Geoguessr/Gameplay

The goal of Geoguessr is to correctly locate a random location using only clues provided via Google street view images. Players can pan the camera, zoom in or out, and move around throughout the world to explore with the goal of pinpointing the initial location on a world map in the bottom right corner.

When the player has an idea of the location shown, they can use the map in the lower right corner to navigate to where they think they are. Clicking will drop a pin in the map, and players will be prompted to guess this location. The point can be moved any number of times before a guess is made, but if the time runs out, the current chosen point will be submitted as a guess. If no point is chosen, the default guess is the middle of the map in the Pacific Ocean.

When the player guesses, the true location will be shown on the minimap as well as the players guess and how far away the two points are. Based on the distance between their guess and the actual location, players will gain experience points toward higher rankings and can earn badges if specific goals are met.

In addition to single player, Geoguessr includes a variety of other game modes:

• Battle Royale — Players compete against each other to determine a location before the timer runs out. Generally played with a larger group, rounds will continue, eliminating the player who guessed furthest until only one player remains.
• Duel — Similar to the Battle Royale mode, two players compete to guess the locations within a set time limit. In each round, both players receive a score based on distance from the actual location that translates to points deducted from a total "health" until one player's health is reduced to zero.
• Daily Challenge — Once per day, players are given a special challenge. It can only be attempted once, but can give special rewards if they are completed.
• Streaks — Instaed of guessing closest to the correct location, the goal of this mode is to simply guess the correct country or US state correctly. Each correct guess will add to the streak, and rounds will continue until the player makes an incorrect guess.
