Day Two: Court Mode
Before the Trial
Maya arrives with the Mask☆DeMasque Publicity Photo which will be added to the Court Record. Ron screams in, again admitting to the heist. Just then, Desirée butts in, again saying otherwise and trusts that you will prove it. Is Ron really Mask☆DeMasque? He doesn't have the urn, so there is only one way to find out.
You prepare for the trial as you are introduced to Godot, who claims he never lost a case... or won. It turns out, this is his first case as a prosecutor. Godot says he came back from the depths of Hell to battle you. And just how does he know you, and what's with the mask? It looks like Godot is very confident. The Judge will call his first witness.
Gumshoe takes the stand. He testify about what he knows about the thief.
Gumshoe's Testimony: Mask☆DeMasque's Crimes
- Mask☆DeMasque is a master thief that first started his crime spree 6 months ago.
- He's so confident that he sends his calling card before he even commits the crime!
- This was his fifth heist, and as usual, he sent a card on to Lordly Tailor.
- His pattern is to always go after only the most precious art pieces.
- That's why we're sure it was Mask☆DeMasque, sir. It fits his M. O. to a T!
Mask☆DeMasque's Crimes: Cross-Examination
Present the Sacred Urn on the 4th statement. Just look at it. It doesn't look like a type that would be valuable. In fact, Mask☆DeMasque normally wouldn't go for something that is priceless as a simple urn. So did Mask☆DeMasque really stole the urn? Godot responds by saying you think an imitator may be the culprit and asks for proof. It looks like you have to show evidence. Compare the Security Camera with the Mask☆DeMasque Publicity Photo. See the difference? Present the Security Camera. Now you need to show the difference. Present the "Fake☆DeMasque"'s chest area.
Now look at the publicity photo. It looks like broach is clasped on the chest. Now, if you look at the Security Photo, it's not there! So does that mean this Mask☆DeMasque really is a fake? Probably not, as Godot will present the broach itself. Godot says he found it at the crime scene near some sort of Buddha statue. (He probably means Ami) So hows does this prove that Ron is in the costume? Fingerprints. There are Ron's fingerprints all over the broach. It has a piece of cloth on the back of the broach, so there has to be a struggle. DeMasque's Broach will be added to the Court Record.
Godot will now call in the next witness, Luke Atmey
Luke will testify about what he saw while he was on patrol, alone.
Atmey's Testimony: What I Witnessed
- It was approximately 1 o'clock in the morning... just after the date changed.
- That's when my nemesis, the infamous Mask☆DeMasque, dancingly descended upon me
- Just as I began to turn, the coward struck a fierce blow upon my noble head!
- Darkness swallowed me before I could land a single strike. When I awoke, he was gone.
- Thirty minutes later, I used an emergency phone to notify the police!
What I Witnessed: Cross-Examination
Present DeMasque's Broach on the 4th statement. Look closely. It looks like it was ripped off the piece of clothing, as there was a struggle on some point of the heist inside the basement. And the only person to have made Mask☆DeMasque struggle is Atmey, because he was the only person at the crime scene that night.
So does that mean Atmey fought with the thief? Why did he lie just now? Godot has Atmey explain his lie in another testimony.
Atmey's Testimony: Fight With The Thief
- Indeed, it's true that I looked away from the door for a brief moment.
- However... Luke Atmey cannot be so easily discombobulated!
- Unfortunately, the thief grabbed a weapon from the side and... rendered me senseless.
- A true gentleman fights only with his own fists... But they were not enough.
- His first blow struck true! Bam!... And that's all she wrote.
Fight With The Thief: Cross-Examination
Press on the 5th statement. Atmey tried to use the "Atmey Fighting Style" but was overpowered. Ask about this Atmey Fighting Style? Atmey will say it is to put your back behind the wall so no one can get behind you. You are if this is important, answer It was very important. This "secret" information will be added as a statement.
- I put my back to the wall to fight, but the thief's blow landed upon my third eye.
Present the Shichishito on this statement. Yesterday, Atmey told you that he was struck from "behind", so now he is saying he was struck in the forehead? You also consider the fact that Atmey hid the calling card from the police, as if he doesn't want them to help with security. Godot, with his first "Objection", will ask what you are trying to get at. You are given a choice, assert that Mr. Atmey is Mask☆DeMasque. How? You explain that Atmey was in charge of security, so he dressed up as the Mask☆DeMasque and stole the urn, all while manipulating the security camera!
