WiiWare is a digital download service for the Wii, similar to the Virtual Console service but offering newly programmed games rather than emulated classics. The purpose of WiiWare is to allow publishers to release games without the added overhead of retail production, similar to Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network.
