Day Two: Court Mode

Before the Trial

Gumshoe is really getting more threatening. Let's hope you don't disappoint him.

The Judge hints that your opening statement in the last trial is "Youse talkin' to me!?" Does this sound familiar?

Gumshoe, as usual, is your first witness. He will describe the basic facts to the case.

  • The victim's name was Glen Elg. He was a professional programmer.
  • He was on a payroll for Blue Screens Inc., a local company.
  • This is the victim's autopsy report. (Glen's Autopsy Report is added to the Court Record.)
  • And here are the floor plans of the restaurant.
  • When the incident took place, the victim was sitting right here.
  • The poisoned coffee was brought over to him by the waitress.
  • The victim died from poisoning almost immediately after he took a sip of the coffee.
  • At the time of the incident, there were two other people in the restaurant.
  • Jean Armstrong, the owner and chef.
  • And a regular by the name of Mr. Victor Kudo.

The Trés Bien Floor Plans will be added to the Court Record.

You will now hear Gumshoe's first testimony.

Gumshoe's Testimony: The Incident

Gumshoe
Gumshoe
Gumshoe's Testimony
- The Incident -
  1. When the incident took place, the victim was alone at his table, sir.
  2. We understand that the guy, Glen Elg, was listening to the radio at the time.
  3. Traces of poison were found in his coffee cup.
  4. And what we found was potassium cyanide. That stuff really packs a punch!
  5. And, um... it looks like Ms. Byrde might've had, well... some kind of a motive.

The Incident: Cross-Examination

Press on the 1st statement. You say that Maggey testified that there was another man next to him. Godot tells you that this wasn't supported by the chef or the other customer. Press harder. Godot will show you the photo of the crime scene. It looks like it was taken from the kitchen entrance. The picture was taken from Armstrong's point of view. It looks kind of clear, sort of. The Crime Photo will be added to the Court Record.

Press on the 3rd statement. Gumshoe says that the poison was powder. Press harder, and you will ask for proof if Glen actually drank the cup. Gumshoe says you're right, but Godot forces him to prove otherwise. Gumshoe shows the victim's cup. It has a coffee stain, showing that Glen indeed drank the cup. Furthermore, the only fingerprints on it were the victim's and the defendant's. The Coffee Cup is added to the Court Record.

Press on the 5th statement. Gumshoe reluctantly says the motive was to steal a winning lottery ticket worth half-a-million. Press harder. Godot will show the ticket itself. He says it was found during Maggey's body search! The Victim's Lottery Ticket will be added to the Court Record.

Godot presents more evidence against Maggey. The apron she was wearing. One thing that catches your eye is what looks like blood on it. Godot however, refers to the coffee stain, which Maggey spilled on herself, and the pocket, which contained the potassium cyanide it even has only Maggey's fingerprints on it! Both the Apron and the Potassium Cyanide will be added to the Court Record.

What about the blood-stain on the apron? It turns out Godot never noticed the blood-stain nor he heard about it. But it looks obvious! Gumshoe will say it is just ketchup. How could Godot not notice the stain?

Things are already taken a downfall, the evidence, the opportunity, the motive, all are implicating Maggey. Nevertheless, Gumshoe will continue to testify anyways.

Gumshoe's Testimony: The Investigation

Gumshoe
Gumshoe
Gumshoe's Testimony
- The Investigation -
  1. The crime was reported at 2:25 PM by a kind of scary old man, sir.
  2. Poor Maggey had passed out from the shock. It must've been real tough for her.
  3. The victim didn't have any identification on him.
  4. But we figured out who he was pretty quick, and then the investigation went smoothly.
  5. When Maggey was searched, we found the lottery ticket and the bottle of poison.
  6. And that was it. There was nothing else missing from the crime scene.

The Investigation: Cross-Examination

Press on the 4th statement. If Glen had no form of ID with him, how did the police figure out who he was so quickly? Gumshoe suddenly remembers that there was a prescription bag with him. Ask about the prescription bag. Gumshoe says the bag was empty. How so? The Victim's Prescription Bag will be added to the Court Record.

