Championship Sprint track selection screen.png

Once you have inserted your coin into either of the two slots of the cabinet of Atari Games's 1986 racing arcade game, Championship Sprint, the text of "PRESS START" shall appear in blue or red, at the top-left or top-right of the screen; once you have pressed the appropriate Start Button, the game will proceed to the track selection screen that's shown above as its introductory theme starts to be heard from the Yamaha YM-2151. You will then have ten seconds to choose a track, by turning the steering wheel, then stepping on the pedal to confirm your choice - and you will receive one bonus wrench for starting upon a "medium" track, two for starting upon a "hard" track and three for starting on a "very hard" track. Once you have collected five wrenches, you will be able to choose an item for your car, before the next race; turn the steering wheel to select one, then step on the pedal to confirm your choice.

Track 1 (Easy)[edit]

Championship Sprint track 1.png

Welcome to the game. Once all cars' revving noise starts to be heard from the Yamaha YM-2151, step on the pedal to accelerate the one you have picked, and turn to the left, then turn to the right twice in succession, then turn to the left twice in succession to complete a full lap of the track; you must complete four laps of it and come in first in order to continue. 1P's score will be displayed at the top-left of the screen and 2P's at the top-right - but if there's only one player, it'll display the text "DRONE" instead of "BLUE/RED CAR", like the always-CPU-controlled yellow and green cars' "scores" (at the bottom of the screen). This track's number is also displayed at the bottom of the screen, and if you crash into a wall with enough force, your car will explode; a helicopter will then fly into view from one of the four sides of the screen and resurrect it. Once one car has completed three laps of this track, a white flag shall be flown from that lookout tower at the starting line - and, once one player has completed a fourth lap of this track, the track's ending theme will begin to be heard from the Yamaha YM-2151 as the screen fades to a shot of the "Winners' Circle", which shows the cars that came in first, second, and third on a podium (the one that came in fourth shall be wrecked, and if it was player-controlled its driver shall be trying to repair it). If a player car came in first it shall get to continue racing; however, if one came in second, third, or fourth, a second coin shall have to be inserted into the cabinet, if they want to continue racing.

Track 3 (Medium)[edit]

Championship Sprint track 3.png

Even though all the tracks are numbered, the game will not progress through them in order; once the cars' revving noise starts to be heard from the Yamaha YM-2151, step on the pedal to accelerate the one you have picked, and turn to the left three times in succession, then turn to the right three times in succession (and follow those arrows), then turn to the left a fourth time (to complete a full lap of the track); once one player has completed a fourth lap of the track, the track's ending theme will begin to be heard from the Yamaha YM-2151 as the screen fades to a shot of the "Winners' Circle", which shows the cars that came in first, second, and third on a podium (the one that came in fourth shall be wrecked, and if it was player-controlled, its driver will be trying to repair it). If a player car came in first it shall get to continue racing - however, if one came in second, third, or fourth, a second coin shall have to be inserted into the cabinet if they want to continue racing. Although the previous track had first appeared in Super Sprint, this one was created specifically.

Track 7 (Very Hard)[edit]

Championship Sprint track 7.png

Once the cars' revving noise starts to be heard from the Yamaha YM-2151, step on the pedal to accelerate the one you have chosen then turn to the left (if the first "gate" is open, you can take a shortcut), then turn to the right (if the second "gate" is opened, you can take another shortcut), then turn to the left twice more in succession, then turn to the right again, then turn to the left yet again (your view of all four cars shall get obscured at this point), then turn to the right three more times in succession, then turn to the left for a fifth time, to complete a full lap of this track; once one player has completed a fourth lap of the track, the track's ending theme will start to be heard from the Yamaha YM-2151 as the screen fades out to a shot of the "Winners' Circle" which shows the cars that came in first, second, and third on a podium (the one that came in fourth shall be wrecked, and if it was player-controlled, its driver will be trying to repair it). If a player car came in first it shall get to continue racing - however, if one came in second, third, or fourth, a second coin shall have to be inserted into the cabinet, if they want to continue racing. As with the previous track, this one happens to have been created specifically for this game.

Track 6 (Hard)[edit]

Championship Sprint track 6.png

Once the cars' revving noise starts to be heard from that Yamaha YM-2151, step on the pedal to accelerate the one you have chosen, and turn to the left three times in succession, then turn to the right twice in succession (and follow the arrows!), then turn to the left yet again, then turn to the right three more times in succession, then turn to the left for a fifth time, then turn to the right for a sixth time to complete a full lap of the track; once one player's completed a fourth lap of the track the track's ending theme will start to be heard from the Yamaha YM-2151 as the screen fades to a shot of the "Winners' Circle", that shows the cars that came in first, second, and third on a podium (the one that came in fourth will be wrecked, and if it was player-controlled its driver will be trying to repair it). If a player car came in first it shall get to continue racing - however, if one came in second, third or fourth, a second coin shall have to be inserted into the cabinet if they want to continue racing. As with the two previous tracks this one happens to have been created specifically for this game.

