Kayaking is a timed event, where you need to go through 15 gates in order. Unlike Rowing, there is a current that pushes you along the course.

There are three gates:

  • Normal gates have a red marker on the left. You need to travel through them facing forwards.
  • Reverse gates have a yellow marker. Travel through them facing backwards.
  • Upstream gates have the red marker on the right. Travel through them while paddling upstream, and turn around the marker before continuing on the course.

Pressing the joystick forward will cause a forward paddle, while pulling it back causes a backward paddle. You can turn left or right with the appropriate joystick movement as well.

There is a 20 second penalty if you miss a gate, pass through the gate more than once, or pass through the gate in the wrong direction.

The world record is 1 minute, 57 seconds. The course can be completed in less time, but any time penalties will make it unlikely that you will beat the record.
