Character class triangles help the player to understand the possible choices of characters in any role-playing game. They are especially useful when a video game employs unusual class names.

Examples
(1983-88) Ultima 3: Exodus
Character class triangles (upwards):
  • Top: characters with limited magic powers;
  • Bottom: characters with great magic powers;
  • Left: characters with healing magic ("white");
  • Right: characters with offensive magic ("black").
(1985-90) Ultima 4: Quest of the Avatar
Inverted character class triangles
In some role-playing games there is no distinction between "white/healing" magic and "black/offensive" magic, therefore a slightly different approach can be more useful.
  • Top: characters with limited magic powers;
  • Bottom: characters with great magic powers;
  • Left: characters with great strength;
  • Right: characters with great dexterity.
