Myst is an adventure game first released in 1993. It was an instant success, and went on to spawn many sequels. It has been released for many platforms. Until the release of The Sims, it was the best-selling computer game ever.

The player controls a character known only as "The Stranger". The Stranger reads a book describing a mysterious island, and upon touching the last page is whisked away to that world. The only way to escape the island is to solve its mysteries. Books are central to Myst, and it is only through collecting pages that The Stranger is finally able to leave the island.
