Mario Chase: The Great Getaway is a competitive attraction based on the Mario series, for 2-5 players.

Controls[edit]

Mario[edit]

The Mario player uses the Wii U GamePad.

  • Neutral lstick: Move
  • Map is displayed on the touch screen, and shows the positions of Toads, Yoshi Carts, and the Super Star.

Toads[edit]

The Toad player(s) use the Wii Remote, held horizontally (Remote-Horizontal button).

  • Neutral dpad: Move
  • 2 button: Tackle

Gameplay[edit]

This game is a simple hide-and-seek/tag affair. The GamePad player, dressed as Mario, must evade the Toads until time runs out, while the Wii Remote player(s), dressed as blue, green, purple, and yellow Toads, must find and catch Mario before time runs out. If there is only one Toad, they will be assisted by two CPU-controlled Yoshi Carts, who can call out which of the four sections of the map Mario is in, and briefly stun them by hitting them with their tongues.

At the start of the match, Mario is given 10 seconds to run and hide before the Toads and Yoshi Carts can begin to pursue them. After the first 30 seconds have passed, a Super Star appears in the center of the arena. If Mario collects it, they become briefly invincible and faster, able to knock away any Toads and Yoshi Carts they touch.

Stages[edit]

One of three different arenas can be chosen to play in. There are two different versions of each stage, depending on if there are 1-2 or 3-4 Toad players.

Chase Arena[edit]

This is a good course for beginners, with no major obstacles or gimmicks. The music for this stage is an arrangement of the "athletic theme" from Super Mario Bros. 3.

Mud River Run[edit]

The main feature of this stage is the various trenches of mud, which slow down both Mario and the Toads while they move through it (if Mario is using a Super Star, they will not be slowed down). There are bridges connecting the four sections that can be used to avoid the mud, but they will collapse if Mario crosses them (the Toads can cross indefinitely). The music for this stage is an arrangement of the "athletic theme" from Super Mario World.

Slide Hill[edit]

This stage has various slides that are one-way; Mario and the Toads will briefly lose control until they reach the bottom of the slide. These can be used as a quick getaway for Mario, or as a surprise attack for the Toads. The music for this stage is an arrangement of "Slider" from Super Mario 64.
