Legacy of Lunatic Kingdom (東方紺珠伝 Touhou Kanjuden?, Eastern Ultramarine Orb Tale) is a vertical-scrolling shooter and the fifteenth official installment of the Touhou series. It is unique in the series due to its unusual difficulty and is the only game to feature the Pointdevice Mode, a mode using a chapter checkpoint system instead of lives, which allows the player to restart from the last checkpoint with no limits.
Gensoukyou is being invaded by the Lunarians who seek to escape the moon. The Lunar Capital itself is under the control of a divine spirit with a grudge against its inhabitants, and so the Lunarians are trying to purify Gensoukyou to make it a suitable replacement for their own home. This purification is harmful to the earth, so the protagonists must prevent it.
In this game, four playable characters are available:
- Reimu Hakurei, the Mysterious Flying Shrine Maiden.
- Marisa Kirisame, the Ordinary Magician.
- Sanae Kochiya, the Mountain-Dwelling Living God of Miracles.
- Reisen Udongein Inaba, the Moon Rabbit on Earth, returning from Imperishable Night.
