Nomads (Acha アチャ)[edit]

Nomads are you chief humanoid opponent throughout the game. They start out simple, but as you progress through the game, you meet new types of nomads that have learned a new trick or two. Pay attention to their appearance in order to tell them apart.

Orange Green
Legendary Axe enemy nomad a.png
Orange nomads are the first type that you will meet. They are very basic and meek fighters. They don't know any other method of fighting then simply walking up to you and swinging their axe. They're also not particularly fast, and are defeated rather easily.
Legendary Axe enemy nomad b.png
Green nomads are a step up from their orange cousins in that they know how to jump. They will leap around in an effort to collide with you and do damage. If they are struck by an attack that does not kill them, they will backflip away from another chance to fight you.
Purple Blue
Legendary Axe enemy nomad c.png
In addition to leaping like green nomads, these blue-skinned nomads clad in purple know how to throw their axe. Not only can they throw them, but they can throw them high or low. Although you can defend yourself by swatting their axe out of the air with your own, you must be prepared for this extra attack which may come from any direction.
Legendary Axe enemy nomad d.png
The blue nomads like to leap around, and aren't terribly different from green nomads. The biggest difference is that they are a bit faster, and take more damage to defeat. They tend to team up with red nomads.
Red White
Legendary Axe enemy nomad e.png
Red nomads are the counterpart to blue nomads. While the blue nomads only ever leap, the red nomads remain crouched and low to the ground. The combination of the two can be an overwhelming threat, but the red nomads tend to be a little easier to defeat.
Legendary Axe enemy nomad f.png
White nomads are like fast, stronger versions of red nomads. They remain crouched along the ground, and dart in low to attack Gogan. They are not defeated as quickly or easily as red nomads.
Brown
Legendary Axe enemy nomad g.png
Brown nomads are the ultimate nomad. Not only have they learned to throw their axes like the blue skinned nomads, but they can throw their axes such that they boomerang back to them. Even if you dodge the initial throw, you must be careful to avoid getting struck by them on their return trip.

Other enemies[edit]

The remaining set of enemies are presented here in the order of their appearance in the game.

