Controls[edit]

  • Trackball: Use the trackball to direct Outback Jack around the rooms; it is possible for the player to direct him into bottomless pits, and onto buttons.
  • Whip Joystick: Use the 4-way joystick to make Outback Jack crack his whip in the direction it is pushed; dust kicks up at the spot it comes down on.
  • Alaron Button: During Waves 15-28, push this button to use the protective powers of the Golden Amulet of Alaron; it will not protect from everything.
  • 1 or 2 Player Buttons: Push these buttons to begin a 1 or 2 player game.

Characters[edit]

Outback Jack[edit]

This Indiana Jones-like adventurer is the protagonist of this game; you must direct him around each room using your trackball, and use the 4-way joystick to make him crack his whip at the various creatures which enter the rooms through the holes in the walls to kill them. If he is hit by any of the creatures, he shall transform into a statue and crumble to the ground, costing him a life - however, he will receive an extra life, for every 10,000 points scored. In some rooms, it is also possible for him to die by falling down bottomless pits, getting hit by shurikens that fly out of the holes in the walls (after standing on the buttons that set them off) and getting hit by lasers fired by statues from their eyes.

Snakes[edit]

The main foes come in four different colours; Purple (25 points), Pink (50 points), Orange (100 points) and Blue (400 points).

Spiders[edit]

The secondary foes first appear on Wave 4, and can jump up into the air; they can only be whipped while on the ground and are worth 500 points.

Scorpions[edit]

The "boss" foes only appear on Waves 5 and 10; the Giant ones (left) may only be whipped on their flashing dots, and are worth 1000 points, but when you do so, they will explode into three Baby ones (right), which can move much faster and are worth 500 points each.

Treasure Chest[edit]

This possessed box appears on Wave 14, and will dance around the room as the four statues in the corners fire lasers at Outback Jack from their eyes; once you have whipped it, it shall stop dancing and open to reveal the Golden Amulet of Alaron. For the next fourteen waves, you can press the Alaron Button once per wave to use the amulet's protective powers - however, it will not protect from falling down a bottomless pit or getting hit by a shuriken. Now you have been familiarized with the game's control system and characters, it is time to move on to the Walkthrough.
