Shiny Pokémon are different colored Pokémon, the chance of getting them is small though, being 1 in 8192. when you reach the lake of rage, you will battle a shiny {{bp|Gyarados}}, which is red rather than its original blue, for example. Their appearance in the game is nought more than for fun, and people usually see one shiny in the wild per cartridge, so unless you're facing a stationary Pokémon, don't expect to find a shiny varsion of it, and even to get a shiny from a stationary pokémon, the time can range from a few minutes to a few months. There is one exception, in Crystal, you will get an egg from the Day Care Centre, it will be a baby form of a Pokémon ({{bp|Pichu}}, {{bp|Smoochum}}, {{bp|Cleffa}}, {{bp|Tyrogue}}, {{bp|Iglybuff}} and {{bp|Magby}}) and it has 1/8 chance of being shiny
Shiny Pokémon are different colored Pokémon, the chance of getting them is small though, being 1 in 8192. when you reach the lake of rage, you will battle a shiny {{bp|Gyarados}}, which is red rather than its original blue, for example. Their appearance in the game DOES have an effect on stats, but only in GSC. In order to make Pokemon retain shininess when traded to GRBY and back to GSC, it was made to rely on IVs. People usually see one shiny in the wild per cartridge, so unless you're facing a stationary Pokémon, don't expect to find a shiny varsion of it, and even to get a shiny from a stationary pokémon, the time can range from a few minutes to a few months. There are two exceptions, in Crystal, you will get an egg from the Day Care Centre, it will be a baby form of a Pokémon ({{bp|Pichu}}, {{bp|Smoochum}}, {{bp|Cleffa}}, {{bp|Tyrogue}}, {{bp|Iglybuff}} and {{bp|Magby}}) and it has 1/8 chance of being shiny. In GSC, due to shininess depending on IVs and Pokemon inheriting IV's from parents, an egg bred from two shinies has a 1/64 chance of being shiny