It looks like you caught him red-handed, but suddenly, another "Objection" from Godot (along with coffee on your face). He, of course, wants proof of your claim. Say that the said proof has yet to be found, because choosing otherwise would get you nowhere.
It looks like your arguments have fallen apart, however someone steps in. It's Desirée! She brought in the bag you tried to check in yesterday. What's inside? The urn! The Sacred Urn will be updated to the Court Record. Note the profile photo. Does this mean you are saved? Not quite, as Godot is accusing Desirée for trying to protect her husband. Just where was the urn before it was "found" at the detective's office? You know she wouldn't commit crimes, so you'll have to help her. When given the options, choose to Show the fingerprints on the urn.
Atmey will remind you that his fingerprints would be pointless, because he was guarding it the whole time and he was wearing gloves. It looks like you have to test someone else's fingerprints. When given the chance Present Phoenix Wright's Profile (that's right, you). Yesterday, you didn't get to see what's in the bag, but you did touch it. So if it has your fingerprints on it, then it is surely the urn found at Atmey's office.
Godot argues that it still doesn't prove when the urn was put there. However, tear that argument apart by saying Andrews polished the urn. If she did, then she washed away most if not all of the fingerprints on it.
Atmey will now say that he already knew that your fingerprints are on it and will now confess that he is, in fact, Mask☆DeMasque.
The Judge has now decided a verdict. But before he does so, Ron will interrupt. He, or course, doesn't want to give up his alias. Godot wants him to prove that he really is the phantom thief. You will hear Ron's "confession" in the last testimony of the day.
Ron's Testimony: Mask☆DeMasque's Identity
- The truth is, I've been Mask☆DeMasque all along!
- I mean, you can't prove that I'm not actually Mask☆DeMasque, can you?
- I don't have an alibi for the night the urn was stolen, after all!
- I donned my costume that night and dancingly descended upon the scene of the crime!
- Look! You can see right there in the photo! That's me!
- As for my broach, I snagged it on the door handle and it got torn off, that's all!
Just how bad does this guy want to be in jail?
Mask☆DeMasque's Identity: Cross-Examination
Present Ron's Wallet on statement 2. Ron had realized he lost the wallet on the night of the crime and he had it when he and Desirée went for dinner that night. You reveal that the wallet was found at 1:00AM at KB Security headquarters. It was probably because Ron was actually there that night. Not only that, but it takes 30 minutes to go from KB Security to Lordly Tailor that night.
You now have shown Ron's alibi, but Godot doesn't want Ron to give up just yet. Ron will say that someone else must have planted the wallet there. You counter his argument saying that Ron did drop his wallet as he is using the KB Security Card to go in the CEO's Office. Godot now wants you to show motive. Present the Blackmail Letter. Someone apparently was trying to blackmail Ron, telling him to bring $50,000, so Ron had to face the blackmailer, possibly the CEO.
Godot now wants a witness that would prove your claim, such as the CEO. But, you never talked to him, so you will have to show a different witness. Present Larry Butz's Profile. Larry works as one of the security guards at KB Security. Yesterday, he told you that the key card at KB unlocks the CEO's office. If you use it, the door will keep a record who entered the door and when. You request to analyze the key card.
The results come back and it is just what you hoped. After announcing the CEO's name, Kane Bullard, Godot announces that Ron's card was indeed used 1:00 in the morning, meaning Mask☆DeMasque as seen in the crime photo is definitely not Ron. Godot admits defeat and The Judge hands down the final verdict.
Ron DeLite is found Not Guilty!
The End?
Ron still seems glum though he isn't guilty. At least everyone else is happy about Ron being acquitted.
The celebration has fallen short however, as Godot arrives to bring some bad news. At the same time the urn was stolen, Kane Bullard, the CEO of KB Security, was murdered, right at his own office! What's more is that you have proven that Ron was there at the time. You have even proven his motive, blackmail. Therefore, Ron, the person you have saved from all charges, is now charged once again, this time for murder, thanks to you!
It looks like this story is far from over.
Day Two: Investigation Mode
Wright & Co. Law Offices
Pearl decides to take the urn and bring it back to Kurain Village. The Sacred Urn will be removed from the Court Record for now. Talk to Maya.
What to do: Maya thinks you should talk to Desirée. Since her husband works at KB Security, she should know where the headquarters is.
Sacred Urn: Maya notices something strange. The urn says AMI again rather than I AM. What's more is that there are pink splotches all over it.
Kurain Village: Nothing important here.
