The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom shares many game mechanics in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. In addition to the surface of Hyrule, you can now explore the sky and depths.

Purah Pad[edit]

The Purah Pad records information on your adventure and can be accessed by pressing Minus button. It functions like the Sheikah Slate in Breath of the Wild.

Equipment[edit]

Link can equip a weapon, shield, and bow. Using the Fuse ability, they can be enhanced with a material. Equipment will eventually break when used enough times. There will be a warning and the icon in the menu will flash red when it is badly damaged. There are a limited number of slots available for each equipment type, but more can be unlocked by giving Korok Seeds to Hestu.

Link can also equip three pieces of armor. Armor does not break and they can be enhanced by Great Fairies with the required materials and rupees for labor. Some armor form a set and provide a set bonus when all pieces are equipped.

Shrines[edit]

Shrines act as waypoints and feature a challenge involving abilities and techniques. Reaching the end will reward a Light of Blessing. Some shrines require completing a quest in order to reveal them.

Rupees[edit]

Rupees are the main currency used for purchasing and selling items.
