Controls[edit]

Arch Rivals control panel.jpg
  • Joystick: Use the 49-way analogue joystick to direct your chosen player around the court; this is the same type of joystick Williams used for Sinistar.
  • Pass/Punch Buttons: Use these buttons to make your player pass the ball to his CPU-controlled team mate, and punch out at the opposing players.
  • Shoot/Block Button: Use this to shoot the basketball to the opposing hoop, and block the ball from the opposing team from shooting it to the basket on your team's side.
  • 1 or 2 Player Buttons: Push these buttons to begin a 1 or 2 player game.

Characters[edit]

This game features eight different selectable characters and they all have a unique characteristic; their heads and characteristics are shown in the table.

Head Name Coach's Notes
AR Tyrone Head.png Tyrone Defensive giant
AR Vinnie Head.png Vinnie A great player
AR Hammer Head.png Hammer Rebound king
AR Moose Head.png Moose A real champ
AR Lewis Head.png Lewis Top shooter
AR Blade Head.png Blade A crowd pleaser
AR Mohawk Head.png Mohawk Tough & mean
AR Reggie Head.png Reggie All-American

Two teams will be randomly selected as soon as a player inserts a coin, and can be changed by pressing the Punch Button; the default team names are Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Denver, Natural High and Brawl State, but arcade operators could change them, and the players' outfits, to anything if the "Team Names" dipswitch was set to "Hometown Heroes". Player 1 must take control of the home team, while Player 2 must take control of the away team - but if only one player is playing, the away team will be controlled by the CPU. Now you know the players, it's time to move on to the Walkthrough.
