Shields are a fairly basic concept to go with. They function like an armor, but doesn't need to be repaired unless you choose to recharge it at an energy well. It has a set max, and it recharges itself every 6 minutes at the AP tick. It will then increase the amount of shield power by it's recharge rate*10. For pilots outside of the union, you have a fairly limited shield choice and what you'll want to do is fit in a shield without compromising your cargo space. However, the union is a specialist in shields and has a huge variety. It's shields have a better cargo to protection ratio, recharge faster, and can take more damage. Normally, the Q-standard shield is used since it provides decent protection and recharges fast, but when the pilot is in a much bigger ship such as a [[Pardus/Ships#Scorpion|scorpion]] or a [[Pardus/Ships#Liberator|liberator]], you'll opt for some of the bigger shields.
