This walkthrough deals with just about the entire mansion (about 80% of the rooms) and finding the four crests to unlock the Shed door, which leads to the next area of the game, the Courtyard. After the introduction movie, you will find yourself inside the Spencer Mansion, thought to have been abandoned long ago. Hearing a gunshot, Captain Wesker sends both Jill and Barry to investigate the noise. Both characters will automatically walk to the main Dining Room door and open it. If you're Chris, Wesker will send him to investigate the noise alone; Chris will automatically open the Dining Room door. This is where you start to take control...

When you enter, immediately kill the zombie to Jill's right and then run to the opposite side: Kill the two zombies lurking nearby and then push the blue statue off of the balcony (by pushing it off near the destroyed part of the railing). After you've pushed it off, run to the opposite side of the room and head through the single door in the corner. Quickly hold down the aim button and kill the zombie that comes from the left side; when he's dead, turn the corner and finish off the other two zombies and descend the staircase.  


'''Rebirth (Chris):''' You may or may not have triggered the Cerberus to come through the window, but if you did, make sure you hold down the R-trigger and shoot until it is dead. If you didn't, just turn the corner and you will. Once this Cerberus is down, keep running down the hallway. You'll see a "corpse" on the ground, although it's not really dead (you can tell if an enemy is dead by seeing if it leaves behind a blood puddle). Walk past the pillar to trigger another Cerberus to come through a window. Shoot the Cerberus once, run back to the stairs, and finish it off from there. Make sure you also kill the crawling zombie and then run to the very end of the hallway. Luckily for you, there's another Cerberus that comes, so kill this one off and then head through the single door at the very end of the hallway.
Once you get to the bottom, run to the area behind the staircase and open the nearby door: Inside is a nice safe room, so drop off the Bazooka and Acid Rounds in the item box (there's also an optional pair of '''Ink Ribbons''' on the bed) and then exit the room. As soon as you exit the room, press the aim button and shoot as fast as you can to kill the Cerberus next to you. Turn the corner and run down the corridor to trigger another one... kill it and keep going down the hallway to make the last one come through the window. An Abandoned Mansion[edit]

This walkthrough deals with just about the entire mansion (about 80% of the rooms) and finding the four crests to unlock the Shed door, which leads to the next area of the game, the Courtyard. After the introduction movie, you will find yourself inside the Spencer Mansion, thought to have been abandoned long ago. Hearing a gunshot, Captain Wesker sends both Jill and Barry to investigate the noise. Both characters will automatically walk to the main Dining Room door and open it. If you're Chris, Wesker will send him to investigate the noise alone; Chris will automatically open the Dining Room door. This is where you start to take control...

All Versions[edit]

Jill starts off in the Dining Room with Barry, while Chris goes in alone. Both characters will start off with a Combat Knife and a First Aid Spray in their inventories, but Jill already comes equipped with the Beretta M92FS. The Dining Room is a good area to get used to Biohazard's controls and inventory screen, so practice for a bit until you familiarize yourself with the system. Once you're done, run to the other side of the table and exit the Dining Room via the door in the corner (if you're playing as Jill, Barry will notice a pool of blood and sends you off to look for more clues). To open doors, stand next to them and press the Action Button.

You're now in the Tea Room, which is a small hallway that leads to many other rooms in the mansion, although we're not concerned with them for now. Turn left and walk around the corner to trigger a cutscene; after it's over, a zombie will rise from the ground. Quickly turn around and run back to the door. Wait for the zombie to come toward you and then run past it. Investigate the corpse three times for two Beretta Clips and then dodge the zombie one more time to make it back to the Dining Room.

Turn to the left and run to the other side of the table, opening the double doors to go back into the Main Hall. (Jill players will encounter a cutscene in which the zombie from the Tea Room is dispatched by Barry's powerful magnum; both teammates then decide reporting to Wesker would be the best idea, so simply head back to the Main Hall after the cutscene is over.) Hmm... no sign of Wesker anywhere. You can find some Ink Ribbons on the small table next to the large staircase (Ink Ribbons allow you to save your game at a typewriter, but each time you do, one Ink Ribbon is depleted).

