Category:Pages now merged into other pages

Sorry I'm making such a mess on your talk page >.>. What's supposed to be done with those? On wikipedia they keep all their redirects, no matter how useless. But here useless redirects are deleted. Merging histories (i'm assuming like the transwiki process) would make a mess, but I would assume it has to be done. -- Prod 16:47, 17 October 2006 (CDT)

Well, the GFDL is satisfied when the authors are specified and a link to a transparent version is provided. On wikis it is usually held that a backlink is sufficient; the source later disappearing isn't an issue as it was handled correctly at the time. You could merge the revisions, yes, but what I usually do is simply put "merged from (some page)" in the edit summary. That ties a transparent source link to the page, thus the GFDL is satisfied. Question about merging / deletion

Hi, thanks for the hint with the merged / now merged templates. I understand that the merged flac comes into the talk page. Also the now merged flag ? and should i put a delete flag into the merged now page ? or into the talk page ?--Horstjens 12:00, 27 October 2006 (CDT)

ESRB

Main Page Links

Oh, I'll talk to him then. It's just that they are incrdibley uncessary and look stupid. The main page is the link left to the Table of Contents. I also don't agree with placing the tables of contents on the front page, and think that only the Indroduction, Infobox and External Links should be on the "Main page". I'll bring this up then. Nah, not the ToC, I meant something like this, http://strategywiki.org/wiki/Feel_the_Magic:_XY/XX Where all the ToC and Walkthrough is on one page. It doesn't look as good, not as neat and there would be no point in havign the actual ToC bar if the links where all on the main page.

This has been discussed before, and the verdict was that the ToC in the Template:Tl is not visible enough for the front page, where people want to get somewhere quickly. Having the ToC on the front page eliminates the time spent finding the link to display the ToC in the Template:Tl, click it, then find the page for which you are looking on the ToC. --DrBob (Talk) 12:55, 13 November 2006 (CST)

Just to make sure we're on the same footing: you think the tables of contents on the main page should be removed because you can access the table of contents through the "show" link on the Template:Tl, yes? The "show" link may be obvious to you, but it might not be obvious to a lot of other people, and it's a fairly small target (as things go) for people to click. A table of contents on the main page is a lot more obvious, and more book-like (which is basically what we're aiming for with these sub-paged guides). The table of contents accessible through the "show" link is more of a courtesy. --DrBob (Talk) 16:30, 13 November 2006 (CST)

It means that the ToC is easily visible to anybody (many guests may not know that there is a ToC hidden at the top of the page), and having it on the main page means that there's only one click from the main page to get you anywhere in the guide, rather than two (clicking on the ToC at the top, then where you want to go). For key navigation, this is important, as it makes things a lot faster. Besides, having a ToC on the front page of a guide fills it up, and gives a good at-a-glance indication of how well the guide is progressing. --DrBob (Talk) 00:22, 15 November 2006 (CST)

It's probably not all that necessary for SW Main Page.gif, but I included the user name deliberately, as I will on other screenshots for the StrategyWiki:Guide. The username I included is simply an IP address, and it is fake, as can be noted by the prefix of 278. which cannot occur in IPv4. I wanted to have something in that area, because I will reference it when talking about the user controls.

The inclusion of the Firefox controls was deliberate as well, though I'm not a stickler about that one. It is the only image I planned to include browser controls on, just because it is obvious that this is a webpage. So, I use the mini controls used when switching to Full Screen, which lacks the actual browser name.
