Table of Contents

Zones

Emerald Hill Zone

A green island with big fields and beaches and other tropical islands in the distance. The boss of this Zone is comprised of a car equipped with a drill bit in front and driven by Dr. Robotnik. After seven hits, Eggman shoots the drill bit at Sonic; one more hit destroys his machine.

Chemical Plant Zone

A zone themed on a large industrial plant, producing the deadly Mega Muck compound (the strange pink water). The Boss of this zone is a goo shooter piloted by Robotnik. The platforms on the left and right keep disappearing. You will die if you fall down. Robotnik will suck up water in his machine and when full will aim the bucket at you. Robotnik is vulnerable while he is sucking up the water, however he does it over the disappearing platforms.

Aquatic Ruin Zone

An ancient ruin located in a forest valley partially submerged in water. For the boss fight two pillars rise out of the ground trapping Sonic between them. Dr. Robotnik flies above them and hammers them, causing arrows to shoot out from them. Robotnik flies too high to be hit by Sonic, you must stand on the arrows and jump from them to hit Robotnik. As the pillars rise from the ground, you can jump on them to reach Robotnik.

Casino Night Zone

A city that never sleeps, full of pinball rooms, flashing lights, and slot machines.

Slot machines

The slot machines give out different prizes depending on when the reels land. The possibilities are: Sonic, Tails, Ring, Bar, Jackpot or Robotnik.

  • 3 Jackpots: 100 rings (and an extra life for geting 100 rings)
  • 3 Sonics: 50 rings
  • 3 Tails: 30 rings
  • 3 Robotniks: -100 rings (if you have less then 100 rings then you will lose all the rings you do have, you don't die)

In addition, a Jackpot or two can also act as a wild card or wild cards, rewarding rings even though the other reel(s) are not Jackpots. One Jackpot and two icons give out the standard prize, but two Jackpots will double the standard prize for the third icon. A Bar will also give out rings depending on how many there are. Note that in this case, Jackpots only act as doublers in the case of only Jackpots and Bars, i.e., two Bars with one Jackpot is worth 40 rings, and one Bar with two Jackpots is worth 80 rings, but one Bar and one Jackpot is only worth 2 rings.

Boss

The boss Dr. Robotnik tries to kill Sonic with his neon spike-ball machine.

Hill Top Zone

This zone is covered with many moving hills, and also has tons of lava and spikes. To avoid the lava sonic will need to use hanging lines to slide across it. The boss Dr. Robotnik will be in a fire resistant submarine and uses fire to try and kill sonic.

Mystic Cave Zone

This zone is an old, dark abandoned mine.

Oil Ocean Zone

This zone is covered in oil. Due to the thickness of the oil it is possible to keep jumping in it, so as not to die.

Metropolis Zone

There are three acts in the level, this is because the artist in charge of this level, Tom Payne was also working on a second level which was removed from the game because of a lack of time.

Sky Chase Zone

In this zone Sonic stands on the wings of his plane while Tails flys it. There is only one act in this zone and no boss.

Wing Fortress Zone

At the very start of this zone the plane is shot down and you must quickly jump onto the platform of Dr. Robotniks flying fortress. As Tails was in the plane as it went down, you are on your own for the rest of the game.

Death Egg Zone

The final zone in the game. You must battle against a metal Sonic and then against Dr. Robotnik himself who is inside a giant armored battle suit. There are no rings available in this zone. After defeating the bosses Sonic will run out of the exploding Death Egg and skydive back down, and is caught by Tails' plane (unless you have managed to collect all the Chaos Emeralds; in that case Super Sonic flies alongside the plane).
