The units in World in Conflict all have various special features. Most units have special offensive abilities which recharge after use. Examples include standard infantry with grenade launcher attack, medium tanks with fragmentation shells, heavy (main battle) tanks with HEAT shells, medium attack helicopters with anti-aircraft missiles, heavy attack helicopters with anti-tank missiles, medium artillery (mortars) with white phosphorus shells, and heavy artillery (howitzers, rocket launchers) with smoke screen shells. In addition, most units also have a defensive ability. For example, infantry are capable of sprinting, tanks can utilise smoke screens, and helicopters are equipped with countermeasures. Some defensive abilities, such as smoke screens, may be a hindrance as well as a help by allowing a unit to remain hidden but at the same time also clouding its own view.

Infantry role[edit]

The most exposed of all units, they are easy kills for virtually anything. But,thanks to their abilities of going into forests and garrisoning buildings, they are practically "glass cannons"; they can destroy everything under the right conditions, but can easily be destroyed themselves if mismanaged or caught in the open. All infantry units can sprint as a defensive special ability.

Infantry[edit]

These units are most effective against other infantry units. They are vulnerable to every unit in the game due to their low speed and small arms. They do include two riflemen, one machine gunner, one anti-tank weapon, and one Stinger missile. They have limited effectiveness against tanks and helicopters. Their offensive special ability is a barrage of 40mm grenades.

Anti-tank[edit]

These units are effective against armored vehicles and tanks. They have limited effectiveness against other infantry and helicopters. They are also slow, but their launchers are more effective now. They are composed of three anti-tank weapons and two riflemen. They have no offensive special abilities.

Sniper[edit]

They are effective against other infantry, but are generally unused due to their low speed, low rate of fire, and high vulnerability if detected. They lack an offensive special ability.

Jeep[edit]

USA-HMMWV USSR-UAZ-469 NATO-D-90

These units are useful for light infantry skirmishes and repairs. They are armed with a .50 cal machine gun, and they can carry one infantry unit. They have very weak armor, and should be kept away from direct engagements. Their special ability is a magazine of armor-piercing bullets; useful against helicopters and light armor. They can be air-dropped via the tactical aid menu.

Transport Truck[edit]

USA-M939 USSR-Ural 4320 NATO-TRM 4000

An unarmed and repair-incapable cargo truck. Cheaper than the Jeep, and can transport 2 squads of infantry units. Completely defenseless though, so escort is needed.

Engineers[edit]

This is a single rifleman that can deploy a satchel charge of C4 to deal heavy damage to a structure. It is prudent to move him to safety after doing this; he can be killed by his own handiwork.

Armor role[edit]

The Armor role lets you unleash the pain as a tank commander. With great armor and powerful guns, they can easily dominate the battlefield if left unchecked. However, if they are unescorted, they are vulnerable to many different units, such as attack helicopters and concealed infantry. All armor-role vehicles can deploy a smoke screen for comcealment, and they have machine guns for limited AA defense.

APC[edit]

USA: M2A2 Bradley USSR: BMP-2 NATO: FV510 Warrior

An armored personel carrier with balanced armor, speed and firepower. Unlike tanks, the APC can engage helicopters with its main gun. However, the vehicle suffers from having weaker armor than tanks.

Its offensive ability is launching a wire-guided missile (TOW and AT-5,USA and USSR respectively), or armor-piercing rounds (NATO).

Amphibious APC[edit]

USA: AAVP7A1 USSR: BTR-80 NATO: Luchs (not the WW2 era tank)

This vehicle trades speed, armor, and weapon power for the ability to cross deep water. All amphibious vehicles are armed with a high-caliber machine gun, which is effective against infantry and decent against helicopters. Very useful when all the bridges on the battlefield have collapsed.

Its offensive ability varies, from the Mk19 grenade launcher of the USA to HEI (High Explosive Incendiary) rounds of USSR and NATO.

Light tank[edit]

USA-M551A1 Sheridan USSR-PT-76 NATO-FV101 Scorpion

Light tanks trade armor and a little firepower for speed and low cost. Great at flanking maneuvers,if managed carefully.

Offensive capabilities include a Shilleghah Missile (USA), AT-4 Spigot missile (USSR), and HESH (High Explosive Squash Head) rounds for NATO. All are great for dealing more damage against heavy armor.

