Fantasy Zone stage la dune.gif

La Dune, as the name implies, is a dune filled planet where a dry wind blows. The enemies here will begin to get aggressive, so you must proceed cautiously. Unless you are an expert player, is highly recommended that you purchase a laser beam and use it to quickly knock down as many bases as you can before the laser beam runs out. It is hard to see the Bol-Bols that fall out of the bases. As a result, it's rather dangerous to fly low to the ground and beneath the bases since you risk colliding with the Bol-Bols. If you have the money, it can be advantageous to buy a Heavy Bomb and hold on to it until the boss fight, but you'll have to give up using your Twin Bombs unless you can cause a Select balloon to appear by running out of your laser beam.

Occupants[edit]

Base[edit]

The bases in La Dune are the Patatons. Compared to the two previous stages, they are found relatively low in the sky. They are easily taken out with the laser beam. The release Boruborus from their bottom hatches, which can be difficult to detect as they are dropping to the ground.

Enemies[edit]

Bol-Bol Shatboo

Bol-Bols are produced from the Pataton bases. They drop to the ground and begin to walk in the direction that the screen is scroling, occasionally jumping up into the air.

Shatobus appear in groups of four. They zigzag across the screen and chase Opa-Opa persistently until they (or you) are destroyed. Each one killed will drop a coin.

Mechafish Goro

Mechafish appear in large schools of 10, in a triangular formation. They slowly fly across the screen, and the fire bullets all at the same time. If they begin to flash be sure to get out of the way.

Fantasy Zone enemy goro.gif

Goros are strange enemies that appear on the extreme edges of both sides of the screen. The slowly move up and down and fire at Opa-Opa, and they are unaffected by the scrolling of the screen.

Clon Haname

The enemy from Plaleaf makes a return. They fly straight across the screen before making a U-turn and flying back the way they came.

The Hanames are the same as when they appeared in Tabas. They appear in a formation of four, and fly forward in a circular motion.

Boss[edit]

Fantasy Zone boss kobabichi.gif

Slightly resembling a sun with wings, the boss of La Dune is Cobabeach. He has nine turrets mounted on his left side, which will each fire a very fast beam from the top turret to the bottom in sequence before starting over again from the top. Because the laser beams are fired at regular intervals, it's relatively easy to determine when you must get out of the way to avoid getting hit. In order to defeat Cobabeach, you must shoot at and destroy all nine turrets. It is possible to take out some of the top turrets with the Twin Bomb, but you will have to rely on the Twin Shot to remove the lower turrets. However, it is possible to defeat this boss will a single well placed Heavy Bomb. If you line Opa-Opa up so that he is hovering below the boss' right eye just right, you can drop a Heavy Bomb that will fall and wipe out every single turret from top to bottom, instantly defeating the boss.
