'''Sonic the Hedgehog 3''', often abbreviated and officially known in Europe as '''Sonic 3''', is a platform game in the Sonic the Hedgehog series for the Mega Drive/Genesis.

The game is closely tied to its sequel [[Sonic & Knuckles]], as the two games were originally one until time constraints and cartridge costs forced the game to be split into two interlocking parts. Combined, both games have sold over 4 million copies.

== Special Stages ==
There are seven special stages in the game, one for each Chaos Emerald you can collect. In the special stages, you must collect all the blue spheres while avoiding the red spheres. If you collect all the blue spheres you are rewarded with a Chaos Emerald. If you collect all seven Emeralds you get the ability to transform into Super Sonic.

There must be at least 1 blue sphere in the center.