Now you finally have a contradiction for Gumshoe's testimony. Present the Victim's Prescription Bag at statement 6. The prescription bag was empty, right? Gumshoe says the police didn't find the prescription itself. If that is true, then there was something else missing after all.

If the medicine disappeared, then could that mean the victim's prescription was the poison itself? Godot has you read the name of the clinic. "New Ear Otolaryngological Clinic". Otolaryngological? Godot explains that the day before the murder, Glen got into a fight. He took a blow in the side of his head, rupturing his eardrum, so the prescription was actually cream, to be topically applied inside his ear canal not to be ingested. The autopsy report found that Glen did so at his visit at the Trés Bien. So Glen did take his medication.

This is bad, when given the choice, Push the medication issue. If Glen did take the prescription at Trés Bien, where was the cream? This will leave to "Objections!" before Godot's mask burns. It looks like he has nothing!

Godot is too speechless to call in a next witness, so Gumshoe calls Victor Kudos to the stand, The Judge will call a recess. Close one.

Recess

Maggey doesn't look happy about Gumshoe at all, the way he "betrayed" her. So Victor is the next witness? Try your best to handle him.

Victor testifies about what he saw when the crime committed.

Victor's Testimony: What I Witnessed

Victor
Victor
Victor's Testimony
- What I Witnessed -
  1. The young man was reading the sports paper.
  2. The serving girl brought him a javaccino... But she put something in it!
  3. The man took one sip of it, looked like he was in terrible pain, and then collapsed.
  4. That's the serving girl, right there in the defendant's chair. I remember her well!

What I Witnessed: Cross-Examination

Press on the 4th statement. It sounds like he only identifies her by her waitress dress. Press harder, and a new statement will be added.

  • There was a ribbon in her hair, and her apron's straps were loose.

Press on that statement. What he just said does resemble that of Maggey. Ask about the waitress's back. Victor only described the waitress as if he only saw her from the back. What about the most important feature, the face. Another statement will be added.

  • There wasn't anything that caught my interest about her when I saw her from the front.

Present the Apron on that statement. Victor says he hasn't seen it. Finally, you found a mistake. The apron was worn by Maggey the very day of the crime, so if Victor hasn't seen the apron, he would not have seen the waitress in the front!

Godot reminds you that there was only one waitress at the restaurant and when she put the poison in the cup and gave it Glen, Victor was watching. Victor will now testify about what he remembers about seeing Glen. This is only the test of his memory, so you only have to make sure his memory isn't well.

Victor's Testimony: About the Victim

Victor
Victor
Victor's Testimony
- About the Victim -
  1. He was another of those pesky young types, wearing a broken pair of spectacles.
  2. He had a newspaper in his right hand, and the noisy brat kept rustling its pages!
  3. The young man was listening to the wireless. I remember that well.
  4. Then the serving girl in question brought over the javaccino.
  5. The little fidget picked up the cup with his free hand and took a sip.

About the Victim: Cross-Examination

Present the Coffee Cup on the 5th statement. According to Victor, Glen was holding a piece of paper with his right hand, while drinking with his free hand, which makes it his left. Look at the mark left by Glen's lips, it indicates that Glen drank it with his "right hand".

Victor insists that he drank it with his left hand and pleas to testify more. The Judge refuses, but Godot agrees to hear more.

Victor's Testimony: Left Hand or Right Hand

Victor
Victor
Victor's Testimony
- Left Hand or Right Hand -
  1. The boy was wearing the earpiece on the same side as the green lens of his specs.
  2. He kept fiddling with it all the time.
  3. He was fiddling with it just before he picked up the cup, too.
  4. And then he used the same hand to pick up the cup. His left hand!

Godot will explain that the eye piece Glen was wearing was actually an HMD, a small computer monitor Glen used at work.

