Not a sidequest[edit]
While there technically would be ways to skip this quest, I don't think it should be considered optional. I'm not sure if the figurine would work without ULU-MULU, but probably not. The winch in orc town will be jammed, Ur-Shak won't be there to explain the figure and orc teleport stuff to you and if you ignore all that, transform into bloodfly, fly into orc town (bonus: orcs don't attack bloodflies, no need for any ULU-MULU there!), fly over the gate (because the winch is jammed) and get the orc teleport scroll, you'll find that.. it doesn't actually work. Sure you could bloodfly through the hidden small opening on the right/top of the gate (as used by speedrunners, probably a design/developer oversight) that goes to the sleeper temple, but that's not normal. Also, you HAVE to do this to trigger chapter 5. While chapter triggers are not technically needed to complete the game, you're obviously not supposed to be skipping them.