Vampire Bats (吸血コウモリ) Giant Tarantula (ジャイアントタランチュラ)
Legendary Axe enemy bat.png
Bats are a very basic enemy throughout the game. They don't directly attempt to attack Gogan, they simply fly through the air and interfere with him if he doesn't strike them down or get out of their way.
Legendary Axe enemy spider.png
Giant Spiders are like a mini-boss in the two stages where they appear. They only move up and down, never left or right. They spit out a spread of webbing as an attack. As you strike them, pairs of legs break off until they're all removed and the spider is defeated. When they are defeated, they typically leave behind rather valuable items.
Demon Giant (Maneki Bear マネキグマ) Amoeba (Ultra-Iguana ウルトライグアナ)
Legendary Axe enemy bear.png
A pair of powerful bears appear as the boss of the first zone. After that, they appear sometimes as normal enemies. They are simple enemies that walk forward swinging their claws around. When you strike them with your weapon, they rear back and then leap forward in an attempt to pounce on you.
Legendary Axe enemy lizard.png
Lizards are peculiar enemies that drop down from cavern ceilings to attack by spitting a projectile at you. They either land on their tail and spit a projectile high, or land on their front paws and perform a head stand while spitting a projectile low. Then they leap over your head and repeat the performance. When stuck by your axe, they hop up in the air, making it easy to stay in one place and strike them continuously until they are defeated.
Fireballs Poisonous Moths (Mothra ドクドクモスラ)
Legendary Axe enemy fireball.png
Fireballs are jets of flame that shoot straight up out of lava. They tend to appear when you are forced to leap over a gap between platforms. Watch their movement and time your jump over the gap when they are on their way down.
Legendary Axe enemy moth.png
Moths aren't very different from bats. They have a slightly different flight pattern, but for the most part, they fly in a straight direction and only attack if you happen to run into them without defeating them first. Unlike bats, they have a tendency to appear more frequently at heights that you actually walk through.
Giant Boulders Rock Man (ロックマン)
Legendary Axe enemy boulder.png
Boulders are giant inanimate objects that roll back and forth on the screen. You will first encounter a pair of them as the boss of the second zone, but they will appear from time to time throughout the rest of the game. Their color indicates how close they are to shattering. Hit them with the strongest attacks you can, and then do your best to get out of their way.
Legendary Axe enemy golem.png
Like boulders, golems are made out of rock. Unlike boulders, golems are quite animated. When you get close to one, they leap up into the air, and then lurch forward to attack. Their only attack consists of a high chop in the air, which means you can squat down to avoid taking any damage while you attack them from a crouching position. They later appear in gray with more health.
Evil Eagles (エビルイーグル) Gray Bears
Legendary Axe enemy eagle.png
Eagles fly up in the sky until they decide that it's time to drop down and take a bite out of you. They remain near the top flying back and forth, and then they reach the right side of the screen and start to descend. When they are level with your head, they fly forward. When they hit you, or when you hit them, they make their way back up to the top of the screen and start over.
Legendary Axe enemy bear gray.png
Aside from the fact they have more health and take more attacks to remove, gray bears are otherwise identical to brown bears. They will appear later on in the game. Be prepared to get out of their way when the leap towards you.
Frog Men (Water Head ウォーターヘッド) Cave Man (Betsukao ベツカオ)
Legendary Axe enemy frog man.png
Frog Men tend to appear whenever there's water. They leap up out of the water, and at the peak of their jump, they spit a fireball at you that arcs through the air. Then they sink back down into the water. Killing one does not necessarily stop them from appearing. They usually appear between gaps, but they can also jump up above solid ground as well.
Legendary Axe enemy sword.png
You first meet a pair of these warriors as the boss of Zone 3. After that, they become a regular feature of later stages. They are powerful, but they're not too difficult. They tend to pace back and forth over a section of ground, and only advance once you get close enough. So you can stand apart from them until your strength meter fills up, and then approach to attack. You're typically safer if you jump in when attacking.
Rolling Armadillo (コロコロアルマジロ) Monkey (Konakijijiizaru コナキジジイザル)
Legendary Axe enemy armadillo.png
Armadillos only appear in one tiny place in the whole game. If you fall into a certain pit in Zone 4, they will race back and forth along the ground, accompanying the second Giant Spider in the game. Easy to remove, they are more of a nuisance than a threat.
Legendary Axe enemy monkey.png
Like armadillos, you will only encounter monkeys in the bottom of pits. Unlike armadillos, monkeys can do a fair amount of harm if you don't remove them quickly. They appear in groups, and try to jump up and cling to Gogan. You must shake them off and then attack them before they have a chance to grab on to you again.
Water Jets Punjabbi (Gous ゴウス)
Legendary Axe enemy water.png
Aside from being blue instead of red, water jets resemble fireballs in many ways. They fly out of water and then drop back down. However, there is one important difference between them: contact with water jets is lethal. Regardless of how much health you have, you will instantly lose your life if you are hit by these.
Legendary Axe enemy spear.png
Spear Wielders first appear as a pair of bosses at the end of Zone 4, and then appear at various point throughout Zone 5. These enemies are particular tough. They can either poke you with their spears, which has more reach than your axe, or they can throw them. They also have the ability to block your attack with their shield. Steer clear of them until you are ready to jump in and attack.
Ape Man (Arnold アーノルド) Ball Thrower (Suda スーダ)
Legendary Axe enemy ape.png
Giant apes like these appear by literally busting through a wall. They carry large rocks over their head which they try to toss at you when they get close enough. As soon as they throw one rock, another one appears in their hands. Even if you hit them, they will just keep approaching you, so be prepared to back up after you strike.
Legendary Axe enemy maiden.png
Maidens are mysterious enemies that appear inside the fortress of the fifth zone. They walk toward you holding an item, which they drop on the floor when you get close. The dropped item shatters and sends pieces bouncing around. When destroyed, they transform into bats.
Jagi (ジャギー)
Legendary Axe enemy statue.png
Statues are stationary objects which spit fiery projectiles straight ahead. When you get close enough to jump over the projectiles, they can send another burst of flame high up in an arc which will almost always hit you. Take them out as quickly as you can.