Medium tank[edit]

USA-M60A3 Patton USSR-T62 NATO-Mk5 Cheiftain

A balanced tank, good at everything, especially at infantry cleaning. More agile than the heavy tank, but not nearly as much armor as it.

Its offensive capabilities are using an anti-infantry White Phosphorous shell (USA and NATO) or Frag-High-Explosives (USSR,an oversized frag grenade).

Heavy tank[edit]

USA-M1A1 Abrams USSR-T80 U NATO-Leopard 2A4

The pinacle of armored warfare, this expensive and highly armored tank can shred other tanks. However, it is one of the slowest vehicles, and is quite vulnerable to high-damage hit-and-run attacks and heavy artillery.

Offensive capability is the HEAT (High Explosive Anti-Tank) shell which obliterates lightly armored enemies.

Air role[edit]

This role covers helicopters of most types aside from heavy transports. The air role has the best firepower and highest unit speed available to commanders. But they are very vulnerable to AAA and SAMs, even with their flares. They also are the only units that can't capture Command Points.

Heavy Attack Helicopter[edit]

USA: AH-64A Apache USSR: Mi-24 HIND NATO: A129 Mangusta

Ground attack power and speed in one package, this helicopter is well suited to attacking ground targets, thanks to its 30mm cannon and its rocket pods. Its counter-air ability is limited to its cannons.

Its offensive ability is a powerful Air To Ground missile (Hellfire,AT-6 Spiral or HOT missile,USA,USSR and NATO respectively).

Like all helicopters, its defensive ability is ejecting IR flares, causing a 75% chance a missile fired at them will miss.

Medium Attack Helicopter[edit]

USA: AH-1W Super Cobra USSR: Mi-28 Havoc NATO: SA-341 Gazelle

A stark contrast to the Heavy Helicopter, the Medium Helicopter specializes in air-to-air combat, taking out other helicopters with ease by use of missiles and cannon. It is not suited to high-intensity ground attacks, thanks to a lack of rockets or anti-tank missiles, though it can harass infantry and light armor.

It can shoot air to air missiles (AIM-9 Sidewinders, Vympel R-73s or Mistrals) at other helicopters for even more damage as its offensive ability.

Scout Helicopter[edit]

USA: OH-6A Cayuse USSR: Ka-25 Hormone NATO: BO-105 PAH-1

The fastest moving unit in the whole game, this helicopter is ideal as a spotter for artillery.

Its "offensive" ability supports this,as it does an IR Scan and find units in smoke screens, forests and the like, that would otherwise be still hidden. It can even engage infantry and light vehicles with a small amount of rockets. However, it is completely helpless against other air units.

Transport Helicopter[edit]

USA: UH-60 Blackhawk USSR: Mi-8 HIP NATO: SA-330 Super Puma

A helicopter true to its name, it is unarmed but still has flares. It can carry one infantry squad. It is ideally used for attacks behind enemy lines, and it is helpless against any counter-air units.

Support role[edit]

This role's purpose is generally to make life easier for the other roles. Support covers the use of artillery, anti-aircraft, and serious repairs. It is nearly defenseless in close quarters.

Medium artillery[edit]

USA: M1025 MCV USSR: 2S1 Gvozdika NATO: FV432 This unit is best used for long-range suppression of infantry.

Heavy artillery[edit]

USA: M270 MLRS USSR: 2S7 Pion NATO: LARS 110 SF 2 Long-ranged destruction in a convenient package; heavy shells for the USSR, and lots of rockets for USA and NATO.

Medium Anti-aircraft[edit]

USA: M163 VADS USSR: ZSU-23-4 Shilka NATO: Gepard Short-ranged, but cannot be diverted by flares. Can direct its fire against ground targets.

Heavy Anti-aircraft[edit]

USA: M48 Chaparral USSR: SA-13 "Gopher" NATO: Roland The ultimate bane of helicopters thanks to its heat-seeking missiles. Its only defense against ground units is its smoke screen.

Armored Recovery Vehicle[edit]

USA: M88A1 ARV USSR: VT-55 NATO: AAVR A medic for mechanical units. In addition to its repair-over-time, it can use a single-target high-powered emergency repair, and it can repair itself.
