Skills are the core of your character – rather than choosing your stats, they are determined by your skill level in certain areas. Weaving, for instance, raises your dexterity.

All skills have ranks F–A, then 9–1, with 1 being the highest and F being the lowest. Skills are categorized in three areas: Combat, Life, and Magic. Each is described in greater detail below.

Skills are ranked up using Ability Points, which are gained through completing Beginner's Quests, leveling up, or aging a year (which occurs every Saturday). The amount gained through aging depends on your character's age – older characters gain less AP. It becomes imperative therefore to pay Nexon to rebirth your characters. Rebirthing allows players to, among other things, reset their character's age and level. This allows them to gain skills faster. As of the Pioneers of Iria update, any non-pet character can reset their level and age in a free rebirth when they reach the age of 20.

Combat

Combat (Melee)

Combat skills are represented by a red background and are naturally used in battle. Most are offensive skills, but some like Critical Hit and Combat Mastery are passive and bolster the effects of other skills.

  • Mabinogi Skill Charge.png Charge (Giant-specific skill): This skill enables you to fiercely charge at an enemy while protecting your vital points. You will receive less damage from long ranged bow and crossbow attacks, and will not be knocked down. This skill cannot block magic from long ranged attacks. Upon approaching a target, this skill forcefully hits and pushes back the target, causing it to temporarily lose consciousness.
  • Mabinogi Skill Combat Mastery.png Combat Mastery (Passive): Combat mastery is a skill giants and humans start out with. Elves learn it during beginner quests. This skill only adds melee power, not magic or ranged power. It is capped at rank 1 with the master title: "Combat Master".
  • Mabinogi Skill Counter Attack.png Counter Attack: Counter Attack is great because it can not only block even a smash, but it can redirect its power back! The higher its rank, the more damage is redirected. Eventually, your rank will let you add extra damage. Warning: Counter Attack eats up your stamina for as long as you use it. It can be tricky, but timing is key for stamina conservation!
  • Mabinogi Skill Defense.png Defense: This is an activated skill, and it'll block a normal attack, giving you a chance to launch your own with minimal damage. It is helpful if you always wear armor. Warning: just because you blocked one, doesn't mean they've stopped coming! Quickly attack (send a punch or slash or whatever), or you'll just get attacked again.
  • Mabinogi Skill Evasion.png Evasion: Bends the body and moves nimbly with a possibility of avoiding an Arrow or Bolt attack.
  • Mabinogi Skill Smash.png Smash: A powerful one-blow attack. Can be countered but not defended against. Also, normal attacks can stop a smash, so be careful! Helpful for breaking an enemies defense.
  • Mabinogi Skill Final Hit.png Final Hit (Human-specific skill): The final hit is an attack skill that is most effective in melee combat which brings down the enemy with crazed force that pushes the body's strength to the limits. You can defeat the enemy by instantaneously moving in the speed of a sword in the air, which allows you to keep swinging your sword even when you are under attack by the enemy as long as you are holding the sword in both hands. If you are holding a weapon in just one hand, you will be able to blow away your enemy with a single swing in the air.
  • Mabinogi Skill Windbreaker.png Windbreaker (Giant-specific skill): It is meant to be used right after Taunt.
  • Mabinogi Skill Windmill.png Windmill: A special breakdance maneuver that hurts any enemies in a certain circumference around your body. Careful, because when you use it you become stationary and using the move will do some damage to your hit points.
  • Mabinogi Skill Taunt.png Taunt (Giant-specific skill): This will cause monsters to aggro you.
  • Mabinogi Skill Stomp.png Stomp (Giant-specific skill): It's a skill in which you stomp the ground with force, temporarily immobilizing an enemy and causing damage. The energy from the stomping foot travels through the ground, thus cannot be deflected by Defense. However, if the opponent is already being attacked by someone else, they will not receive the damage. If they have tolerance to long-range attacks, the duration of their immobilization and damage can be diminished.

