When starting, you will be faced with the three starting Pokémon from the original series of games, Bulbasaur, Squirtle, and Charmander. However, if you walk away from these three starters four times, Pikachu will span allowing you to catch him as your starter. This has no impact to the game, since all four Pokémon can be caught normally through exploration.
