Mario & Luigi: Dream Team (Mario & Luigi RPG 4: Dream Adventure in Japan and Mario & Luigi: Dream Team Bros. in PAL regions) is the fourth entry in the Mario & Luigi series, preceded by Bowser's Inside Story. This game gives Luigi a much bigger role than in the previous three games - Mario can enter Luigi's dreams and use different Luiginary works to aid Mario on his quest.

Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Toadsworth, and the Toads are off to have a wonderful vacation on Pi'illo Island, an island for tourist. After some casual introductions led by Broque Monsieur, they head off to the island's main attraction, Pi'illo Castle, where they find Starlow, who previously helped the Bros. out when they accidentally got sucked into Bowser's body. Unfortunately for them, Princess Peach gets kidnapped and taken into Luigi's dreams during their visit inside the castle, forcing Mario to rescue her once again. This time, she is kidnapped by a mysterious bat-king named Antasma, who plots to conquer the world using the Dream Stone, a magical, powerful stone that grants the user's wishes. After Antasma takes Peach deep into the Dream World, and seals the entrance, Mario breaks a purple rock that releases a pillow-like figure named Prince Dreambert, prince of the Pi'illos, a race of pillow-like figures that once inhabited the island before Antasma broke loose - they managed to corner him, but before he was sealed forever (or so they think) into Dream's Deep, the deepest part of the Dream World, he smashed the Dark Stone into pieces, a nightmarish stone that was the total opposite of the Dream Stone, and rains of chunks fell through the sky and petrified the Pi'illos. It gets even more troublesome when Bowser ends up teaming up with Antasma.

Now Mario has to use Luigi's Dreams to stop the duo from world domination using the Dream Stone.
