Gauntlet Legends is a 3D Action/RPG based on the classic Gauntlet series. You have a choice between four basic characters: Warrior, Valkyrie, Archer ("Elf") and Wizard. There are also several bonus characters. The game is broken up into 5 "worlds" with several levels in each world. Your goal is to find obelisks and rune stone use to restore the power of Sumner so he can defeat the evil demon Skone. You gain levels by killing enemies, and with each level your stats improve. The game's success led to an expansion of sorts, Gauntlet Dark Legacy, which included new characters and worlds as well as those from Gauntlet Legends.

Story

In ages past, a corrupt mage named Garm used a set of Runestones to summon a demon named Skorne (It is not stated what Garm intended to use Skorne for; however, as Gauntlet Legends introduces Garm as a "greedy young mage", it can be assumed he wanted Skorne for his own personal gain.) However, Skorne crushed Garm and imprisoned his soul in the Underworld. Skorne, fearing the power of the Runestones, scattered them throughout the four realms, so that they could never be used against him. The player(s) must defeat the end bosses of each of the four realms to obtain the four keys which allow access to Skorne's temple. While traveling through each realm, he/she/they must also collect the Thirteen Runestones from where they have been scattered. The complete set of Runestones allows him/her/them to pursue Skorne to the Underworld in order to finally destroy him.

FAQ

What does "Outed" mean?
Outed is actually how I heard "is it." After consulting somebody with better hearing than me, I changed it. It means all the enemies will go after you first. Useless in 1 player, but can be used as a strategy device in multi (make everything attack the warrior instead of the archer)
How do I get the nude Valkyrie/Archer?
To the extent of my knowledge, you can’t. I’ve seen many codes for this, but none of them seem to work, so for now I’m saying it isn’t possible. (I’ve also looked through the code for the game, and I can’t find anything that gives you access to any other skins aside from the publicly known playable characters.)
The Nude Valkyrie
can only be obtained on the Gauntlet Legends for the Arcade Console. To obtain her, play as player 2, the blue one, and enter NUD as your name, and 069 as your password. (I have tested this character for the arcade version and it works correctly)
Pojo the Chicken
can be obtained only on the arcade version as well, by entering EGG as the name, and 911 as the password. (I have tested this character for the arcade version and it works correctly)

Misc

Star Wars Sighting

There are four debatable Star Wars references in game:

  • The tentacles from the Castle Courtyard - similar to the creature from the garbage compactor on the Death Star.
  • The Ricochet noise sounds like a blaster.
  • The Ice Yeti looks a lot like the Hoth Ice Creature
  • The scream of the suiciders sounds like the Tie Fighter fly-by, lowered in pitch.
