This page should be merged. It has been suggested that Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire/Breeding be merged into this page.

You may discuss this on the page's talk page.

To breed Pokémon, you leave two Pokémon in the Daycare centre on the fourth of the Sevi Isles. If you deposit two Pokémon, there is a possibility that that they may leave an egg, depending on the circumstances.

  1. Both Pokémon must be in the same Egg group
  2. There must be one male and one female
  3. The Pokémon must be given enough time to breed

The Ditto Rule

The one Pokémon that ignores this rule is Ditto. Any Pokémon not in the unbreedable group can breed with a Ditto. In Generation 3, the egg will hatch to a Lv 5 of the Pokémon other than Ditto. In Generation 4, the egg will hatch into a Lv 1 Pokémon.

The Nido Rule

If a Nidoqueen is breeding, and follows all the rules, there's is a 50% chance that the egg will hatch as a male Nidoran, and a 50% chance as a Nidoran that is female.

This also works for

Other than the Ditto rule and Nido rule, the egg will always be the first form of the female Pokémon that's breeding, and if allowed, it will be either male or female.

Incense Rule

If a Pokémon holds an incense when breeding, then you will get its baby form. There are quite a few Pokémon that can do this, including:

Inherited/Egg moves

These are moves that a certain Pokémon wouldn't normally learned, that can be inherited or passed on when breed with a Pokémon with that specific move. Take Pikachu for example. It cannot ordinarily learn the move Charge, but when breed with a Pokémon that knows that move, the move is then passed on to the resulting Pichu. Any TM's that a Pokémon knows while breeding are automatically passed on to the offspring, that is, if the offspring is able to learn that specific TM. Also, if both parents know the same move, that move is automatically passed down to their young.

Egg groups

All Pokémon belong to a group, but a particular Pokémon may be in more than one group. Two Pokémon can only breed if they are in the same egg group. Here's the list:

  • Dragon
  • Fairy-like
  • Field
  • Flying
  • Genderless
  • Human-like
  • Indeterminate
  • Insect
  • Grass
  • Mineral/ Rock
  • Monster
  • Unbreedable
  • Water a
  • Water b
  • Water c

Pokémon fall this way into the groups:

Bird Dragon Fairy Field Genderless
Grass Human-Like Indeterminate Insect Mineral/Rock
Monster Unbreedable Water A Water B Water C
