Day Three: Court Mode
Before the Trial
Gumshoe will bring you the small bottle you found at Trés Bien a couple of days ago. It turns out to be that medication Glen was using! As for the fingerprints, Gushoe has nothing. The Small Bottle will be back to the Court Record.
Godot calls Jean Armstrong as a witness. Let's get this over with, so he can leave the witness stand.
Armstrong's Testimony: At Trés Bien
- When it all 'appened, z'ere were just two customers in my restaurant.
- I remember I was experimenting w'iz some new art deco z'at day.
- Like 'aving a large mirror between la tables, for example.
- Oui! Per'aps z'at is what la old man was looking at.
- La cup, la earpiece, and la glasses... 'E would 'ave seen everyz'ing in reverse, non?
There was a mirror at the time of the crime!?
At Trés Bien: Cross-Examination
Present Glen Elg's Profile at the 5th statement. Remember what Kudo said yesterday. The Mirror: Cross-Examination
Present the Crime Photo on the 5th statement. There is something that contradicts with this testimony in this photo. When asked what, Present the vase on the table left of the frame. Then, Present Victor's Testimony. He said he knocked over the vase on the table he was sitting, so if he did see the crime with the mirror, the vase would have been knocked over! So there was no mirror at Trés Bien after all!
Godot now wants you to solve the contradiction you just discovered. When given the choice, choose The victim was a phony. If Victor did insist of what he saw, then the "crime" he would have seen was a fake. This probably means that the victim from Victor's POV was also a forgery. The phony probably acted out the scene to create a "witness", and if that witness really did see the earpiece on his left ear, then the phony might have put it there by mistake, as for the waitress, she could also be a fake!
Armstrong will now explain your theory with another testimony.
Armstrong's Testimony: In the Restaurant
- La victim, Monsieur Elg, 'e came to my restaurant alone.
- I remember la old man arrived not long after 'im.
- Z'ere were no other customers.
- When 'e got word 'e won la lottery, Mon. Elg became very excited.
- It was approximately 5 minutes later z'at la poisoning incident occurred.
- Non, z'ere was no time for a phony to do la acting.
So there was no mirror after all.
In the Restaurant: Cross-Examination
Press on statement 2. That old man was of course Victor. You are given a choice of questions. Ask, What time was it? He will answer it in a new statement.
- I remember la old man arrived not long after 'im, just after 2 PM.
Present the Millionaire Radio Flyer. The shoe was announced at 1:30PM each week. The show only takes 10 minutes. If Glen really did visit Trés Bien after 2:00PM, he might not have screamed in victory by that time! So the Glen Armstrong was mention arrived some time AFTER the murder! So, with these errors on the "victim" then this "victim" must be a phony!
Godot will now ask you where the real Glen was, or rather, his corpse! Uh oh, you might have overlooked this fact. It looks like you'll have to guess. Answer Inside Trés Bien, when asked where, Present the Kitchen on the floorplans. Godot asks for proof. Present the Small Bottle. You found this bottle in the kitchen. Armstrong denies ever seeing. You show to the Court that it was the medication Glen used. Armstrong probably dragged the body to the kitchen, where the bottle may have fell out!
At this point, Godot will let out a scream. It looks like Armstrong was lying after all. Godot and The Judge have Armstrong confess in his last testimony.
Armstrong's Testimony: The Confession
- It is true. I 'id la body in la kitchen.
- A man forced me to do it. I 'ad no choice.
- I 'ad to go along w'iz 'im because... Z'ere was a reason why I could not refuse.
- But I did not kill 'im! I swear it! You must believe me!
Armstrong will finally say that there was indeed another man sitting with the real Glen!
The Confession: Cross-Examination
Present Furio Tigre's Profile on the 2nd statement. This this the man Armstrong was talking about. Armstrong was in financial danger because of him. Present Jean's Loan Contract.
Armstrong will now confess that he was following Tigre's orders in order to keep his restaurant. He was forced to put Glen's body and the unconscious Maggey in the kitchen.
The Judge will call in Tigre himself to the stand. He calls for a thirty-minute recess under Godot's permission.
Court Mode: Part Two
Recess
Gumshoe doesn't feel satisfied of what you have right now and wants to go back to the precinct to check something. It should take an hour, but court would be reconvened by then, but heck Present the Small Bottle. Gumshoe doesn't have fingerprints yet, so this may be your last chance of getting a trump card.
Tigre will be called up to the stand. After much humor, Tigre will deny ever attending Maggey's last trial. Tigre will lend his first testimony.
Tigre's Testimony: The Tiger's Ailbi
- I don't know nothin' about no murder.
- I was tied up with business in December last year. Spent all'a my time in my office.
- I got whales lined up to borrow cash from Tender Lender every single day.
- Youse wanna check my alibi, just ask Violetta.
The Judge proposes a warning that irrelevant pressing will give you a penalty, so think hard.
The Tiger's Ailbi: Cross-Examination
Press on Tigre's 2nd statement. Tigre will say that his secretary (Viola) marked his calendar to stay in the office all month. Press harder. Tigre will say he never met Glen on December 3rd. The last bit will be added as a new statement.
- The day youse talkin' about, I was in de office, too. I never saw that kid before.