Combat (Ranged)

  • Mabinogi Skill Arrow Revolver.png Arrow Revolver (Human-specific skill): This stacks arrows like icebolt magic and emits them at a more prefered speed. (Makes you walk at minimum speed unless you are using a crossbow.)
  • Mabinogi Skill Final Shot.png Final Shot (Elf-specific skill): Allows you to continuously attack multiple opponents in a momentary time. Works terribly unless you use two swords at once.
  • Mabinogi Skill Magnum Shot.png Magnum Shot: Basically an Archer's Smash. This powerful shot can send an enemy flying, but, like counter, it devours stamina for how many seconds you hold it.
  • Mabinogi Skill Mirage Missile.png Mirage Missile (Elf-specific skill): Lets you throw an arrow with an added poison bonus.
  • Mabinogi Skill Ranged Attack.png Ranged Attack: This skill is like a combat mastery for ranged weapons. It is the default attack used with a bow (after finishing another skill or just attacking).
  • Mabinogi Skill Suppory Shot.png Support Shot: This skill allows you to attack a monster already under attack, without taking the "accomplishment" of the kill.
  • Mabinogi Skill Throwing Attack.png Throwing Attack (Giant-specific skill): It's a skill that enables you to use throwing weapons against your opponents. If you have the throwing tool and the throwing weapon in your hands, you can use the Throwing attack. Unlike arrows, you can immediately attack an enemy without aiming first.

Combat (Misc)

  • Mabinogi Skill Critical Hit.png Critical Hit: This skill is a passive skill that allows you to make more powerful critical hits; the higher the rank of this skill the more damage a critical hit will do.
  • Mabinogi Skill Sharp Mind.png Sharp Mind (Passive): Helps you read what your enemies are doing so you can choose the best strategy. All ranks are the same in mind-reading ability, i.e. rank F is fine.
  • Mabinogi Spirit Weapon Awakening.png Spirit Weapon Awakening: This skill awakens the spirit inside of the Spirit Weapon to actually assist in combat. The spirit, once awakened, has the ability to attack multiple targets within a general vicinity. In order for spirits to make attacks however, they must first be awakened, but only spirits with a Social Level of at least 21 can do so. The energy required to awaken the spirit can only be collected a small amount at a time, through using the Spirit Weapon in combat. Only when enough energy has been gathered can this skill then be activated. As soon as the skill is activated, the energy begins to escape through, and since no further energy can be gathered, this skill should only be activated once an appropriate target has been spotted.

Life

Life skills consist of a yellow background and are generally support skills. Some bolster the effects of other skills, such as Campfire, while others allow players to create items and potions.

Magic

  • Mabinogi Skill Enchant.png Enchant: Enchant Scrolls can be found at the end of dungeons, and, depending on rank, can give your weapons good effects as well as your stats. To enchant, you must have an enchant scroll and magic powder. Also, you have to keep in mind the scroll's time limit. Scrolls only last for so long until they expire.
  • Mabinogi Skill Fireball.png Fireball (Advance Magic): This shoots a bullet of fire toward the selected monster. Acts like a bomb. You must have a Fire Wand to use this skill.
  • Mabinogi Skill Firebolt.png Firebolt: Learned by book or class, Firebolt is a basic fire spell which is a one-shot spell. It can be charged five times, and will always knock an enemy backwards unless they are magic resistant.
  • Mabinogi Skill Healing.png Healing: Learned by book, this allows you to heal. It consumes a lot MP, and every rank will without a doubt drain you of AP. Rank up wisely.
  • Mabinogi Skill Icebolt.png Icebolt: The first spell that is usually learned on Mabinogi. It can be charged five times, and each charge is released individually. Can be helpful if one knows the "Ice Spam" trick.
  • Mabinogi Skill Lightning Bolt.png Lightning Bolt: This allows you to shoot a stacked lightning-based attack at all the monsters in the area. The more stack, the more monsters it is possible to hit. (Generally weak.)
  • Mabinogi Skill Magic Mastery.png Magic Mastery: This doesn't do much but add to your max MP. However, it is trained by using other magic skills.
  • Mabinogi Skill Meditation.png Meditation: This allows you to regenerate MP at a more rapid rate, however your speed decreases to walking speed, unless you have a wand equipped. (Semi-Passive: May be used with other skills.)
  • Mabinogi Skill Party Healing.png Party Healing (Advance Magic): This is the simplest Advance Magic. This allows you to heal all your party members at once when using a Healing Wand.
  • Mabinogi Skill Thunder.png Thunder (Advance Magic): This is the lightning-based advance magic. It allows you to shoot bolts of thunder at the selected monster, the fifth charging being the strongest. You may only use this skill when having a Lightning wand equipped.
  • Mabinogi Skill Icespear.png Icespear (Advance Magic): Allows you to shoot two crescent-shaped ice attacks. The first attack freezes the monster, which will make the monster paralyzed. The second attack being another crescent of ice shooting a stacked up spear to damage the monster. (Warning: Unlike icebolt, this stacks up like a firebolt. It does not shoot each stack at a seperate spear.)
