Controls[edit]

  • Neutral dpad: Use the direction pad to pilot the Solvalou in any one of eight directions. The Solvalou scrolls forward across the ground automatically, but you can direct the Solvalou virtually everywhere but the very top of the visual screen.
  • B button: Press the B button to fire the Solvalou's Zapper. The Solvalou has a double shot Zapper gun that destroys nearly every enemy in one shot. You can continue to fire multiple shots on to the screen at one time.
  • A button: As the Solvalou flies over the ground, a reticule appears a short distance in front of the ship. When you tap the A button, the reticule brackets disappear and a stationary cross shows where the bomb will land.
  • Start button: Press Start to begin the game, or pause the action while the game is in progress.
  • Select button: Not used.

Characters[edit]

Solvalou[edit]

You pilot the Solvalou, earth's only weapon against the invading Gamp army. The Solvalou has two weapon systems, the air-to-air Zapper, and the air-to-ground bombs. It has an unlimited supply of either weapon. According to the Xevi language, "Sol" means the sun and "Valou" (or baru as it is pronounced in Japanese) means bird, so the Solvalou roughly translates to "Sun-bird".

Phantom[edit]

Super Xevious Phantom.png

The Phantom is a support ship to the Solvalou which must be rescued first before it can provide you with power-ups. After you have rescued the Phantom in Area 2 and released it at the start of Area 3, it will begin to appear in the lower corner of the screen closest to the Solvalou, and fly diagonally to the opposite side of the screen. Once it is approximately three quarters of the way across, it will dispense three colored balls. You may collect as many as you can capture. It is possible to collect all three balls if you position the Solvalou directly behind the Phantom when the balls are dispensed. Each ball provides the Solvalou with a different power-up.

Ball color Description
BARRIER A shield will absorb one shot, multiple barriers can be stored.
WIDE BLASTER Increases the size of your bomb reticule, and the radius of your bomb blasts.
BACK ZAPPER Your Zapper will simultaneous fire forwards and backwards.

Super Zapper[edit]

The Super Zapper is a rare power-up that can only be found in a secret alternate to area 13. If you skip the first exit of Area 12 and continue to travel to the second exit, you will be granted access to this special area where the Super Zapper will appear. To collect it, you need only fly into it. The Solvalou will change very slightly in appearance (as shown to the right) to indicate its possession. Once collected, you will have the ability to destroy a particularly troublesome enemy known as the Bacura, which are typically indestructible walls. Once you collect it, you will keep it until the end of the game.

Passwords[edit]

Super Xevious has a password system. If you pause the game at the very start of certain areas, you will see a four digit number. To enter a password and access a particular stage, you must first start a new game. After the game begins, pause the game, and enter:

Up dpad Down dpad Left dpad Right dpad A button B button

A password screen will appear. Press A button or B button to change the digits, and press Left dpad or Right dpad to change which digit is controlled. Enter the correct password and press Start button to begin on the new stage. The acceptible passwords are as follows:
