Primary Weapons[edit]

One of four primary weapons is always equipped and may be fired with II button.

Item Weapon Name Description
Gunhed-photon blasters.png Photon Blasters Your basic bullet like projectile weapon.
Gunhed-disruptor wave.png Disruptor Wave Rapid-fire weapon that shoots wide, blue energy waves.
Gunhed-field thunder.png Field Thunder Fires powerful lightning beams.
Gunhed-ring blaster.png Ring Blaster The same bullets as weapon I, but includes protective rings which circle your ship and can stop enemy bullets.

Secondary Weapons[edit]

Secondary weapons add extra offensive and defensive capabilities to your ship. You may only have one in your possession at any given time, though some may be powered up by collecting the same icon more than once in a row.

Item Weapon Name Description
Gunhed-full fire.png Full Fire Increases the attack power of your primary guns. Photon Blasters become a powerful, comet-like shot that shatters into smaller bullets upon impact. Doubles the number of waves in each stream of fire for Disruptor Wave. Field Thunder becomes a homing weapon with only one beam on screen at a time. Enhances Ring Blaster with deadly spinning rings that fire forward.
Gunhed-homing missile.png Homing Missile When combined with Photon Blasters it fires eight missiles that home in on enemies. With other primary weapons it shoots four. Can be powered up four times, each time making the missiles fly faster.
Gunhed-multi-body.png Multi-body Gradius-like options that follow your ship and fire the same weapon as your primary guns. Maximum of two. Collecting a third multi-body icon will enhance the power of your multi-bodies, signified by them turning from blue to green. Normally, all objects pass through blue multi-bodies, however, when green they can damage enemies and even block bullets. This effect lasts until the end of the current level.
Gunhed-shield.png Shield A temporary impenetrable barrier that protects your ship from all attacks. Lasts about three minutes—or less depending on the amount of damage it absorbs.

Bombs[edit]

There is no unique item pickup for bombs in the game. In order to increase your bomb count you must pick up one of the four secondary weapon icons. Moreover, it must be the secondary weapon you are currently using. You can hold a maximum of 16 bombs.

Orbs[edit]

Item Name Description
Gunhed-purple orb.png Purple Orb Collect these purple orbs to increase the power level (which starts at 1) of your primary weapons. Here is a table for the number of orbs needed per weapon level:
Weapon Level 2 3 4 5 6 7
Number of purple orbs needed 1 2 4 8 12 16
Gunhed-flashing orb.png Flashing Orb Perhaps the most important item in the game. Certain enemies drop items that rotate through the icons for either the primary or secondary weapons. Letting these reach the bottom of the screen or shooting them many times turns them into flashing orbs. Normally, when killed the player must start over at some predetermined spot in the level. However, for each flashing orb collected the player's ship reappears immediately and level continues uninterrupted. Flashing orbs also have an ancillary bomb effect which clears the screen of most objects.