Track 2 (Easy)[edit]

Championship Sprint track 2.png

Once the cars' revving noise starts to be heard from that Yamaha YM-2151, step on the pedal to accelerate the one you have picked and turn to the left (if the first "gate" is opened, you can take a short cut), then turn to the left again (and follow those arrows), then turn to the right (if the second "gate" is opened, you can take another short cut) and turn to the left twice more in succession to complete a full lap of the track; once one player's completed a fourth lap of the track the track's ending theme will start to be heard from the Yamaha YM-2151 as the screen fades to a shot of the "Winners' Circle", that shows the cars that came in first, second, and third on a podium (the one that came in fourth shall be wrecked, and if it was player-controlled its driver shall be trying to repair it). If a player car had come in first, it will get to continue racing - however, if one came in second, third or fourth, a second coin shall have to be inserted into the cabinet if they wish to continue racing. As with the three previous tracks this one happens to have been created specially for this game.

Track 5 (Hard)[edit]

Championship Sprint track 5.png

Once the cars' revving noise starts to be heard from that Yamaha YM-2151, step on the pedal to accelerate the one you have picked and now turn to the left, then turn to the right, then turn to the left again, then turn to the right again (your view of all four cars shall be obscured at this point), then turn to the right once again, then turn to the left once again, then turn to the right yet again, then turn to the left twice in succession and turn to the right to complete a full lap of the track; once one car completes three laps of this track, a white flag shall get flown from that lookout tower, at the starting line. Once one player has completed a fourth lap of this track, the track's ending theme shall begin to be heard from that Yamaha YM-2151, as the screen fades to a shot of that "Winners' Circle", which shows the cars that came in first, second and third upon a podium (the one that came in fourth shall be wrecked, and if it had been player-controlled, its driver shall be trying to repair it) - and if a player car came in first, it will get to continue racing, but if one came in second, third, or fourth, a second coin shall have to be inserted if they want to continue racing. As with the first track, this one is a returning favourite from Super Sprint.

Track 8 (Very Hard)[edit]

Championship Sprint track 8.png

Once the cars' revving noise starts to be heard from that Yamaha YM-2151, step on the pedal to accelerate the one you have picked and turn to the right, then turn to the left four times in succession (and follow the arrows), then turn to the right again, then turn to the left for a fifth time, then turn to the right for a third time (if the "gate" is opened up, you can take a shortcut) to complete a full lap of the track; once one player's completed a fourth lap of the track the track ending theme will start to be heard from the Yamaha YM-2151, as the screen fades to a shot of the "Winners' Circle", which shows the cars that came in first, second, and third on a podium (the one that came in fourth shall be wrecked, and if it was player-controlled its driver shall be trying to repair it). If a player car came in first, it will get to continue racing - however, if one had come in second, third, or fourth, a second coin shall have to be inserted, into the cabinet, if they wish to continue racing. As with Tracks 3, 7, 6 and 2 (2, 3, 4 and 5), this one happens to have been created specifically for this game.

Track 4 (Medium)[edit]

Championship Sprint track 4.png

Once the cars' revving noise starts to be heard from that Yamaha YM-2151, step on the pedal to accelerate the one you have chosen and turn to the left (if the first "gate" is open you may take a shortcut), then turn to the right (and if the second "gate" is open, you may take another shortcut), then turn to the left again (if the third "gate" is open, you may take a third shortcut), then turn to the right again, then turn to the left twice in succession, to complete a full lap of the track; once one car completes three laps of the track, a white flag shall be flown from the lookout tower at the starting line. Once one player has completed a fourth lap of the track, the track's ending theme will start to be heard from that Yamaha YM-2151, as the screen fades to a shot of the "Winners' Circle", that shows the cars that came in first, second and third on a podium (the one that came in fourth will be wrecked, and if it had been player-controlled, its driver shall be trying to repair it) - and if a player car came in first, it will get to continue racing, but if one came in second, third, or fourth, another coin must be inserted if they want to continue racing. The cycle of tracks will then begin again; once either player comes in second, third, or fourth, and has a score of over 7100 points, he shall have the options of inserting another coin to continue, and entering his initials upon the game's high-score table. If he chooses to do the latter (by using the steering wheel to select the letters and stepping on the pedal to confirm them) his game shall immediately be over - but the remaining players can continue until they choose to do the same. Once the game has gone back into attract mode it will finish the Sprint series.