Left Hand or Right Hand: Cross-Examination

Present either Glen Elg's Profile or the Victim's Prescription Bag. Glen couldn't possibly have the earpiece on his left ear, because according to the prescription, Glen Elg's left eardrum was ruptured. In this condition, Glen couldn't hear with his left ear.

It looks like you have proven Victor's memory to be shot, even Godot seems frustrated. The Judge decides to adjourn court for today.

However, Victor still isn't giving up yet, as he claims that he hasn't said anything the court hasn't heard yet. He wants one more chance to prove himself. Well, time for one last testimony from the old man.

Victor's Testimony: The Final Showdown

Victor
Victor
Victor's Testimony
- The Final Showdown -
  1. First of all, I want to stress that this might be nothing. I'm not too sure of myself.
  2. The young boy slumped over the table as soon as he took one sip of his javaccino...
  3. Well, the clumsy idiot upset the vase He knocked it right over.
  4. It broke, and the strip of cloth covering the table got completely soaked!
  5. Well!? How about that? Turned things upside-down, hmmm?

The Final Showdown: Cross-Examination

Present the Crime Photo at either statements 3 or 4. You can clearly see in the photo that the vase is intact on Glen's table. Victor then remembers that the vase was on HIS table. Victor was the "clumsy idiot" who knock it over when he was startle upon seeing Glen collapse. He asks one more time for a testimony, but The Judge has the bailiff escort him out of the courtroom.

The Judge adjourns court for today, but he is very intrigued that Victor wanted his testimony to be of use, so he gives a copy of Victor's Testimony will be added to the Court Record.

This concludes today's court mode.

Day Two: Investigation Mode

Wright & Co. Law Offices

As usual, you can Talk to Maya. You need to investigate more to find use for Victor's testimony, and learn more from your doppelganger.

Move to the Criminal Affairs Dept.

Criminal Affairs Department

Gumshoie isn't here, but the atmosphere is different. Everyone seems to be in a panic. What's going on?

Move to the Detention Center.

Detention Center

Maggey isn't here, looks like you'll have to come back later.

Move to Trés Bien.

Trés Bien

You will find Gumshoe, who is listening to the radio. He seems worked up. He is even eating a T-Twin set! Talk to Gumshoe:

Today's trial: He doesn't really like what Maggey said to you.

Lunch Special: Gumshoe said it tasted bad. It quite hard to say when he had to pay so much money.

The radio: You ask hm what he was listening to. He answers with 1 Psyche-Lock.

You know what to do, Present the Magatama:

Talk to Gumshoe about The radio again. He does admit that he would get it big like Glen did. Speaking of Glen...

...Present Glen Elg's Profile. Gumshoe says the he works in a place called Blue Screens, Inc. He gives you directions to the company.

Move to Blue Screens, Inc.

Blue Screens, Inc.

You are greeted by a woman, who, the way she talks, doesn't act very human-like. She introduces herself as Lisa Basil, the director of Blue Screens, Inc. It looks like there is an HMD in her left eye, the same thing Glen is wearing? Talk to Lisa:

Blue Screens, Inc: All you could follow is that they analyze stuff and make CDs.

What happened: Lisa says a policeman arrived earlier. She told him about Glen, but not the waitress (Maggey) as she has nothing to do with Blue Screens, Inc. She permits you to tkae anything from Glen's desk.

Time for some exploring. Examine the papers on the floor. They all look like Losing Horse Race Tickets, which will be added to the Court Record.

Now, Examine the empty desk. It looks like a mess. Something catches Maya's eye. It looks like someone marked December 3rd on Glen's calender, the day of the murder! What's more is that it says "Meet with the Tiger". It looks like a very important clue! Glen's Calender will be added to the Court Record.

Present to Lisa Glen Elg's Profile. She said something about Glen's troubles, but pauses before she could continue.

Talk about Glen's troubles and Lisa will, you guessed it, throw in 3 Psyche-Locks.

Move to the Kitchen.

