• Eggman: Clear the Babylon Rouges' story.
• Cream: Clear Team Sonic's story.
• Rouge: Clear Team Sonic's story.
• Shadow: Clear Team Sonic's story.
• Silver: Clear the Babylon Rogues' story.
• Blaze: Clear the Babylon Rogues' story.
• NiGHTS: Clear all missions in Story Mode.
• Amigo: Clear all missions in Story Mode.
• Billy: Clear all missions in Story Mode.
• SCR-HD: Come in 1st in a race against SCR-HD. SCR-HD appears randomly, so it's good to do this when you first start the game up; when there are less characters and you have a higher chance to unlock the robot.
• SCR-GP: Clear the Babylon Rogues' story.
• Super Sonic: Select the Chaos Emerald gear as Sonic. As the Chaos Emerald board is unlockable, and Super Sonic is considered just Sonic with the Chaos Emerald board in game, see below on how to on how to unlock the board.

Note – Once the gear is unlocked, it's yours. In other words, the gear will not have to be bought from the Shop upon unlocking.

• Magic Broom (Yacht): Clear Team Sonic's story (includes Missions).
• Angel Whisperer/Devil Whisperer (Air Ride): Clear the Babylon Rogues' story (includes Missions).
• MAG (Board): Clear all missions in Story Mode.
• Chaos Emerald (Board): Clear all missions in Story Mode with "Extreme" ranking. Must be unlocked to play as Super Sonic.
