To get a Digimon to join your team you must bribe them into liking you. This is done by giving them gifts. Stronger Digimon will be harder to persuade and may require stronger and/or multiple items.

Gifts are items that are used on enemy Digimon before battle. If given gifts, a Digimon may offer to join your team once defeated in battle. The specific Digimon that will offer to join your team will always be the last one killed. Multiple gifts can be used on the same Digimon to further improve the chances of them offering to join. Stronger gifts have a stronger influence.

In the beginning of the game the only locations you can buy gifts will be your Guard Team's Headquarters.