Those who are playing as Jill can simply run behind the staircase and report to Barry after, who then gives Jill a Lockpick and leaves the Main Hall; once he does, head through the set of double blue doors behind you. Chris can pick up Jill's dropped Beretta M92FS near the red carpet and proceed up the staircase. (It is advised that Director's Cut Chris players should not pick up the pair of Ink Ribbons, as you have limited inventory space.)

Jill (all versions)[edit]

Jill will now be in the Small Gallery; you can pick up the 1st Floor Map by pushing the nearby brown stepladder up against the blue statue and climbing on top of it. The map will be inside the jug, which you can then grab from your current position. Other than that, you can push the brown chest in the back and go inside the room to find an optional pair of Ink Ribbons on a shelf around the corner (but be careful of the zombie on the ground... you can simply walk around him). Once you're done, step through the brown door in the corner of the room.(It should also be noted that Rebirth players will encounter their first knifefight with two zombies: remember to slide the stylus across the screen for effective slashes and also pick up any items they may drop.)

Chris (all versions)[edit]

Meanwhile, Chris is on the second floor of the mansion: simply climb up the staircase on the right and exit the Main Hall via the second single door on the very right (the one on the balcony). Inside this hallway, take the Small Key that's in the alcove and open the door on the other side of the hall; head out to the balcony and take the Beretta Clip in front of the corpse. Director's Cut (Chris) and Rebirth (Chris) players will have to deal with a problem: the corpse comes alive! Quickly turn around, run back to the door, and kill the zombie from there; once it's dead, Director's Cut (Chris) players will find the Armor Key (a very important key) where the corpse was while Rebirth (Chris) players can get that Clip. Return back to the Main Hall and go through the double doors on the other side of the room (Director's Cut players have to go through the right-hand door).

The East and West Wings[edit]

Jill (all versions)[edit]

Out of the Small Gallery, Jill is now in the L-Shaped Hallway. Run forward until the camera angle changes. When it does, turn around and start walking backwards. As soon as you walk past the first window, a Cerberus dog will jump right through it. Immediately aim your Beretta and shoot it once. Each time you shoot a Cerberus, it will rest for approximately three seconds and charge at you again. Shoot it to death (or preferably stab it) while it rests. Turn the corner to face yet another Cerberus. Apply the same tactics you learned to kill off this canine. When it's dead, walk up to brown chest in the second part of the hallway (this chest is darker than all of the other ones) and push it to the right to reveal a hidden Beretta Clip. Take the Clip off of the ground and open the door that's at the end of the hallway.

For Jill, there's a single Green Herb you can pick up that's to your left (Green Herbs restore a small portion of your health, and when combined with other herbs, they can even cure poison or heal you completely). Run to the very end of the hallway and head through the single brown door that's to the left.Go to the very end of the hallway, opening the single brown door that's to the left. Now that all three scenarios are in the same room again, open the door on the opposite side, take the Shotgun that's on display on the other side of this room (Rebirth players will have to face three zombies in this room), and exit the room. Jill faces a dilemma, but Barry comes in to save the day; now head through the double doors in front of you.

Chris (Original and Rebirth)[edit]

Back to Chris: immediately kill the zombie to your right with your Beretta. Run to the left side of the room and stay behind the statue. Wait for the zombie to come up to the statue (he'll get stuck) and take out your Combat Knife. Start stabbing the zombie from behind the statue until it is finally dead. Once it is, push the blue statue forward until it is behind the destroyed part of the railing. Go to the left of the statue and push it forward so it falls off of the balcony. After you do this, run to the other side of the Dining Room 2F and exit via the single brown door in the corner. (Note: Rebirth players will have to deal with an annoying crow which can be killed with the Beretta easily and another zombie on the other side, which can also be stabbed from behind the statue.)

Chris players will find themselves in an elaborate Yellow Hallway (filled with zombies of course). Turn the corner to see three zombies: kill the first one with your Beretta and finish off the other two from behind the railing. If they get close, run back to the door and shoot them from there. When all of them are dead, go down the staircase that's in the center of the room (Rebirth players will once again have to deal with an annoying crow, so be sure to kill it before the zombies). Now back on the first floor, you'll encounter a zombie in front of you: kill it and go to the area behind the staircase. Finish off this wandering zombie and open the nearby door; Rebirth players will instead have to deal with Cerberus dogs, so be sure to immediately run to the door next to the staircase and not even bother with them (for now).