Present Glen's Calendar on that statement. Glen marked the calendar on December 3rd, saying "Meet with the Tiger". So, it is obvious Glen knew Tigre. Tigre still denies meeting with Glen. He will explain in another testimony.
Tigre's Testimony: The Victim, Glen Elg
- I ain't no liar. I never met Glen Elg.
- There was some lame guy with that name, though. Wanted to borrow cash from me.
- I set up a meetin' with the guy... at my office, Tender Lender.
- I waited around for him, but he ain't ever showed.
- I ain't never been to that Trés Bien joint, youse hear?
The Victim, Glen Elg: Cross-Examination
Present the Trés Bien Matches on the 5th statement. You found this on the desk at Tender Lender and it belonged to Trés Bien. Tigre will now say he did went to the restaurant, but never met Glen. Time for another testimony.
Tigre's Testimony: At Trés Bien
- I was supposed to meet wid the kid at the restaurant that afternoon.
- When I opened the door to the joint, I saw one ugly scene.
- The guy was laid out over the table, stiff as concrete.
- I figured if the place wasn't hot already, it was gonna be, so I split.
- I heard the cop's sirens on my way out, and I went straight back to my office.
Godot proposes a penalty rule if you press on irrelevant statements.
At Trés Bien: Cross-Examination
Present the Trés Bien Floor Plans on statement 3. Tigre said he saw the back of Glen's head at the entrance, but that isn't possible, because between the entrance and the victim's seat was a tall partition, which blocks the view from the entrance, so Tigre must have seen Glen not from the entrance, but because he met with the victim.
Now you have to show who the impostor victim was that made Victor mistakenly testify wrong. Present Furio Tigre's Profile.
Godot will remind you that Victor saw the waitress sprinkle in the poison, so if what the victim Victor saw was really an impostor, then it is obvious that the waitress was in the play too. When Maggey fainted, Tigre used that advantage to put someone in the waitress outfit and pour in the "poison". When asked who, Present Viola Cadaverini's Profile. Tigre is still not giving up that easily. He does confirm that he was at Trés Bien, and he did meet Glen, but he asks you one more question. Did he really poison Glen? Sounds like one last testimony is afoot.
Tigre's Testimony: Ties to the Victim
- Yeah, I loaned Elg cash. About 100,000 dollars.
- That day, we was due to have a little chat. The kid had hit his payback date, see?
- So anyway, he tells me he's got no way to pay up.
- I'm about to flatten the guy, when he starts screamin'.
- "Yesss! I won! Half a million bucks!" He got lucky, you' know. Real lucky.
- If that waitress hadn't done what she done, everythin' woulda been over.
You will now have to explain Tigre's motive for the murder.
Ties to the Victim: Cross-Examination
Press on Tigre's 6th statement. He says that the waitress was Maggey. Ask how things would've been. This will add a new statement.
- I was after the $100,000. I didn't have no other reason to kill the guy!
Present the MC Bomber on that statement. Tigre wasn't after the money, he was after MC Bomber, a virus that could be worth millions of dollars. When asked for proof, Present Viola's Medical Papers.
4 months ago, Tigre was involved in a traffic accident, where a young woman was injured. She had to go to the hospital to have surgery. The surgery cost $1,000,000. But why did Tigre pay for it? Because his life depended on it! The said woman's name was Viola Cadaverini, precious granddaughter of Bruto Cadaverini, the mob boss who controlled everything in the underworld. Tigre had to do desperate things to get the money he owed them, even when it means killing the person who would pay his own debt!
Glen won the lottery, so Tigre had no legitimate chance of receiving the money, so he had no choice but to kill Glen! Afterwords, Tigre framed Maggey by re-enacting the scene with him the victim and Viola as Maggey to create a witness, Victor Kudo! Tigre now asks you how he managed to put Maggey where she had no escape from custody. Present the Paper Badge. A month ago, he posed as you, to ensure that Maggey is convicted once and for all! The Judge agrees, considering the childish job "you" did at that time!
Now you have Tigre cornered... you have you? Godot asks for one more thing, evidence. He wants you to show that Tigre really did kill Glen. But, you don't have it!... until Gumshoe arrives with that evidence, just in time! A recess will be called.
Recess
Gumshoe has confirmed the fingerprints on the medication, and they were Tigre's! However, you say this may not prove anything, as it is just Glen's medication. Gumshoe will leave in despair.
The Small Bottle will be added to the Court Record. It looks like you have to show Gumshoe and Maggey the former isn't completely useless after all.
Fighting Fire With Fire
Back in the courtroom, you are given the chance to present this final, decisive, evidence that would stand in court. Present the Small Bottle. You are asked to say what is in the bottle. Everyone in this courtroom knows... except for Tigre. If he made a phony crime, and became a phony lawyer, then you're just gonna have to fight fire with fire with phony evidence, when given the choice, say that the bottle contains potassium cyanide.
You ask Tigre if this was the bottle the murderer used to kill Glen. Tigre says it isn't... the bottle was brown. But wait, how does he know? Well know one doesn't, except for the real murderer! And since Tigre knows it, he has just inadvertently admitted his guilt!

Maggey is very happy that you finally get her an acquittal. It's all thanks to Gumshoe, but she still isn't happy about him. After for what he did yesterday. It looks like you need to show that Gumshoe really cared for her after all. Present Gumshoe's Present to make her feel better. Don't worry things will work out.
