The effects of magic items are randomised each time you play the game, so the list below can't tell you what a Brown Ring or Purple Cane does. You have to use it to find out. Once you have used an item you'll learn its powers, meaning you can see its effects (rather than ???) by pointing to any identical item in your inventory.
Rings[edit]
You use the power of Rings by wearing them, but like everything you can throw them at enemies.
Name | Effect |
---|---|
Blizzard | Damages enemies when thrown. No worn effect. |
Lightning | Damages enemies when thrown. No worn effect. |
Flame | Damages enemies when thrown. No worn effect. |
Armor Strengthening | Raises armor Strength by 3. |
Power Up | Raises attack Power by 3. |
Curse Ring | Cursed. Prevents you from healing. The curse wears off after some use. |
Dark | Surrounds you in darkness for a while. |
Food | Slows down food consumption. |
Heal | Greatly increases the rate of healing. Like all rings its effects will wear off over time, so keep at least one other ring (of any type) so you can take it off and put it back on to regain its powers. |
Scrolls[edit]
Scrolls have a permanent effect on the floor you're on, but are used up after a single cast. Some are very useful, so once you've worked out what they are hold onto them until you need them.
Name | Effect |
---|---|
Chaos | All enemies become confused, allowing you to easily defeat them. |
Search | Makes all items on the floor visible, even in rooms you can't see yet. This is useful for locating secret rooms. Swords that are hidden in the darkness but show up when you enter the room are actually Ghosts. |
Rust Proof | Protects your gear from armor-destroying attacks. |
Appraisal | Lets you identify an item. |
Sleep | Puts you to sleep for a few turns. This has no useful purpose, and if enemies are around it's dangerous. |
Armor Strengthen | Increases your armor's Strength by 1. |
Weapon Strengthen | Pick any weapon to increase its power by 1. This can also cleanse cursed weapons, thus leaving you with a very powerful weapon with no more side-effects. |
Curse Removal | Instantly dispels a curse on you. |
Teleport | Randomly teleports you somewhere else on the floor. This can be used to escape difficult situations, but since your destination is random you may end up somewhere just as difficult. |
Newspaper | No use. |
Canes[edit]
Canes hold powerful magic, but disappear after one use.
Name | Effect |
---|---|
Anti Magic | Makes enemies stop using magic on you. This lasts for the whole floor, so keep any others you find. |
Blizzard | Damages the target. |
Flame | Damages the target. |
Lightning | Damages the target. |
Kamikaze | Instantly kills the target enemy! |
Hypnosis | Puts the target to sleep, leaving it helpless. |
Slow | Slows an enemy down. |
Wooden | No effect. |
Pit | Creates a pit. If you fall through it you'll end up on the floor you just came from, except its items and enemies will have restocked. |
Potions[edit]
These affect you in various ways. You can also throw bad potions to put that effect on the enemy.
Name | Effect |
---|---|
Blinder | Surrounds you with darkness for a while. |
Power Up | Increases attack Power by 1. Drink these the moment you get them. |
Heal | Recover some HP. Save these if you can. |
Hunger | Drains food down to 1 point. Not good. |
Recover | Heals some HP. Also removes curses |
Poison | Lose some HP. |
Quicken | Increases your speed and doubles your attacks. Save these for the final boss if you can. |
Slow | Decreases your speed and slows down your attacks. |
