When it comes to this rival battle, you have to deplete shadow's rings to 0 and hit him again to finish him. But homing attacks are not suggested. Instead this purple thing will fly around in the looping course. You have to collect that two times to perform a powerful attack. But shadow can collect it too and perform his power attack. While your running around to collect the purple object, you have to boost. Shadow, though, can also boost and beat you to it. If you and shadow collide while boosting as well, a shang sound will play, and you two will separate from each other forcefully, slowing your efforts or shadows efforts of getting to the purple object. Here is your special attack: sonic turns into a super fast hedgehog, but not too fast, in efforts of boosting into shadow and defeating him. This depletes your boost gauge slowly, and note there is no way to replenish it. Instead hit the upcoming meteorites to effectively slow shadow down to defeat him. Once your close to him, charge into him. His rings will be depleting slow at first, but you'll get so close that his rings will be gone like none other. Once there all gone, shadow will launch in the air, and be knocked out, meaning you beaten him. Here's shadow's attack: Chaos Control. He'll launch some spears at the ground, and act like spikes. They're easy to dodge, as long as you use the bumpers to dodge. However, he just won't just place some easy to dodge spears and he's done. He'll do some type of fireball attack as a last ditch effort to stop you, but this is also easy to dodge as long as you don't just stay in the attacks way. In other words, sonics super attack is the only way to defeat shadow. If you win, you'll get another chaos emerald, and the chance to try it on hard mode.