Director's Cut (Chris)[edit]

Now onto Director's Cut (Chris), who follows a different path from the other Chris scenarios. Turn the next corner and immediately kill the zombie waiting there Turn left now and kill the zombie waiting at the corner and his nearby friend; when they're dead open the single door at the very end of the hallway. Finally, Director's Cut (Chris) players will find themselves in a quaint library, where you'll be able to pick up a Botany Book, a file which goes into detail about herbs, on the table. Other than that, exit the room through the opposite door and quickly kill the two zombies now in front of you; when they're dead and gone, go down the nearby staircase, kill two more zombies next to it, and head through the nearby brown door. Inside is your first real safe room, where you'll find a nice item box and typewriter; walk up to the item box and drop off the Small Key, Combat Knife and First Aid Spray and then take the two Beretta Clips from inside. Afterwards, exit the room (there's also a nearby Green Herb) and go back up the staircase, heading through the door directly in front of it and going through the next door on the left.

Last but not least, Director's Cut (Chris) players will be inside the room of one of the Mansion's researchers. Check the strange insect display next to the door to find a switch: press it to drain the fish tank's water; go behind the fish tank and push it to the right, then push the large wardrobe to the right to reveal a small cabinent. Open it to find a piece of the Moon Crest and exit the room (you can also find some Ink Ribbons on the coat rack and the Researcher's Will on the desk). Run forward and enter the opposite door, going past the two nearby zombies. Inside here, take the Lighter on top of the shelf and a nice box of Shotgun Shells to the right of the second bed. There's also a Red Herb to the left of the first bed, but other than that, just exit the room and immediately go through the door on the left to get back to the hallway.

More Dark Hallways[edit]

Jill (all versions)[edit]

Back to Jill: immediately kill the oncoming zombie with your Beretta. Walk forward until the camera angle changes to see another zombie behind a corner. Lure him out and finish him off with your Beretta. Once both zombies are down, exit the room via the blue door (Rebirth and Director's Cut players will encounter an additional zombie). In here, kill the zombie up ahead and open the door underneath the staircase (Rebirth and Director's Cut players will once again encounter an additional zombie- there's also a Green Herb next to the staircase). Inside is your first real safe room, where you'll find a nice item box and typewriter; walk up to the item box and drop off the Combat Knife, Green Herbs and First Aid Spray (it is also recommended you drop off the Shotgun) and then take the two Beretta Clips from inside (Rebirth players will find sixty handgun bullets, twenty-eight Shotgun Shells, and a Red, Green, and Blue Herb). Regular Jill players can also take the Chemical (the white bag next to the item box) and place it inside their item box. Rebirth players will also encounter a blue item box puzzle; to solve it:

  • Replace green circle and yellow ring with red circle and green ring.
  • Replace yellow circle and red ring with red circle and yellow ring.
  • Replace blue circle and pink ring with the pink circle and blue ring.

Your reward will be a single Red Herb. Other than that, save your game if you'd like, exit the room, and ascend the stairs.

Jill will encounter two zombies at the top of the stairs, so be sure to kill both of them; when they're gone, head through the brown single door on the right-hand side and exit this room via the opposite door (there's also the Botany Book on the small table). Now onto another hallway: kill the zombie waiting here, turn the next two corners, and kill the lurking zombie (Rebirth and Director's Cut players will have to face an additional zombie), then open the door at the end of the hallway. This leads back to the second floor of the Main Hall, where you'll encounter Barry, who gives you a nice pair of Acid Rounds; once the cutscene is over, head through the door next to the one you just exited: open the door at the end of this hallway, take the Bazooka on the balcony, and return back to the second floor of the Main Hall.Rebirth players will have to face the actual corpse, who comes to life shortly after. Once you're back in the Main Hall, exit it via the double doors on the opposite side (except Director's Cut players, who must go through the door next to the one they just exited).

Chris (Original and Rebirth)[edit]

Chris players will also be inside their first safe room, where you'll meet Rebecca Chambers, a fellow S.T.A.R.S. member who is on Bravo Team. Walk up to the item box next to Rebecca and drop off your Combat Knife, First Aid Spray, Small Key, and your Ink Ribbons (only if you don't plan on saving the game at the nearby typewriter). Take the two Beretta Clips from the Item Box and combine them with your other Clips to save inventory space (Rebirth players will instead find thirty handgun bullets and fourteen Shotgun Shells). Walk up to the bed in the corner and pick up the shining Sword Key and keep it in your inventory. You can save your game at the typewriter that's on the table, but make sure you drop off your Ink Ribbons once you do. Rebirth players will also encounter a blue item box puzzle; to solve it:

  • Replace red circle and pink ring with pink circle and red ring.
  • Replace green circle and blue ring with yellow circle and green ring.
  • Replace blue circle and yellow ring with yellow circle and blue ring.

