iOS in system browser
With the number of "app" based games out there, I think that we're probably going to get a fair number of people looking for iOS game guides.  Perhaps it's time to replace an older system with it?  I'm thinking we replace either PSP or Xbox. -- Prod (Talk) 01:11, 5 February 2011 (UTC)
:I wouldn't get rid of PSP or DS right now, as they're basically the entire handheld market and both are coming out with new systems shortly. I would get rid of PlayStation 2, GameCube, GBA and Xbox and replace them with PSN, XBLA and "Apps" or "Mobile" or "iOS" or whatever category is a superset of all the phone games. — <span style="color:#909090">najzere</span><span style="color:#993300">T</span> 10:44, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

::I actually suggested PSP and Xbox because they get the least amount of traffic.  I wouldn't want to remove DS even when the 3DS comes out because it's still quite a popular system.  As for superset of mobile games, I don't believe there is one.  iOS, webOS, Android and Windows Phone 7 are all separate (just like Windows/Mac).  We'll probably just have to include the most important one and let the rest fall under "other".  I repointed the system browser to the actual category pages so we can get some consolidated info about which category pages are actually getting the most traffic.  However, xbox and psp are certain to show up near the bottom.  I believe gamecube was the 3rd lowest.
::Perhaps we should have a row of text links below with the less popular systems? -- Prod (Talk) 16:59, 5 February 2011 (UTC)
:::Here's some hard facts.  Based on these numbers, I'd suggest we drop Xbox and PSP and for now only replace with Mobile (the superset).  When the new handheld consoles come out we can add the as well, perhaps dropping ps2/gc. I know it's been discussed a few times, but I can't remember the outcome of whether psn/xbla are considered distributors or systems.  -- Prod (Talk) 08:22, 15 February 2011 (UTC)
::::Just wondering, do those numbers take into account the number of pages/guides we have for each system? If not, they're more indicative of the site traffic distribution rather than which platform is most popular with viewers of the main page. I'd be interested to see the number of clicks on the system browser per platform, although that's likely untracked. No harm in using the numbers you've posted and going with your solution, the question has just piqued my curiosity.
::::As far as XBLA/PSN, the outcome of the last discussion was they are distributors. — <span style="color:#909090">najzere</span><span style="color:#993300">T</span> 08:33, 16 February 2011 (UTC)
:It doesn't, but the day after I made the change in the system browsers there was overall a 20% jump in traffic to category pages (when tracking by url rather than page name).  What do you think of having a 2nd row of text only links? -- Prod (Talk) 00:42, 19 February 2011 (UTC)
