end, he sacrificed his own life to revive Emily.

Every one of Professor Gerdenheim's research pursuits encountered some kind of humane or ethical problems. He was also marked as a dangerous man to the council of Medical Academic Research. His research on revival of dead cells was a completely new idea in the field, but was nothing more than a nuisance to those who lost their rights due to it. Although he was known as a "Mad Professor", people started spreading false rumours about him. Rumours that he was an inhumane, publicity chaser and even a drug addict. Because of these rumours, the public and the council were filled with suspicion and contempt. Due to the power of the council, his chances to speak in public were taken away as well. Soon, he was forgotten by society.

Regardless, the Professor continued his research, but not for the prospect of fame. It was almost better that the public ignored him for his research. He moved his operations to a country town and spent his days in the underground laboratory. The creation of life was his ultimate inner-goal. According to his research, if he obtained the right materials and enough electrical power, he believed that he would be able to prove the validity his research. He used any measure to obtain the materials he needed. After moving into the laboratory, none saw him for over 20 years. It is believed that this isolation drove his mind into further madness, his sheer force of will alone made him march on and create miracles.

For most of his later days in life, he spent his time experimenting on Victor. It was very difficult to read his research material when he was insane and many mysterious signs were used in his writings. This is the only legacy of the Professor who researched the creation of life that lies "Beyond the darkness".

When hit by Anakaris' Pharaoh's Curse, he becomes a small robotic doll. It's difficult to see, but the tiny Victor is holding a little rag doll which represents Emily. When attacked by Demitri's Midnight Bliss, he becomes a rather muscular Frankenstein girl. Both Victor and his father are named after Victor Frankenstein, the protagonist of the 1818 novel Frankenstein, written by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley. Victor's body (and clothing) is apparently amorphous, as several of his body parts stretch, grow, or wobble unnaturally as he fights. Normally these are just whatever appendage he is using at the time cartoonishly increasing in size to accent his attack (such as his fist doubling in size when he punches). When Strong/Fierce Punch or Forward/Roundhouse Kick are held, his normal attacks become electricity-based and do block damage. Comically, Victor will also use his rear end to attack for his close standing kicks, and that will also grow to cartoonish proportions when he strikes with it as well. For example: one of his super arts makes him squeeze his opponent between his butt-cheeks

Background Information

When was Emily created?

Before the Prof. went into his real experiment, he did many tests on human bodies. Emily was made as a prototype that couldn't generate electricity by itself and could only be activated once. He failed many times over and over until he finally succeeded in animating Emily. But she was only a doll that moved by flowing electricity into her constantly. Her limbs could move temporarily and would only last for about 30 seconds. But this was still one step closer to his goal of creating new life. He began to design Victor who could generate electricity by itself and increased the size of the body to do this. It is still unknown why Emily can move like Victor after the experiment. Most likely, when Victor was created, a part of the large amount of electricity used to animate Victor flowed into Emily as well. She was able to store a vast amount of electricity in her due to an accident.

How to create an artificial body

Victor is the ultimate masterpiece that Prof. Gerdenheim left. These are the records left by the doctor to create Victor.

1. Collecting human bodies for materials. The bodies are to be fresh as possible. To store vast amounts of electricity, the body is enlarged by combining human parts.
2. Sewing up the bone, muscles and nerves.
3. Transplanting a electrostatic organic material into the nerve and muscles. To re-animate the dead cells, this step cannot be missed. The manufacturing process of this material and its raw material is top secret.
4. To soak the material in a special revival liquid and to wait for 200 hours at a temperature of -18 degrees or less. This process causes the material to not rot.
5. To connect an electrode and a pacemaker with the involuntary muscle of the heart. This is to make the heart infinitely move.
6. Circulating charged liquid (blood). This liquid was created by the doctor just like the revival liquid. It takes several years to create enough liquid for one human body.
7. To stimulate it with a high voltage current. This is the problem that the Prof. ran into in the end. In one mili-second, 100 thousand KW must be sent into 20mm or more of a surface. Because he couldn't use a large scale facility, he had to rely on lighting for his source.
