Controls[edit]

  • Steering Wheel: Use the steering wheel to direct your chosen character's car left and right, just as you would any real car; if you are using MAME to play the game this is replicated by the left and right arrow keys (you can also adjust the wheel's sensitivity in the emulator's "Analog Controls" menu).
  • Gas Pedal: Step on the gas pedal to accelerate your chosen character's car; for MAME, this is replicated by  Ctrl , but you may wish to change it to the up arrow key. Unlike in any of the earlier racing games from Namco's Japanese division this game does not have a break pedal or a gear shifter.
  • Start/Jump Button: Push this button to start the game, and make your chosen character's car jump over obstacles or other players' cars; in MAME, this is replicated by  Space  (but you may wish to change it to  Ctrl ). If your car fails to make it over a pit, a helicopter shall lower it back into play.
  • Weapon Buttons: Push these buttons to use an instance of your chosen character's car's primary, secondary or tertiary weapon (if one of them has run out its button will have no effect until you pass a checkpoint); in MAME, these are replicated by  Z ,  X  and  C , but you may wish to change them to  Alt ,  Space  and  Shift . Given that all five characters' cars have different weapons, you should choose the one that works best for you.
