Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn is the second computer role-playing game of Baldur's Gate series, taking place just a few months after the events of Baldur's Gate. The game system is based on Advanced Dungeons and Dragons (AD&D) rules, a famous roleplaying system, and the game is set in Forgotten Realms, the most popular AD&D story setting.
The game was programmed in Infinity Engine, which was used in games like Icewind Dale series and Planescape:Torment.
An expansion pack for Baldur's Gate II was released in 2001, entitled Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal.