Move to DeMasque's Hideout.
Mask☆DeMasque's Hideout
Desirée looks very worried for Ron. Talk to Desirée:
Ron DeLite: Desirée will say something about love a first sight.
Detective Atmey: Nothing important here.
KB Security: It looks like Desirée doesn't know that Ron quit the job as a security guard. She gives you the directions to KB Security headquarters.
Love at first sight?: Desirée will reveal that Ron once saved her life. She was held hostage by a couple of robbers when Ron came and fought them off (okay, he scared him off... unintentionally). They fell in love with each other since.
After talking, Move to the CEO's Office.
KB Security, CEO's Office
Here it is, the crime scene, and of course, Gumshoe is there. Talk to Gumshoe:
What happened: The victim's name was Kane Bullard. His body was discovered on 9:00am this morning. He died at approximately 1:00am on October 12th due to blunt force head trauma. Kane's Autopsy Report will be added to the Court Record. Bullard's body was discovered when it fell out of the safe when they opened it.
Detective Atmey: After a few concerns about Atmey's "investigations", Gumshoe will show you a news article about the Mask☆DeMasque's first heist involving the robbery of the "Tear of Emanon". He says there is something that bothers him. You note about the security guard in the picture. He looks kind of familiar. The Newspaper Clipping will be added to the Court Record.
Prosecutor Godot: Just who is this guy? Gumshoe couldn't figure out who he is. Why does he hold some sort of grudge against you.
Present Kane Bullard's Profile. Gumshoe doesn't really have much info on him.
Talk about The victim. Gumshoe will say Bullard often uses mney to trade secrets with rival companies. It turns out KB used what they have to catch Mask☆DeMasque, but failed many times. As a result, they started losing money. Is this why Bullard had been blackmailing Ron?
After talking, Examine the thick file sitting on the table on the bottom of the screen. It's files are about Mask☆DeMasque! It has everything in it, his methods, the crime scenes even the items he stole! Kane's List will be added to the Court Record.
Examine what looks like a buzzer just right of the painting. It looks like the emergency buzzer. Gumshoe says that someone should have push the buzzer during the struggle, but the security says it never went off. Kane wasn't wearing gloves either. What happened?
Present the Blackmail Letter. Just why did Bullard want to blackmail Ron anyway?
Move the Security Room.
KB Security, Security Room
You will meet Larry there (oh no) who claims he knows something about the murder. Talk to Larry:
Good info: Larry will tell you that Ron was fired from the headquarters a year ago. Why?
Security guard: Nothing important here.
The night of the crime: You ask Larry if he was in his position when the crime occurred. Instead of answering, Larry presents 2 Psyche-Locks.
Fortunately you don't have to search for more clues, so go right ahead and Present the Magatama:
Larry's Psyche-Lock: The Night of the Crime
Larry says he was in his office the whole time. You need to prove him wrong. Present Ron's Wallet. Yesterday, he handed the wallet to Desirée. He said he found it at 1:00 in the morning, the same time as the crime, meaning that Larry wasn't in his station after all.

Larry now tells you the murderer sneaked in the crime scene before his shift started. You know that's not possible. Present the CEO Office Key Card. The card was used in 1:00AM, right in the middle of Larry's shift.

Talk to Larry about The night of the crime again. Larry will confess that he had to talk to his "Donna" that night. Larry is extremely apologetic and will do anything to make up for it. Maya suggests to show evidence you have.
Present the CEO Office Buzzer. This will open up a new topic.
Talk about the Emergency buzzer. Larry says the buzzer leaves a record of whenever it's pressed. Larry checks the records and what do you know, it went off around 1:00AM, the same time as the murder! The Buzzer Record will be added to the Court Record.
Move to the Main Exhibition Hall accessible from the CEO's Office. Then Move to the Basement Warehouse.
Lordly Tailor, Basement Warehouse
You see Andrews. You tell her the Sacred Urn is taken care of. Talk to Andrews:
DeMasque's Identity: Nothing worth hearing.
The night of the crime: Nothing worth hearing.
Sacred Urn: You ask about how the urn is suddenly different. Andrews says she doesn't know anything about it, but 2 Psyche-Locks prove otherwise.
Move to the Detention Center.
Detention Center
Ron is available now. Talk to Ron:
Mask☆DeMasque: Ron still insists that he is the thief, but Atmey tell you that? Ron then admits that he didn't stole the urn, so the guy in the crime photo has to be Atmey.
