Athens[edit]

  1. Athinas Hotel
  2. The Parthenon
  3. Dionysus Theater
  4. Herodes Concert Hall

Skulls: Ambush

There are more helicopters this time.

You begin the act in the Athens Airport. Tiffany will greet Golgo 13 and he will ask her for a custom made M-16 rifle. She will tell you to meet her at a hotel. Then you will be deposited on the streets of Athens. Athens is composed of three sections, two of which are further divided in half. To start, proceed to the right. Before you even have a chance to deal with the first enemy agent that you come across, you'll be ambushed. This ambush will have only two agents and four helicopters. While there are more helicopters than agents, it's still advised that you take out the two agents first, since they can fire at you continuously even when you cannot see them. When you clear everyone out, you will return to the street. Make note of a set of steps that you pass along the way, and continue to the second half of the street.

In the second half, you will be attacked by three motorcyclists on your way to the Athinas Hotel at location 1. Step inside, and the concierge will have a message for you. He will explain that Tiffany is waiting for you at the Herodes Concert Hall. He also tells you that the hall is on the other side of the Parthenon, which is a clue that leads to some confusion. Back outside, return to the left and make your way past the bikers, and back to the set of steps mentioned earlier. Push Up dpad when you reach them, and you will find yourself in a new section of Athens

It's easy to miss the entrance between the bushes

In this new section, if you walk a distance to the left, the game will indicate that you are now in front of the Parthenon (location 2). This may lead you to believe that the Herodes Concert Hall must be on the left side of the Parthenon. Rather, when you arrived, there was a gap between the trees where you can push Up dpad to reach a third section of Athens. If you continue walking to the left, you will encounter dangerous female spys and bazooka toting soldiers as you make your way to the Dionysus Theater, a destination that you do not need to visit at this time.

Tiffany lost your custom weapon

Instead, go through the gap between the trees and start walking to the right. It won't take long for a second ambush to occur. This one is just like the last one, with one extra enemy agent. When you're done, continue to the right and deal with a few more agents and bikers. You'll pass some ruins and reach the concert hall. Enter inside, and you'll find Tiffany hurt and lying on the floor. She will inform you that someone stole your weapon, and ran off to Cape Sunion (actually misspelled, it should be Cape Sounion). You will suddenly appear in a new section of Greece.

Cape Sunion[edit]

Golgo 13 TSE map Greece Sounion.png Legend:
  1. Remains of Poseidon
  2. Cape coast
  3. Underwater base entrance
  4. Base bunker

Skulls: Ambush

As you begin walking to the right, you will encounter three different enemies in a row. The first is a regular agent. The next is a female spy who can use jump kicks against you in addition to squatting down and firing. Finally, there is a bazooka soldier. When shooting at these fellows, it's best to duck down. These soldiers fire bolts in three directions. The lower fireballs will still hit you, but the middle ones will sail over your head if you are squatting. Beyond the Remains of Poseidon, you'll encounter another woman and another bazooka soldier. Then drop off the steps to reach the next section.

There are subs in this new type of ambush

As you move to the right a bit, you'll hit another ambush. This one will introduce two new enemies, jets and subs. In addition to two helicopters, you must destroy three jets and one submarine. Surprisingly, the jets are a little easier to defeat than the helicopters since they don't veer off until they come closer. The sub can be difficult to locate, but if you save it for last, the game will help you find it. You can only destroy it when it is fully above the water. When you finish, continue to the right. You will see black objects on the ground which look like small craters. These are mines, and should be jumped over. You'll soon reach the water. Jump in and you'll switch to a cut scene between you and Cherry Grace. She'll tell you she saw the enemy base below the water, and gives you her scuba gear. She tells you that the hatch to the base is in the rear and looks like a dome.

