Donald[edit]

Donald Land player sprite.png

You control Donald McDonald (or Ronald McDonald as he is known in the United States) throughout the game. Donald has two primary abilities: the ability to jump, and the ability to throw an unlimited supply of apple bombs at his enemies. Donald's jumping ability is good, but beginning players may find that it takes some getting used to. He will jump higher if the jump button is held down, and he will continue to jump back up if the jump button is still being pressed when he lands. In fact, Donald can jump off his own apple bombs if he times his jump properly. Donald can ride on top of most of his enemies. When doing so, the horizontal momentum of the enemy is transfered to Donald when he jumps. The vertical momentum of the enemy, however, is not.

Donald can also toss apple bombs at his enemy. These apple bombs are sticky and will attach themselves to whatever surface or enemy the hit first. If they stick to an enemy, they will move with the enemy until they explode. Most basic enemies will die with one bomb explosion. The explosions of these bombs are not harmful to Donald, although they can briefly stun him. The bombs are tossed in an arc, and the distance they travel is effected by how fast Donald is moving when he throws them.

Donald has a health meter, which is shown directly beneath your score in the upper left corner of the screen. Every time Donald is struck by the sides or bottom of an enemy, he loses one health bar. If he is struck when he has no more health bars, he will lose a life and be forced to start over from the beginning of the stage (even if you die during a boss battle!) He will also lose one life if he falls through the bottom of the screen. Collect hearts to restore one bar of health to Donald's health meter, and collect Donald faces to earn more extra lives.

Items[edit]

Item Description
Donald Land item burger.png Collect hamburgers to earn money towards the purchase of power-ups and mini games at the end of each stage. You can only collect up to 99 hamburgers at one time, so spend them at the end of the stage to make room for more in the next stage.
Donald Land item bomb.png With each new life, Donald can only toss one apple bomb at a time. However, if you collect the bomb tile, Donald will be granted the ability to throw two apple bombs on the screen at one time. Collecting any additional bombs has no effect beyond the first.
Donald Land item hearts.png Donald's health meter can be seen at the top of the screen on the left side. If Donald takes too many hits and runs out of health, he will die if he gets hit again. Collect hearts to restore one bar of health to his health meter.
Donald Land item extra.png Donald begins the game with three extra lives, but you can increase that number by collecting tiles that have Donald's face on them. Each tile increases his extra life count by one.
Donald Land item helmet.png Helmets are a rare find in Donald Land. By collecting one, they will render Donald temporarily invincible for a limited period, during which time Donald can freely run into and destroy enemies without the threat of losing health for the collision.
