From Quake II, PC version, a heavy door that blocks your way in the Detention Center level requires the Blue Key to open. You can come down the steps to face the Gladiator that guards it directly, but it's more fun to sneak up behind him. If he (or you) presses the alarm button, it will summon three Flyers.