Your reward will be a box of Shotgun Shells. Exit once you're done with everything. (You'll also be prompted to have Rebecca stay in the room or leave it: select yes if you would like the good endings or no if you would like the bad ending.)

For Chris, run all the way down the hallway and kill the zombie in the third corridor; exit this hallway via the door at the very end. For Rebirth players, you may or may not have triggered the Cerberus to come through the window, but if you did, make sure you hold down the R-trigger and shoot until it is dead. If you didn't, just turn the corner and you will. Once this canine is down, keep running down the hallway. You'll see a "corpse" on the ground, although it's not really dead. Meanwhile, Director's Cut (Chris) players will have the option of opening the blue door at the left end of the hallway (dispatching the nearby zombie at the intersection before doing so) in order to start a fire in the fireplace (with the Lighter) for the Second Floor Map. Also in this room is a handy Green Herb next to the fireplace which goes together with the Red Herb from before quite well. Whether or not you went to the room, you still must go down the staircase and into the nearby safe room under the stairs and drop off a couple of items. Run up to the item box and deposit the Moon Crest piece, Shotgun Shells, and Lighter; once you do, head back up the stairs, turn right and go through the door at the very end of the hallway. In here, turn the corner and open the double green doors; when you enter, walk over to the first brown statue you see and push this statue until it is over the small opening in front of the door. Run to the other side of the room and push the next statue over the other small opening in front of the chest. Then walk up to the red switch in the middle of the room (it's on the floor) and press it to release the chest's lock. Walk up to the chest, take the Emblem and exit the room.

Director's Cut (Chris) players must now turn right and open the door at the very end of the hallway, which leads back to the second floor of the Main Hall. From here go through the double doors on the opposite side, and be sure to kill the zombie that comes from your right as soon as you enter. When he's gone, run over to the statue and kill the zombie that's waiting near it; after he's dead, push the statue forward until it's in front of the destroyed part of the railing, then push it off. Run to the opposite side afterwards and open the single door: upon entry, quickly kill the zombie to your left and the one around the next corner. Finish off the remaining zombie and then descend the central staircase. Down here, run to the area behind the stairs and quickly open the nearby door, where you'll then meet Rebecca Chambers, a member of the S.T.A.R.S. Bravo Team. After the cutscene, go up to the item box, take the Lighter, and drop off the Emblem. (You'll also be prompted to have Rebecca stay in the room or leave it: Select yes if you would like the good endings or no if you would like the bad ending.) After you do, retrace your steps back to the second floor of the Main Hall and go through the single door opposite the double doors: In here, open the single door that's directly in front of you.

Director's Cut (Jill)[edit]

Like Director's Cut (Chris), Director's Cut (Jill) branches off of the other two scenarios. Once you're in the hallway, turn the corner and head through the double green doors; when you enter, walk over to the first brown statue you see and push this statue until it is over the small opening in front of the door. Run to the other side of the room and push the next statue over the other small opening in front of the chest. Then walk up to the red switch in the middle of the room (it's on the floor) and press it to release the chest's lock. Walk up to the chest, take the Emblem and exit the room. Go back into the Main Hall, descend the staircase, and open the double blue doors on Jill's left: go back into the single brown door in the corner and open the door at the very end of this hallway. Now open the brown metal door in front of you and turn the next corner: immediately kill the Cerberus that jumps over the fence and then take the Chemical from the ground (it's the white bag) and the optional four Green Herbs nearby; once you do, exit the room (don't bother with the Cerberus that jumps up ahead, just exit the room quickly).