Kitchen

You will see Armstrong, talking with that creepy girl you saw yesterday. It looks like he promised her not to talk to anyone. She will take a leave after threatening Armstrong. Talk to Armstrong:

Trés Bien: Nothing important here.

The woman just now: Just what were they talking about? It looks like you need to show him evidence.

Present Jean's Loan Contract. Armstrong says they kept harassing him about something before he finally gave in. He had no choice but to help "them".

Talk about The woman just now again. Armstrong will reveal she works at a loan bank called "Tender Lender", where he borrowed half-a-million dollars from.

Ask (Talk) about Tender Lender. He says the owner is known as "The Tiger". Apparently, Armstrong is forced to give back the half-a-million dollars back to him. He does say that he has spiky hair, just like yours! It looks like you are one step closer to your "phony".

Armstrong says Tender Lender is just beyond Vitamin Square.

Move to Tender Lender.

Trés Bien (2)

Along the way, Gumshoe says he will leave for now to attend a meeting for an unrelated case, but before he goes, he asks for a request for you. He made a bunch of weenies for Maggey, and he wants you to give it to her. Gumshoe's Lunchbox will be added to the Court Record.

Continue on (Move) to Tender Lender.

Tender Lender

It's that creepy girl again. She will leave for a moment. This will give you an opportunity to look around for anything suspicious.

Examine the book shelf first. You will find a repair bill. It shows that "The Tiger" had to spend $15,000 on a car that belongs to a Cadaverini family! The Repair Bill will be added to the Court Record.

Examine the CD player on the desk. You check the CD inside it, and guess what it says, MC Bomber, the CD Maggey told you about! MC Bomber will be added to the Court Record.

Examine a dropped ashtray on the lower-right corner of the screen. It looks like a mess of crap. Something cathes your eye. A box of matches and the name printed on it, Trés Bien! The Trés Bien Matches will be added to the Court Record.

Now, Examine the coats on the right side of the screen. One of the outfits looks like yours! What's more is that on one of the lapels, a fake attorney's badge is on it! The Paper Badge will be added to the Court Record.

Just the Tiger guy will arrive. He accuses you for knocking over his ashtray. However the creepy girl comes in and admits she was the one who knocked it over. "The Tiger", rather than beating her, just forgives her... nervously. What? And Tigre calls her Violetta. "The Tiger" will leave. It looks like you will have to Talk to Voiletta:

Tender Lender: Nothing important here.

What happened: She denies ever knowing an "incident" she does reveal the name of the tiger guy, Don Tigre.

Present Furio Tigre's Profile to Violetta. She says that she and Tigre were lovers. Tigre saved her life once!

Talk about Saved your life? Violetta said she "died" about 4 months ago. However, Tigre gave up everything and her life was saved. Does that explain the bandage on her head?

Talk about The head bandage. This will bring up 4 Psyche-Locks!

You'll have to come back later. Move to Vitamin Square.

Vitamin Square (2)

You will see Victor again. Needless to say he isn't happy about today's trial. Talk to Victor:

Today's trial: Victor still insists he saw the waitress pour the poison in the coffee and that the victim was wearing the earpiece on the same side as his HMD.

Embroiderer: You are given a choice, it doesn't matter which. Victor will reveal to you that he was forced to run an errand at Trés Bien!

The "errand": Victor reveals to you that Armstrong told him to call the police after Victor "saw" the murder. Victor was kicked out and it took him five minutes to find a phone booth. By that time, Armstrong was alone! What happened during those five minutes? Is it like someone didn't want Victor there? The reason Victor didn't say this in court today is because he didn't get a chance to, you kicked him out, just as he remembered something.

It looks like you need a word with the chef. Move to the Kitchen.

Kitchen (2)

Armstrong has left the kitchen, during opening hours? And right when we needed him most. Is he trying to avoid you?

Move to the Detention Center.

