=== Mysterious Tree ===
Back in the Light World, the tree that the Lumberjack Brothers were originally working on before you dealt with Agahnim has been abandoned.  The brothers commented on how unusual the tree seemed as they were cutting it.  Indeed, when you find it, it is a different color.  Since a lot of it has already been cut, it wouldn't take much to push the rest of it over.  One solid Dash Bash will do the trick.  In the stump, you will find a stairwell that leads into the ground below.  Underground, you will find another [[Image:Zelda ALttP item Piece of Heart.png]] '''Piece of Heart'''.

=== Non-Linear Gameplay ===
Although this walkthrough guides you through each of the dungeons in their numeric order, there are occasions when visiting the dungeons out of order can make the game a little easier.  This is one such occasion. After completing the second dungeon, you may opt to visit the fourth dungeon before taking on the third.  If you obtain the dungeon's treasure, the Titan's Mitt, you can embark on the quest to obtain the level 3 tempered swordWith the improved sword, you will find completing the third dungeon a little easierFor information on how to obtain the tempered sword, see the [[The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past/Ice Lake#Reunion of the Blacksmiths|Reunion of the Blacksmiths]] section of the walkthrough.

One of the most enjoyable parts of The Legend of Zelda is the non-linear aspect of game-play--i.e. the fact that many parts of this game may be explored in any order.  The dungeons themselves may also be played out of order; there are only certain items required before continuing the game.  For example, you must have obtained the Magic Hammer before you are able to access the second dungeon, but you do not have to defeat the first dungeon and obtain the first crystal before you tackle the second dungeon.

This walkthrough takes you through each of the dungeons in order, but you will find that the game is easier if you make the following changes:

After defeating the second dungeon, proceed to the entrance to the fourth dungeon, bypassing the third one entirelyFind the Big Key and capture the treasure:  The Titan's Mitt.  Then leave the dungeon and proceed south of the town to find the blacksmith's brother (he has been changed into a froglike being)Rescue him by removing one of the dark-green stones and then lead him back to his brother at the black-smith shop in the light world.  There they will offer to temper your sword.  It will take them some time to do this; use this time to wander about Hyrule and find more heart pieces or visit the rupee cave near the entrance to the desert and get enough rupees to give to the fairie to increase your bomb and arrow total.   After you have been away a while, return to the smith's shop and recover your sword.  You can then proceed to defeat the third and finish the fourth dungeon; which you will find much easier to do now!