Swim to the dome to enter the base

When the conversation concludes, you will now be swimming through water in scuba gear. Start swimming to the right, avoiding the enemy divers that swim alongside you. It won't take long before you get ambushed by seven divers. Take them out and continue to the right. Eventually, you will come across the base at the bottom of the water. A set of cannons along the roof will fire up to deter anyone from approaching. Do your best to avoid their fire and approach the dome on the right side of the base. Swim up to it, and you will suddenly begin Act 5. (If you skip the base and keep swimming to the right, you will reach the end and be returned to the start of the water on the left.)

You start out on the right side of the base. This interior is very much like the one in Act 3 on the way to the enemy base. Watch out for heat seeking missiles, laser defense systems, and agents riding hovering platforms. You must walk all the way to the left. If you are avoiding dangers below, press B button jump up to the top. However, if you're on the top and wish to drop down, you must hold Down dpad as you press B button. Laser systems only occupy the upper platform, so it's generally safer on the bottom. When you reach the ladder on the left, the scene will switch, and you'll meet John Brutos, the developer of the virus. He tells you that the Drek Agency wants to move their cache of the virus to a new location.

Meet this shady character in the Remains of Poseidon

When the conversation ends, you must walk all the way back to the ladder on the right. Back outside the base, you must swim to the end of the water to the right. You will return to the edge of Cap Sunion where the mines are. Your next goal is the only location available: the Remains of Poseidon. Walk back to the left, through the ambush, and to the remains. Press Up dpad when you reach them, and you'll confront a short man who claims to have your gun and a woman. Golgo-13 chases him and he arrives in front of the Herodes Concert Hall.

Meet Eve at the hotel before continuing

Now you must head back to the Athinas Hotel. Return to the left and jump up the steps to return to the right of the Parthenon. Walk a short distance to the right to return to the original section of Athens where you began Act 4. Head to the right to reach the hotel and step inside. Eve Christy will be waiting for you in a room. She tells you that Cherry has bee captured, and they think Drek's base is near Deros Island. She tells you that you should head to Dionysus Theater tomorrow, but in the mean time, she invites you to stay for the night. When you wake up, the concierge will tell you that the theater is to the left of the Parthenon.

The theater is heavily guarded

Make your way back to the steps to the left and return to the Parthenon. Fight your way to the left, passing one agent. The second section is rather dangerous, and it's easy to lose a lot of health if you're not cautious. A few female spies will attack you. When you reach the steps before the theater, a series of bazooka soldiers will be standing guard. Be careful here, you don't want to lose too much health before you reach the theater. Once inside, you won't be meeting Oz Windham as Eve said, but rather a man named Spartacus, who informs you that he's been hired to kill you. He challenges you to a gun duel against his sub-machine gun.

Shoot Spartacus at just the right moment

You'll find yourself in a hallway. After taking a few steps, you'll encounter Spartacus. He is similar to a regular first-person exploration enemy, except that he is only vulnerable to a shot at one particular moment. When he is shooting at you with his sub-machine gun, you cannot hurt him. After firing off a few rounds, he will jump in the air. He will either jump over your head and land behind you, in which case you must turn around to continue the battle, or he will simply leap to the other side of the hallway. If he leaps to the other side, point your sites to the side he is about to land on, and take your shot when his feet touch the ground, before he has a chance to shoot again. If you time it right, you will take Spartacus out with just one bullet. When you've taken him down, head down the hallway, and take the branch to the right.

Watch out for missiles from subs

You will be back in the theater, and Oz Windham will be waiting for you with the chopper. You'll hop aboard and begin another horizontal scrolling section. In addition to bombers, air mines, and jets, there will be submarines in the water firing missiles into the sky. You can't shoot the submarines, but you can sometimes shoot down the missiles. After a long stretch of flying, you will get struck by a mid-air ambush. The targets will be one sub, two helicopters, and three jets. In addition, there is a jet way off in the distance, that you will see flying off the top of the screen. When you return to the side-scrolling, you will continue a while longer before a hidden bomb explodes inside your helicopter, causing Golgo-13 to drop into the water below.