Detention Center (2)

Maggey is done with questioning. Talk to her:

Contradictions: Maggey said she saw that other guy slip the poison in Glen's coffee, but Victor said he saw the waitress. You also mention about the CD and the magazine.

After the incident: This will make you more suspicious about Armstrong.

Present to Maggey Victor Kudo's Profile or Victor's Testimony. Maggey will tell you what she thinks.

Talk about Victor's testimony: Maggey will admit one thing, other than Victor, there was another customer! She describes her as a creepy woman with a cackling laugh! Could it be Voila!?

Present Gumshoe's Lunchbox to Maggey. She doesn't except it as she says she hates weenies, so you decide to eat it up. Gumshoe's Lunchbox will be removed from the Court Record.

Move to the Criminal Affairs Dept.

Criminal Affairs Department (2)

It looks like there is some excitement here. You learn from Gumshoe that there is a virus sweeping the precinct computers. Talk to Gumshoe:

Tender Lender: He mentions aout something about "that lady". Who is that?

Computer virus: Gumshoe doesn't really know what a virus is, but Phoenix (you) does.

What's a virus?: You explain to Maya and Gumshoe what a virus is. You probably heard a name like one before.

Present the MC Bomber. Gumshoe will recognize the name of the virus: MC Bomber!

Talk about MC Bomber. Gumshoe says criminals in the underworld would send threats and deals to businesses. If the deals weren't met, they will unleash a virus. MC Bomber looks like it was invented by some sort of genius, so it has to be worth millions! MC Bomber will be updated in the Court Record.

Present Violetta's Profile to Gumshoe. He says her real name is Viola Cadaverini, only granddaughter of Bruto Cadaverini, boss of the Cadaverini family, who are too powerful for the police to stop.

Talk about The Cadaverinis. Gumshoe says they are very powerful. They can use their money to control everything in the black market. Even Tender Lender. Bruto really loves Viola. She means everything to him. How did she end up in Tender Lender, Gumshoe does not know, but he does know that the loaner is pretty tight.

Gumshoe then remembers the lunchbox he had you give Maggey. He was prepared, so he made another batch for you to give Maggey. Gumshoe's Lunchbox will be added to the Court Record. Again.

Move to Blue Screens, Inc.

Blue Screens, Inc. (2)

Present the Magatama:

He met with the "Tiger". He even marked it on his calender on the day of the murder. Lisa wants proof of Glen knowing Tigre. Present Glen's Calendar. They both probably met to discuss debt.

1 Psyche-Lock Broken

Lisa says he would have to pay $100,000 to repay Tigre's debt. He did won the lottery, but what if he hadn't. He would plan to use his programming skills to get the money, when asked what he would make Present MC Bomber.

Talk to Lisa:

Glen's troubles: Lisa knew about Glen's gambling "virus" due to the debt of $100,000. Glen thought he had to take on risky extra work.

1 Psyche-Lock Broken

Viola will admit that she was driving one of the family's cars when she ran into what looked like to her a person driving a motorbike. She took a severe blow to the head. Talk to Viola:

The head bandage: Viola will finally say the cost of the operation: $1,000,000! Her grandfather wanted Tigre to pay in compensation. This has to be related to Glen's case.

Compensation: Tigre told her it was only for her, not for her grandfather. Viola wanted to believe him, so she helped him. She knew that Tigre was lying and what he was doing was evil.

Viola will give you her Medical Papers, which will be added to the Court Record. The Repair Bill will be removed.

The truth awaits! Move to the Trés Bien!

Trés Bien (3)

You will see Armstrong... and Tigre! He wants you to give him the medical papers! He even reveals that Armstrong might have something to do with the murder. Tigre punches you and grabs the vital evidence. Is it over!?

Not really, as fortunately for you, Gumshoe comes to your rescue! He gives you back the medical papers and you run off, leaving Gumshoe with Tigre.

That was a close one! Will Gumshoe be alright? Will you manage to use the medical repair bill to get even with the imposer? Good luck in tomorrow's trial!
