I think I'm going to bow out of the competition for this time around, but it's just because I have too many guides I want to work on right now that are partially started. In fact, I've been staying out of IRC for the most part lately for the same reason. Hey Melon, I had a new idea for a competition (maybe the next one in July can be this way): each person starts a guide like normal, but they have to try and do their best with a guide for a game that they've never played nor have access to. What I mean is, they would have to search online and research the game using a pre-existing walkthrough and do everything that way. The problem with alphabetizing is there are too many characters on the page. I've mentioned before that there is no need to catalogue every single character in the game, but with over 100 dogs on the page it seemed prudent to break them up into meaningful sections. We could use {{t|alphabetTOC}}, but I'd be more in favor of just removing most of the characters from the page.

If it is too large, combine sections or change the layout to a table, remove excess information and include only what is pertinent (location(s), rewards/quests/items related to them, etc.). If you're following the walkthrough you'll know where they are, and I'm pretty sure their locations are noted on the auxiliary pages as well. Other than where to find them, there's not much else except fluff like pictures and descriptions. The toc is a nightmare, so I'm all for cutting down the size of the page so it's unnecessary. I think NMH is right about a table format as well, as with shorter descriptions the name, picture, location and description could lend themselves well to table format. Hey, you probably saw I edited your template to make the date stay as the date you put the template on the talk page instead of just the current date. I also changed the the color of the date to red from scarlet, because I wasn't sure if that's a good color code or not (the date showed up as black in Firefox). So anyway, if it was showing the correct color for you in IE, then you'll need to find a close color in hex if you want everyone to see it. I'm not sure what your idea of scarlet is, but [[wp:Scarlet (color)|here are some examples]]. The hexidecimal code is the one bolded and beginning with a hash symbol. Okay, this is my [http://img182.imageshack.us/img182/6206/greenmeadowslabels.jpg final draft] of the map itself. I toned down the scan lines, swapped the brown for dark green (like in the actual map) and added effect to the water. I put some sample labels on there for some input as to what looks best. There's a bunch of different bug location labels, and I tried out a few styles of displaying items. Thanks for your feedback ("[[User talk:Skierpage#Consolidate your edits]]"), but I disagree.  Surely it's far easier to identify and review a specific edit with a great comment like "→Boo's Mansion:  all red coins, the yellow and green platforms)" than an amorphous "Made changes" that covers dozens of changes.

you know you can always select a range of edits and compare the start and end versions to get the same effect?

Everything I've read about version control systems suggests a check-in for each change is less prone to error, easier to review, easier to revert.
If you're complaining that lots of edits fills up "Recent changes" and "User contributions", I agree; MediaWiki should generate HTML that collapses those into "Super Mario 63/Walkthrough Skierpage : seven edits [+]".  You could file enhancement bugs for what will make patrolling easier at http://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/