Four Crests[edit]

Jill (Original and Rebirth)[edit]

Jill players will have to immediately kill the zombie to the right with the Beretta. Run to the left side of the room and stay behind the statue. Kill the zombie waiting behind the statue; once it is, push the blue statue forward until it is behind the destroyed part of the railing. Go to the left of the statue and push it forward so it falls off of the balcony. After you do this, run to the other side of the Dining Room 2F and exit via the single brown door in the corner. (Note: Rebirth players will have to deal with an annoying crow which can be killed with the Beretta easily and another zombie on the other side, which can also be stabbed from behind the statue.) Now in a yellow hallway, turn the corner to see three zombies: kill the first one with your Beretta and finish off the other two from behind the railing. If they get close, run back to the door and shoot them from there. When all of them are dead, go down the staircase that's in the center of the room (Rebirth players will once again have to deal with an annoying crow, so be sure to kill it before the zombies). Now back on the first floor, kill the zombie in front of you and go to the area behind the staircase. Finish off this wandering zombie and open the nearby door; Rebirth players will instead have to deal with Cerberus dogs, so be sure to immediately run to the door next to the staircase and not even bother with them (for now).

For Chris, immediately kill the oncoming zombie with your Beretta. Take a right and run down the hallway until the camera angle changes. Slowly walk up to the zombie at the intersection to get his attention, and quickly run back once you do. Kill this zombie and go back to the intersection the zombie was at. Run all the way down the hallway and go through the single brown door that's to the right (Rebirth players will encounter an additional zombie). Inside this small bedroom, take the Beretta Clip that's sitting on the bed and go to the opposite side of the room: investigate the desk and a zombie will suddenly come from the closet behind you... kill him quickly and take the box of Shotgun Shells from the closet floor and the Keeper's Diary on the desk. Afterwards, exit the room, turn right, and open the door at the end of the hallway. You're back in the Tea Room, so go through the opposite door to reach the Dining Room. In here, run to the other side of the table and take the Blue Jewel from the statue remains and re-enter the Tea Room; head back to the previous hallway and open the door in the secluded corridor: place the Blue Jewel into the tiger statue, which then reveals the first crest you will receive, the Wind Crest. Take it and exit the room.

Chris players must now take a right at the intersection and head through the single brown door in the corner. Run down the hallway until you reach the door next to the staircase: Open it and drop off the Shotgun Shells and Wind Crest in the item box, then retrace your steps back to the previous hallway. In here, turn right and go through the door that's at the very end of the hallway. Now you're back in the Tea Room, so turn to the left and head through the red door that's at the very end of the hallway. Run to the other side of the bar and go up to the large brown shelf that's blocking the shelf behind it. Push the large brown shelf to the right to reveal the Music Notes.

Take them and run back to the grand piano in the center of the room. Stand in front of it and use the Music Notes (by going into your inventory, selecting the Music Notes, and then selecting use). Chris can't read music, so he can't play the song. Luckily Rebecca comes in and has some hope of playing the song, but she'll need practice. Say yes when she asks if she can practice. We'll come back here later on in the game, so just leave the room once the cutscene is over. Now run back down the hallway and re-enter the Dining Room (it's the last door on the opposite side of the hallway) and go back into the Main Hall from there (by opening the double doors on the other side of the table). From here, go through the double blue doors on the opposite side.

Director's Cut (Chris)[edit]

Back to Director's Cut (Chris): Turn the corner to find a fallen comrade who's been dead for awhile. There are two optional Green Herbs in the small alcove nearby and a Beretta Clip on the corpse. Other than that, exit the room via the opposite door: Once inside, immediately kill the two zombies next to you and go through the single door around the corner. In here, walk up to the table (there's some nearby Ink Ribbons too) and light the candles with your Lighter; investigate the large bureau in the corner to find another Clip and then push the shelf next to the candles to the right to reveal a small room. Go inside, take the Sword Key from the shelf, and exit the room. Go back to the second floor of the main hall and descend the staircase; head through the double brown doors on the west side and then go through the single door on the opposite side.

Turn to the right and open the red door at the very end of the hallway: Run to the other side of the bar and go up to the large brown shelf that's blocking the shelf behind it. Push the large brown shelf to the right to reveal the Music Notes. Take them and run back to the grand piano in the center of the room. Stand in front of it and use the Music Notes (by going into your inventory, selecting the Music Notes, and then selecting use). Chris can't read music, so he can't play the song. Luckily Rebecca comes in and has some hope of playing the song, but she'll need practice. Say yes when she asks if she can practice. We'll come back here later on in the game, so just leave the room once the cutscene is over.
