Breeding Basics

To start you need a female and male pokemon that are in the same egg group (see Egg Groups). Then travel to the Pokemon Daycare on Route 117. Go inside and talk to the lady at the counter. And then give her the selected pokemon. To check if they are compatable talk to the man outside he will respond to one of the following things that will cause you to have an egg or not:

  • They seem to get along well 70%
  • They seem to get along 50%
  • They don't seem to like each other 20%
  • They prefer to play with other POKeMON 0%

After this is said start walking and after a certain number of steps if the conditions are right an egg will be produced. And the resulting POKeMON should be in the form of the lowest evolution of the female. But there are some exceptions to this:

  • A Nidoran F's egg could result in a Nidoran M or a Nidoran F
  • An Illumise's egg could be an Illumise or a Volbeat
  • A Azuremarill or Marill egg will usually be a Marill
  • A Wobbuffet's egg will usually be a Wobbuffet

Item Effects On Eggs

When breeding a female Wobbuffet or Azuremarill (or Marill) they will end up the same POKeMON normally. But a Wobbuffet with a Lax Incense (see items) will create a Wynaut. And a Azuremarill or Marill with a Sea Incense will create a Azurill. So items can have an effect on the POKeMON in the egg. Some POKeMON change their Inherentence (see Inheretence) such as a PIkachu holding a Light Ball will get a Pichu that knows Volt Tackle. Sometimes they have effects on natures, for example a Ditto and a Parent holding an Everstone has a 50% chance of getting the same nature as the Parent.