The night of the crime: Ron does admit that he was indeed at KB Security at the time. He opened the CEO's door up with his key, and as soon as he entered he was knocked out cold. When he came to, he saw something frightening, Kane Bullard's dead body. He knew he had to do something with it, so he put it inside the safe. He knew how to open it, because he was one of the chief security guards. He was even the one who set up the camera in the building, so he knew how to avoid being caught by them.
Why were you fired?: Ron tells you not to tell his "Dessie", about being in a life of crime. Ron says Desirée spends money "like it was water". He thinks only being a thief would bring enough money every day.
Present to Ron the Newspaper Clipping about his first heist. Ron will say he hid his costume in a trash can. He will also say that the security guy in the photo is indeed him. The Newspaper Clipping will be updated in the Court Record. Ron says Atmey found the costume afterwords. Since then, he began receiving blackmail letters. Blackmail!?
Talk about the Blackmail letter. He said the one you have isn't the first one. The first one said "I know you did it. I know you stole it, so give up." In the end, he did so and gave up the jewel he stole. In return, he received a large amount of money. Ron then started receiving plans.
Talk about the Heist plans. He received very detailed plans and instructions on the heists. It looks like someone else has been planning the heists? If so, then Ron really is Mask☆DeMasque after all? So who is making the plans? Ron says he just submit the stolen items and waits for the cash to come in. He also mentions that he never actually saw the urn, he just did as he was told. Ron's Testimony will be added to the Court Record.
You ask Ron once more if he killed Bullard. He insists that he didn't, he just put the body inside the safe. He was afraid he would be caught for murder, so he would make the judge found him guilty of the theft, thus giving him an alibi. It looks like you ruined such a clever plan.
Just then, Pearl returns. She announces that the urn has been checked and it is confirmed that it is real after all. However, it looks like the pink splotches are actually paint and they were put on just recently. The girls suggest that you find out how they got there. The Sacred Urn will be returned to the Court Record.
Move to the Basement Warehouse.
Lordly Tailor, Basement Warehouse (2)
Andrews is still hanging around. Maya suggests that you look around one more time. Examine the cardboard box. It looks like the urn was in there. It looks like it has pink paint on it and it matches the ones on the urn. The Urn Box will be added to the Court Record.
Pan right and examine the big pink splotch. It looks like it's also the same color as the pink tiny splotches on the urn. Just how did the paint get an odd shape? You then realized it is caused by the cardboard box! It matches! It looks like you have it figured it out. The Paint Marks will be added to the Court Record.
You are now getting closer to the truth behind the urn mystery. Close enough that you can Pan left and Present the Magatama to Andrews:
Andrews' Psyche-Locks: The Sacred Urn
You say the urn submitted to court isn't the same one you saw before. Andrews will say that its a fake. Present the Sacred Urn. Pearl recently examined the urn and it looks like it was broken recently, just a year after it was broken last. Andrews wants proof. Present the Treasure Exhibit Poster. On it, it says "I AM", but now for some reason, it spells "AMI" again meaning the spelling was rewritten.

Andrews desperately blames the photo shooters for dropping the urn. She ask for proof that it was broken here. Present the Paint Marks. The paint on the urn is the same as the paint on the floor and wall, so it has to be dropped there. Andrews wants proof that the paint is the same as the one on the urn. Present the Urn Box. It has paint all over it. If you compare it to the shape on the spill, it perfectly fits. So, if the box did contain the urn, it's no doubt that the urn was dropped on the paint.

Talk to Andrews:
Sacred Urn: Andrews will confess that she was the one that broke the urn. About two weeks ago, right after the photo shooting, the urn arrived and she thought she'd took it in the basement for safekeeping. Suddenly, she tripped on some paint cans and accidentally lost her grip on the box, dropping it, and breaking the urn. Andrews knew it is the most important treasure in the village, so she fixed it, not knowing how it is originally spelled, but assuming it was "AMI". The Sacred Urn will be updated in the Court Record.
Maya then wonders how the paint got there. You haven't seen it when you first got here. Andrews will admit she covered it with the Ami Fey Statue.
Ami Fey Statue: Pearl wonders about something strange. On the day before the murder, it was closer to the door. The day after however, it was moved again. Andrews says she wouldn't move it again and doesn't know who moved it.
You begin to suspect that the urn may have a connection to the murder. If the real Mask☆DeMasque was at the KB Security headquarters, then who was the one that stole the urn? Perhaps tomorrow's trial will hopefully bring out the answers.
