One of the defining aspects of Gunstar Heroes is the ability to combine two of the four starting weapons into better weapons.

- Force — Rapidly fires a stream of bullets.
- Lighting — Fires a laser that penetrates enemies and walls.
- Chaser — Fires bullets that home in on an enemy.
- Fire — Fires a short-ranged, but powerful, stream of fire.
